Chapter 404 Who just pushed me?

"Human experimentation?"

Professor Harry's words gave President Biden quite a shock, his face filled with surprise.

In his conventional understanding, conducting experiments on humans was an act that violated basic human ethics.

Especially given that their mastery of the related technology was far from mature, doing so was equivalent to trading innocent lives for illusory technological breakthroughs—that was no exaggeration.

President Biden frowned, falling into deep thought. A moment later, he looked up at Professor Harry, his gaze filled with scrutiny as he asked:

"How dangerous is it?"

Professor Harry lowered his head slightly, avoiding President Biden's sharp gaze, and said truthfully:

"The level of danger is currently unknown, as this is an unprecedented exploration."

"But what is certain is that those who participate in the experiment are very likely to lose their lives."

"However, once successful, we might be able to create superior human warriors. By then, we will have more confidence in fighting the monsters."

"I personally feel that it is well worth taking this risk."

President Biden fell into silence again. He slowly paced to the window and looked out at the northern land already occupied by monsters, his eyes full of worry and helplessness.

After a long while, he said with a somewhat listless expression:

"Have the Security Bureau cooperate with you. Be sure to do it discreetly, and try to select some criminals and... people who are of no use to our country."

When he spoke the last few words, President Biden's voice was significantly lower, as if he were convincing himself, or perhaps compromising with the cruel reality of the present.

Upon hearing this, a smile bloomed on Professor Harry's face. That smile contained both the excitement of being about to flex his muscles and a touch of sinister intent:

"Very well, my dear President Biden. I assure you, your decision today is absolutely wise, and in the future, you will certainly be proud of the choice you made today."

Having said that, Professor Harry turned and left impatiently, eager to return and arrange the hair-raising experimental matters.

President Biden stood in place, watching Professor Harry's retreating back, lost in thought, his eyes filled with a bit of confusion and struggle.

The Secretary of State said softly from the side:

"I hope he can really create a powerful new human. Otherwise, I don't even know if we have a future left."

The tone was full of helplessness and despair.

President Biden seemed to be awakened from his deep thought by the Secretary of State's words!

He raised his head slightly, a glimmer of hope reigniting in his eyes, and said firmly:

"We do! We absolutely will!"

The experiment began in full swing.

In a small town near the Laboratory, the situation changed overnight. The originally lively and warm town became deserted, like an abandoned ghost town, lifeless.

Thousands of people were secretly taken into the basement of the Laboratory without their knowledge.

Soldiers passing by the Laboratory could hear muffled explosions from the seemingly calm building every day.

There were also faint, hair-raising screams.

The sentry soldiers were full of surprise and couldn't help but say to their companions:

"Do you know what's going on in there?"

"Are they researching some new weapon?"

"Why do I hear strange noises like explosions every day, and it seems there are screams too? This is too weird."

Another soldier seemed quite calm and shrugged indifferently:

"Maybe they really are developing a new weapon. You know our current situation; the monsters in the north might counterattack us at any time. If they are researching new weapons, at least it gives us some hope."

"I fall asleep listening to those explosions every day, and it's quite reassuring!"

This young soldier named David was just saying this when suddenly a hurried voice rang out:

"David! Rocco! Emergency assembly! The Captain wants us to assemble!"

David and his companion named Rocco hurriedly tidied their uniforms and trotted over.

On the parade ground, many new recruits like David had already gathered. They lined up neatly, their eyes fixed on the burly Captain in front, and the Laboratory researcher standing beside the Captain, who looked unfathomable.

The researcher cleared his throat and said loudly:

"We need a brave soldier to participate in an experiment that could greatly enhance our Eagle Nation's combat effectiveness. Which warrior wants to participate?"

Everyone looked at each other. After a brief silence, they stepped forward one after another, their eyes filled with determination and longing.

"Let me do it, I've been waiting for this day for a long time!"

"Let me do it instead, I don't want to go on living so aimlessly!"

"Me, me, me, I want to participate too, maybe I can make a great contribution to the country!"

Watching the enthusiastic soldiers, the researcher nodded with satisfaction, a barely perceptible smile appearing on his face: "As expected of our Eagle Nation's warriors, all of you are good; no cowards here!"

The Captain stood to the side and secretly sneered, thinking to himself: 'Pure nonsense!'

If others don't know, don't I know?

The reason these people are so active is actually because they don't want to stay in the army and endure the immense pressure of potential monster attacks every day.

Compared to here, the Laboratory is so much better; there's no need to worry about monster attacks at all. Even if monsters really came, there would still be soldiers on the front lines holding them off.

If it weren't for my duty, I, this Captain, would want to participate in this experiment myself!

The researcher then looked at the Captain and asked:

"Can I take them all with me as our experimental subjects?"

The soldiers looked at the Captain with fiery eyes, and the latter smiled calmly and said:

"Of course, no problem. However, if monsters come to attack us, you must be prepared to have no one to fight back for you."

Upon hearing this, the soldiers immediately deflated like punctured balls, and the enthusiasm on their faces vanished without a trace.

The researcher grinned, a smile that made people shudder:

"I understand what you mean. Then, I will just pick one person for now."

As he spoke, he unhurriedly reached his hand into his pocket!

The next second, a grenade appeared in his hand!

He pulled the pin without hesitation and threw it towards the soldiers.

The soldiers watched the grenade flying towards them, instantly terrified out of their wits. They subconsciously screamed, and then scattered like frightened birds and beasts, the entire parade ground instantly becoming a mess.

Just in this chaos, a figure suddenly darted out like an arrow from a bow and threw himself directly onto the grenade without hesitation. Judging by his posture, it seemed he wanted to use his body to cover the grenade and minimize the harm caused by the explosion to others.

And the person who made this astonishing move was none other than David, the seemingly slender new recruit.

At this moment, David's face was as pale as paper, and bean-sized sweat beads kept rolling down his forehead. He couldn't help but curse angrily in his heart: "Fuck! Which son of a bitch pushed me just now!"

"Even as a ghost, I won't let..."
