152: Demon Cat Woman
Xie Ning sprinted all the way, flying past dozens of laboratories in just a few minutes.
The more he learned about this place, the more alarmed Xie Ning felt.
It was hard to imagine that such a massive experimental base existed near a small mountain village.
As they were running, Xie Ning and Bai Ya suddenly braked hard, their claws skidding as they stared warily at the woman who appeared ahead.
"It seems two little mice really did run in here."
The newcomer was the female guard captain. She took two steps forward with an enchanting, feline gait. Following beside her was a large cat with a white head and a black body, about two meters long, its amber eyes fixed on Xie Ning.
At the same time, four Silver Rank guards appeared at both the front and back of the corridor.
Xie Ning swallowed hard.
It wasn't that he was attracted by the woman's sexiness, but rather an involuntary reaction to the onset of a crisis.
He didn't look at the Silver Rank guards appearing around him, but instead stared intently at the woman and the cat at her feet.
Without a doubt, this woman was another guard captain within the base. Although her demeanor didn't suggest she was a practitioner of Ancient Martial Arts, the shadow at her feet would occasionally shift into a feline shape.
Silver Rank 3, Cat Wind; it could enter a person's shadow, granting them agility as nimble as a cat.
But that wasn't the most terrifying part. The large cat locked onto Xie Ning, the Soul Hunting Dread Cat, was the truly horrific fellow.
A Gold Level 3 Soul Hunting Dread Cat has medium speed but agile reactions. If its claws strike a person, they produce a pain akin to the Soul being torn apart. Therefore, if given a choice, most Demon Tamers are unwilling to face it.
"Don't be nervous, little mouse, I won't eat you." The female guard captain licked her lips, looking at Xie Ning with a playful expression.
Xie Ning grinned and said, "Sorry, I got lost. If you don't mind, could you open the door?"
"That would be difficult. In all my years as Demon Cat carrying out missions, I've never let a mouse slip away before my eyes." The woman calling herself Demon Cat licked her gradually lengthening fingernails.
"Then there's nothing to talk about." Xie Ning shrugged. The next second, he drew his sword and pulled back, rushing toward the Silver Rank guards behind him. Bai Ya followed closely, gray flames whistling as they surged toward the Demon Tamers Beast summoned by another Silver Rank guard.
"Ignorant." The Soul Hunting Dread Cat at the Demon Cat Woman's feet let out a sharp cry and shot out like a bolt, its sharp claws lunging for Xie Ning.
Clang!
The space vibrated as Little Mantis appeared out of thin air. Sharp claws met silver claws in a powerful clash. Little Mantis was sent flying by the Soul Hunting Dread Cat, but the Soul Hunting Dread Cat was also forced back to its original position by the force of the Vibration Strike.
The Demon Cat Woman was slightly surprised and said, "No wonder you dare to break into this cat's nest; you have some skill. Unfortunately, it's not enough!"
The Soul Hunting Dread Cat charged at Little Mantis again.
Little Mantis was not to be outdone. Facing a Soul Hunting Dread Cat two major Ranks higher than itself, it didn't hold back at all. Its Void Rend and Sound Kill Talents were fully activated, its speed becoming so fast it was hard to see with the naked eye. Each passing attack brought a wave of spatial distortion. Some elemental attacks that were affected even turned around, smashing into the laboratories on the left and right.
For a time, alarms rang out incessantly.
Bang bang bang bang—
The battle between the two beasts left only a series of dense sounds; no one could see clearly how the fight was progressing.
The Demon Cat Woman looked at the strange Demon Tamers Beast fighting the Soul Hunting Dread Cat to a standstill, then looked at Xie Ning, who was fighting a group of two against many—facing four Silver Rank Demon Tamers and their beasts—and had not yet been defeated. Her expression finally turned serious.
"Since you've come, then stay here."
The Demon Cat Woman suddenly appeared behind Xie Ning, her claw stabbing toward the Lute Bone under his armpit.
Boom!
The Flame Ring suddenly erupted, forcing back the Demon Cat Woman and the four other attacking beasts. Xie Ning leaned back and stabbed upward, using a divine sliding tackle technique to slice open the belly of a Blazing Flame Tiger that had lunged and missed.
"Stay your ass!"
Xie Ning glared at her and wiped his ribs, his hand coming away covered in blood.
Although the Flame Ring had activated, it was ultimately a split second too slow. His ribs had been pierced by the Demon Cat Woman, nearly puncturing his Lute Bone.
Bai Ya, on the other hand, took advantage of Xie Ning knocking these people back. A long-accumulated surge of gray flames whistled past, gushing for dozens of meters. When the flames subsided, Bai Ya was nowhere to be seen.
"It seems your Demon Tamers Beast has fled." The Demon Cat Woman licked the blood off her nails and teased before rushing forward. Her body was extremely supple as she dodged Xie Ning's swinging sword, scratching his back and leaving five bloody gashes.
She then dodged a punch from Xie Ning, her boneless-looking body brushing against his arm. Her claws pulled out several long, thin wounds that stretched across half his body. She slid past Xie Ning and landed on his back, her sharp claws suddenly extending.
Firelight emerged from Xie Ning's body as he was about to teleport away, but unexpectedly, he felt a heat in his ear and his body went numb, leaving him unable to move.
"I forgot to tell you, a cat's tongue can also be a weapon." The Demon Cat Woman's voice rang in his ear, killing intent surging in her eyes as her claws violently stabbed toward the back of Xie Ning's head.
Bang!
Before her attack could land, she was kicked away by Little Mantis. The next second, the Soul Hunting Dread Cat charged again, and the two beasts clashed once more.
From its brief appearance just now, it was clear that Little Mantis had no injuries, but its energy fluctuations were extremely unstable. Obviously, maintaining two Talents for a long time was a significant drain on it.
"What a bizarre Demon Tamers Beast. Unfortunately, once the human is dead, you'll have to die too." As the Demon Cat Woman spoke, she rushed at Xie Ning again. The other four Silver Rank Demon Tamers and several Silver and Bronze Rank beasts also pounced.
Boom!
Just as they were about to hit, firelight exploded from Xie Ning. Thick golden flames swept over the group of people and beasts, blocking their vision and perception.
Especially for the Demon Cat Woman, her cat eyes gave her stronger light-gathering capabilities. While this enhanced her vision, it also made her more fearful of light that was too intense. The golden-yellow flames turned the entire space into a brilliant yellow, causing her to completely lose her ability to perceive her surroundings.
"It's only polite to return the favor!"
Xie Ning's voice rang out. The Demon Cat Woman only felt two punches to her abdomen. She swung her hands forward as if tearing through something, then felt a pain in her left chest. She lost her balance and was slammed hard onto the ground with a 'thud.' Following that were several more loud bangs, along with the sounds of beasts and people fighting and screaming.
When the flames subsided, Xie Ning's figure was long gone. Of the five people and twelve beasts that had just attacked Xie Ning, six were dead and eight were injured. Two of the beasts had died because their Demon Tamers had died.
The only ones left alive on the scene were the Demon Cat Woman and two Silver Rank guards.
"That damned bastard! I'm going to kill you!" The Demon Cat Woman looked at the carnage on the ground, clutched her shattered chest armor, and sat up. She spat out two mouthfuls of blood, her face full of shame and indignation, the fire in her eyes looking as if she wanted to swallow Xie Ning alive.
A dignified Gold-rank Demon Tamer, plus four Silver Rank Demon Tamers, surrounding a Bronze Rank mouse—not only were they injured, but she had even been groped by the opponent. This was simply a great humiliation in the Demon Cat Woman's professional career.
What's more, the opponent had escaped.
At the same time, the sounds of battle from above also caught her attention.
She saw Little Mantis, which had been fighting the Soul Hunting Dread Cat above, suddenly pull away and fly into the distance. It slashed as it flew, launching attacks at those laboratories, occasionally rushing inside and triggering a series of screams.
Rumble!
Beep— Beep— Beep—
Series of explosions, accompanied by even more piercing alarms, echoed throughout the entire experimental base.
"Go! Stop it quickly!"
The Demon Cat Woman was so angry her face turned green.
