Chapter 22 I Swear in the Name of the Saintess!
Dewin took out a key and opened the door.
The room was simply furnished.
A wooden table, two bouquets of fresh flowers, and a few simple chairs.
The two of them sat down.
Dewin looked at Xia Xier and got straight to the point:
"Regarding Xu Ruo, the Saintess must know him very well, right?"
Dewin's question was very simple, but for some reason, Xia Xier heard a hint of something unusual in it!
"Very well," Xia Xier answered calmly.
Dewin looked straight at Xia Xier, her tone serious:
"As for his background, and his past dozen years or so..."
"The Saintess knows all of that too?"
Xia Xier nodded gently without hesitation.
Dewin let out a long sigh and leaned back slightly against the chair.
Her gaze became distant, as if recalling some unpleasant memory—
"He shouldn't be just any ordinary person, right?"
"Otherwise..."
"It wouldn't have caused you to use Holy Magic to alter the memories of everyone in the Holy Kingdom, would it?"
Xia Xier: "!!!"
This news made Xia Xier's body tense up instantly!
A flash of surprise crossed her beautiful face!
Dewin...
Had actually noticed the anomaly in Xu Ruo's identity?!
Xia Xier was silent for a moment.
But even if it was only for a moment, and even if she revealed her usual bright smile the very next second...
This momentary slip could not be ignored!
"You are joking, Headmistress. Xu Ruo is just an ordinary person."
"He doesn't even have magic power in his body; he is just an ordinary person without any blessings."
"As for Holy Magic..."
"You really think too highly of me, Headmistress."
"To change the memories of everyone in the Holy Kingdom..."
"The amount of magic power required would be an astronomical figure!"
"I don't have that kind of ability."
Xia Xier smiled calmly, speaking clearly, her gaze not wavering at all.
Every word was flawless!
This seemingly ordinary exchange was actually a confrontation, with each side advancing and retreating!
Dewin stared at Xia Xier, seeing her calm expression.
In those clear and determined eyes, there was no guilt, nor any flickering...
For a moment, Dewin herself was stunned.
A moment later, she let out a long sigh—
"Saintess, surely you don't need to lie to me too, do you?"
"The Saintess Power, along with the prayer magic possessed by each of the Seven Guardians of the Holy Kingdom, are all gifts from the Goddess."
"You can use Holy Magic to change the memories of everyone in the Holy Kingdom."
"But you cannot change the memories of the Seven Guardians..."
As she spoke, Dewin took two or three magic stones from her bosom.
On the magic stones, there was still some residual prayer magic.
Clearly, Dewin had used these magic stones not long ago; it seemed as if she had been in contact with someone.
Dewin's gaze slowly shifted from the magic stones to Xia Xier, and her eyes held a bit more helplessness—
"Just a moment ago, Father Hyde asked me who this person named Xu Ruo is."
"How is it that overnight, everyone in the Holy Kingdom knows he is your childhood sweetheart..."
"And even the Seven Guardians know about the relationship between you two?"
Xia Xier was silent.
She slowly stood up and bowed to Dewin:
"I'm sorry, Headmistress."
"I hid it from you."
"But... I did not mean to deceive the Guardians."
"Xu Ruo is indeed my childhood sweetheart, but..."
"He was my childhood sweetheart in my previous life..."
Xia Xier straightened up, looked straight at Dewin, her tone calm, without any evasion.
Every word was spoken without any concealment!
"The bond between him and me was destined long ago."
"This matter... even the Goddess knows!"
"Headmistress, you should believe in the Goddess."
Dewin listened quietly to Xia Xier's explanation.
There was no surprise or anger on her face.
It was just that the helplessness in her eyes became even more obvious!
"Saintess..."
Dewin sighed, and after a few seconds of silence, she got straight to the point:
"Is this how you lie to people?"
"Do you mean to say you still have memories of your previous life?"
To Dewin's surprise, upon hearing this, Xia Xier revealed a look of astonishment—
"Headmistress, how did you know I retained the memories of my previous life?"
Sometimes, Dewin really felt...
Was the adorable blonde girl before her playing her for a fool?
She didn't think that such an obvious lie...
Would be believed by her, right?
How could such an unprecedented thing happen?
However, looking at the sincere blonde girl in front of her...
Dewin couldn't help it in the end, and a wry expression appeared on her face.
Sighing lightly again, full of helplessness:
"Xier, you don't think I'd believe this nonsense, do you?"
She thought that by saying this, Xia Xier would tell the truth and reveal the origin of Xu Ruo.
But what Xia Xier did next completely shocked Dewin!
Xia Xier pointed three fingers to the sky, her clear eyes flashing with a determined gaze, and she swore:
"I, Xia Xier, swear in the name of the Saintess..."
This time, before Xia Xier could continue, a panicked Dewin quickly reached out and covered Xia Xier's mouth—
"Are you crazy?"
"Do you know what the consequences are if you swear in the name of the Saintess and tell a lie?"
"At that point, not even the Goddess could save you..."
Dewin stopped Xia Xier's action in a flurry.
However...
Even so, the light in Xia Xier's eyes had not wavered in the slightest!
She looked at Xia Xier with a complicated gaze, and finally squeezed a few words through her teeth—
"I believe you, I believe you, is that enough?"
Xia Xier's bright eyes slowly returned to their clarity.
She smiled at Dewin and nodded gently.
Dewin sighed deeply again, completely helpless.
"Sigh... You..."
Dewin simply couldn't do anything about Xia Xier.
But since Xia Xier had said so, she didn't continue to press for information about Xu Ruo.
Some things are best left at that.
But Xia Xier didn't think so; rather than letting Dewin guess wildly like this...
It would be better to...
Tell her part of the truth!
Having made up her mind, Xia Xier finally revealed that unknown past—
"Actually, it happened like this..."
"That was the beginning of how he and I met..."
