4: Chapter 4 Thunder Startles the Heart, Rain Reveals a Beauty
Looking at his silly expression, Shen Muyan felt her heart melt.
When is a boy most attractive?
It's when he's being serious, without a hint of pretense.
At this moment, Tang Luochuan's expression was exactly that, earnestly waiting for her reply.
"Hmm~ Unless you have some serious illness, you can get a leave slip! But you have to find a teacher," Shen Muyan replied, unable to help but size him up.
Tang Luochuan frowned and remained silent.
Seeing him like this, Shen Muyan was surprised: "You really don't want to participate?"
"What else?"
"I thought you were joking. Stop thinking about that; we're having a class meeting later! As your senior in sophomore year and a member of the Student Union, I'll be leading it. Don't be late!"
Shen Muyan spoke playfully, wondering herself why getting along with this boy felt so easy.
"Boom!"
Suddenly! A loud noise erupted outside the cafeteria, and a bolt of lightning streaked across the sky.
Everyone jumped at the sound of the thunder. It had been a clear, sunny day, but who knew it would suddenly hit like this at night.
"Holy crap!" Tang Luochuan stood up abruptly, his eyes wide. "Heaven is helping me!"
Shen Muyan was startled by his reaction: "Why are you so jumpy..."
Tang Luochuan had already pulled out his phone, his fingers sliding across the screen rapidly, muttering: "Let me see... let me see..."
"Next 10 days... thunderstorms... localized heavy rain..." His voice grew more and more excited, and finally, he laughed out loud: "Hahaha! Heaven wants to end Military Training, it's not my fault!"
"Are you crazy?" A senior beside him couldn't help but retort. "Why are you happy about the rain?"
Tang Luochuan put away his phone, looking mysterious: "Senior, you don't know. This Shanghai Jiao Tong University has always had the fine tradition of 'suspending training on rainy days'."
"Huh?" Shen Muyan was stunned for a moment. "Does it?"
"It absolutely does!" Tang Luochuan said with a straight face, spouting nonsense. "I just Baidu-ed it. During last year's freshman Military Training, it rained for three days, and they suspended it for three days!"
Shen Muyan: "...Oh right, I forgot!"
"And," Tang Luochuan lowered his voice, acting mysterious, "Haven't you noticed? The school's sports field has a terrible drainage system! Whenever it rains, it floods, just like a swimming pool!"
Several girls looked at each other.
"It seems... that might be the case?" a senior said hesitantly.
"So!" Tang Luochuan slapped the table, making the chopsticks jump. "If this rain continues for ten days, I can slack off for ten days!"
Shen Muyan looked at his behavior, both annoyed and amused: "You really don't want to participate in Military Training that much?"
"Senior, do you know how comfortable it is to lie down every day... oh wait, I mean, do you know how comfortable it is to lie down every day?" Tang Luochuan almost slipped up and quickly corrected himself. "I mean, do you know how meaningful it is to lie down every day... and think about life?"
"Did you just say one hundred million?" Shen Muyan narrowed her eyes.
"You misheard. It's 'meaning', the meaning of life."
Outside the window, thunder rolled, and raindrops began to pelt down with a patter.
Tang Luochuan looked at the rain curtain outside the window, the corners of his mouth curling up wildly.
This rain came at the perfect damn time!
The group prepared to leave. As the cafeteria door opened, a gust of cold wind blew in.
"Hiss, it's a bit cold!" Shen Muyan couldn't help but shiver. She was still wearing the same white short-sleeved shirt from the daytime.
Seeing this, Tang Luochuan quickly said: "Wait!"
He took a few quick steps, pressed his car key, and took a newly bought garment directly from the trunk.
A men's recycled nylon short jacket, bought at a Prada store, costing 21,800 yuan.
"Here, take this! Put it on. It's new and I haven't worn it yet!" Tang Luochuan handled the situation with excellent tact, and fortunately, he had new clothes.
Looking at the tag, Shen Muyan was stunned for a moment, then shook her head: "No need! You haven't even worn it yet, how could I be so embarrassed??"
"It's fine, just wear it! Or would you rather go back to the Dormitory to get one?"
The girls' Dormitory wasn't close. After thinking for a moment, and considering that it was a new garment, Shen Muyan let go of any concerns about the propriety of a man and a woman.
"Thanks a lot. I'll return it after I'm done."
"You're welcome!"
Just as mentioned during the day, the cafeteria was very close to the teaching building, so there was no need to drive.
A few quick steps later, they arrived.
In the classroom on the second floor, quite a few people were already seated.
The moment Tang Luochuan walked in, several girls looked up and couldn't help but take a few extra glances.
However, he didn't know anyone in the class, so he prepared to pick a corner to sit in first.
"Hey, buddy! From Dormitory 502, right!" a boy suddenly whispered.
Tang Luochuan was slightly taken aback, then smiled: "My name is Tang Luochuan. Are you from 502 too?"
"Yeah!" the boy nodded. "My name is Zhou Qi!"
"How did you know I was from 502?"
Tang Luochuan sat down next to him naturally.
Zhou Qi smiled slightly: "I've met all the boys in the class except you! It just so happens that one of the beds in our Dormitory was taken, but I couldn't find the person all afternoon. That must be you!"
Tang Luochuan gave a thumbs up: "How many people in the Dormitory?"
"And me, that makes three of us! My name is Zhang Ming!" A boy wearing glasses in the row behind tapped his shoulder.
"Nice to meet you!" Tang Luochuan also showed his friendly side, and the three boys soon started chatting away.
"Have you found a girlfriend yet?" Zhou Qi suddenly asked.
Tang Luochuan reacted a beat slower, thinking the other person was asking if he had a high school romance, and shook his head: "I dated one in high school, but we broke up!"
"Tsk, I'm asking about now, have you dated since coming to college?"
"Huh? Haven't we only been here for one day?"
"So? Have you found one?"
"That fast??"
"I just started dating one. Do you want my girlfriend to introduce you to other girls??"
Tang Luochuan gasped. He hadn't been idle all afternoon, and these roommates hadn't been idle either.
"Uh, no need for now. I'll look around a bit more!"
Just as he finished speaking, Zhang Ming suddenly lowered his head and whispered: "She's here! She's here! That girl, Jiang Jinyue!"
Tang Luochuan felt as if Zhang Ming was shy, and looked in the direction of his gaze.
At the classroom door, a figure stood against the light.
The rain curtain outside the window became her background.
Jiang Jinyue.
She was wearing a minimalist black outfit, a thin high-necked shirt that accentuated her long, crane-like neck.
Below her wide-leg pants, a section of fair ankle was exposed, and she was stepping into a pair of clean white canvas shoes.
No jewelry, no makeup, yet she looked like someone who had walked out of an ink wash painting!
The moment she walked in, everyone couldn't help but look at her.
The girls' eyes held envy, while the boys' eyes held anticipation.
But Jiang Jinyue gave off too cold of a vibe; she had no friends around her, just by herself.
Her hair tips were touched with a bit of rainwater, making her seem even more aloof.
No one dared to go over to strike up a conversation.
"Holy crap, she's too beautiful!" Zhou Qi couldn't help but mutter: "Compared to the one I just found, it's a total crush."
Tang Luochuan smiled upon hearing this: "Then why don't you go chat with this one?"
"Buddy, look at someone like her, is that someone we can chat up?"
Zhang Ming's voice suddenly dropped even lower: "She's coming over, she's coming over!"
Tang Luochuan, however, looked at the girl openly, his eyes filled with more confusion. This woman... is she being this pretentious??
There were two empty seats in the row in front of him, and the girl didn't even look at anyone.
She just walked over quietly, put down her bag, and sat down!
Throughout the whole process, she didn't look up, as if the dozens of people sitting in the classroom had nothing to do with her.
