6: Chapter 6: The rain stops, but a surprise remains; expensive clothes and a luxurious car shock the entire audience.
Hearing this, Shen Muyan was stunned and touched the clothes in disbelief. "How much did you say?"
"Over twenty thousand," Jiang Jinyue replied.
"Over twenty thousand?"
Shen Muyan's voice suddenly rose an octave: "This… this ratty piece of clothing is twenty thousand?"
She looked down at the dusty, grayish nylon jacket she was wearing, examining it left and right, but she just couldn't see where it was worth twenty thousand.
There wasn't even a logo. If Jiang Jinyue hadn't said anything, she would have thought it was a discounted item from some sports brand.
At this moment, Tang Luochuan walked out, looking at the sky outside the window with a solemn expression.
Shen Muyan could no longer concern herself with being embarrassed. She had wanted to be careful not to get it dirty, but she had still splashed some rainwater on it, and she couldn't afford to pay for it.
"Tang Luochuan, your clothes cost over twenty thousand??"
Shen Muyan's words drew everyone's attention. The students stopped in their tracks and gazed over.
A jacket costing over twenty thousand was certainly attractive.
Tang Luochuan was snapped out of his trance by this shout, looked at her, and said, "I don't know. I bought a whole bunch; I don't know how much each one costs!"
"You didn't ask?"
"Why would I ask that? They don't haggle!"
Everyone: "..."
Shen Muyan was left speechless by Tang Luochuan's logic. Was this a question of haggling?
Shouldn't this be a question of whether or not one can afford it?
However, the boy's financial resources still shocked her. Many girls began to scrutinize Tang Luochuan, seemingly calculating something in their minds.
Jiang Jinyue also cast a curious glance: "The clothes are yours."
"Oh, right!" Tang Luochuan replied nonchalantly, then looked out the window again. The rain was about to stop, and he was annoyed to death.
The weather forecast clearly said it would rain for several days in a row. If it turned out to be sunny tomorrow, wouldn't there still be Military Training??
"What are you looking at?" Jiang Jinyue asked, looking at the boy with great curiosity.
Tang Luochuan muttered, "Seeing if it's still raining. I don't want to do Military Training."
"Pfft." For some reason, this sentence hit Jiang Jinyue's funny bone, and she couldn't help but laugh out loud.
Zhou Qi, who was standing nearby, also walked over.
"Luochuan, your clothes cost over 20,000?"
"Yeah!"
"Holy crap! I couldn't tell, you're so rich?"
"Rich or not, I can't go to school naked."
"Pfft! Hahaha!" Jiang Jinyue, standing to the side, really couldn't hold it in anymore. The boy's snarky comment was just too much for her.
Tang Luochuan looked at the girl whose personality had suddenly changed and frowned: "Did someone hit your funny bone??"
"You... you..." Jiang Jinyue stifled her laughter. She didn't know why her sense of humor was different from others, but the more this guy talked, the more she wanted to laugh.
"You... hehe... hahaha... stop talking."
Jiang Jinyue clutched her stomach, her aloof persona shattered completely, her shoulders shaking with laughter.
Tang Luochuan looked bewildered and turned to look at Shen Muyan: "Is her sense of humor that low?"
"How would I know..." Shen Muyan was still fretting over the clothes. "The clothes got some rainwater on them. I'll wash them and return them to you."
"No need. Keep wearing them. I have too many to wear anyway." Tang Luochuan waved his hand and let his gaze drift back to the window. "Why is the rain getting lighter..."
As he spoke, footsteps echoed from the end of the hallway.
"Shen Muyan!"
A boy wearing a plaid shirt walked over quickly, clutching two umbrellas. His face was plastered with an eager smile. "I saw the rain was about to stop, but the ground is still wet, so I came specifically to pick you up!"
Shen Muyan's brows furrowed instantly.
She knew this person. He was a sophomore in the Computer Science department named Liu Yang. Last week, he "ran into" her three times in the library, and this week he "happened" to sit at the table next to her in the cafeteria.
"No need. I can go back myself." She leaned half a step closer to Tang Luochuan.
Liu Yang seemed not to see her resistance. His gaze landed on the Prada jacket, and he paused for a moment before smiling: "This piece of clothing... it's a really good fake. The knockoffs these days are getting better and better."
The air suddenly went quiet.
Tang Luochuan finally retracted his gaze from outside the window and looked Liu Yang up and down: "You have a sharp eye. Can you tell real from fake from three meters away?"
"Of course. My cousin is a purchasing agent; she sees a lot." Liu Yang puffed out his chest. "The cut, the stitching—it's definitely a good fake, but the authentic lining has a special..."
"Liu Yang!" Shen Muyan interrupted him. "Are you done yet?"
Liu Yang said sheepishly, "If this clothing were real, it would cost over twenty thousand. No student in our school could afford to wear it..."
"I can afford it." Tang Luochuan picked at his ear. "Anything else? If not, move aside. You're blocking my view of the rain."
Liu Yang's expression changed. He wanted to say something else, but was interrupted by a voice from behind—
"Luochuan! You left your keys on the table!"
Zhang Ming ran out of the classroom, shaking a BMW key in his hand. "Is this yours?"
Tang Luochuan touched his pants pocket; the keys were indeed not on him.
He hurriedly took them and muttered, "My mom is always scolding me for being scatterbrained! She's right! Thanks, brother!"
Then he looked at Shen Muyan: "Senior, let me drive you over. Didn't you say the female Dormitory is far?"
Shen Muyan remembered his BMW X7, and her heart skipped a beat.
The freshmen these days, they are only one year younger than her class.
Why are there so many rich people?
"Um... no need... that's awkward!"
"It's fine! It's just a press of the gas pedal."
Tang Luochuan said nonchalantly. The difference between him, Liu Yang, and Zhou Ziyu lay in the honesty of their attitudes.
Those two always held onto an air of superiority, thinking they were so exceptional.
They could pretend to be gentlemen.
But Tang Luochuan was very casual. Of course, this was also because he currently had no interest in Shen Muyan.
Liu Yang stood to the side, looking at the car keys in the other person's hand, only knowing it was a BMW.
But he didn't know what model.
"What kind of car do you drive, brother?"
"X7!"
"Oh, 3... uh..." The corners of Liu Yang's mouth had already lifted in a hint of mockery, just waiting for the other person to say the word "3".
The entry-level 3 Series, less than 300,000 on the road. His cousin bought one last year and was constantly nagged by the family for "puffing up his face to look like a fat man".
He had even prepared his lines: "3 Series? Nobody buys those anymore. The second-hand market has crashed, they're worthless..."
The words reached his lips, but he stopped abruptly.
X7?
His brain spun three times before he matched this letter with that behemoth—that car must cost over a million, right?
"It's... it's pretty good." Liu Yang squeezed out three words dryly. The two umbrellas in his hand suddenly became incredibly heavy.
Tang Luochuan finally looked up at him, with a hint of sincere confusion in his eyes: "You know cars too? What do you drive?"
"A little, just a little..." Liu Yang took half a step back. "Um... I have some things to do, I'll go first."
"You don't want your umbrellas?" Tang Luochuan pointed to the two unopened Paradise brand umbrellas in his hand.
"It's... it's a gift for you!"
When Liu Yang walked out of the teaching building, he happened to see the X7 parked in front of the restaurant next door.
The corners of his mouth couldn't help but twitch, and he thought to himself: "Oh no, the person who can take Shen Muyan has arrived."
