147: Angel wood carving
"I do know a bit of news," Han Xintian spoke up. "This Ling Xian might be the young Master of the Donghai Ling Group."
"Donghai Ling Group?" Lu Qingshan frowned. "They have business dealings with my Lu Family."
The Lu Family's patriarch had never managed the Lu Family's affairs, so he wasn't too familiar with these business dealings, but he could remember the general outline of their partners.
On the other side, Ling Xian was taking a walk to clear his mind, not following Lu Xiyue's suggestion to go sightseeing.
Instead, he returned to the Wu Family Mountain Villa's trading gathering once more.
Seeing this, Lu Xiyue pouted her little mouth, somewhat displeased. "Wooden Man."
"Southern Spring truly lives up to its reputation as a place specializing in the medicinal herb trade. The herbs here, even of the same age, are miles ahead of those from other places," Ling Xian remarked, picking up a Ginseng plant with a sigh.
However, his target wasn't these ordinary medicinal herbs; it was to intercept an important opportunity destined for Su Ran.
That was an old piece of wood, or rather a Wood Carving, of unknown origin, possibly some kind of natural treasure.
According to the plot's development, Su Ran used this piece of wood to forge his own Life-bound Spiritual Weapon, a Small Wooden Sword, which greatly boosted his strength.
It could be said that the wooden sword forged from this piece of wood was something Su Ran used all the way to the end.
One can imagine how valuable this piece of wood was; it was practically a Divine Wood.
With a simple sweep of his Eye of Detection, Ling Xian roughly determined the direction and walked towards a remote medicinal stall.
The Stall Owner was a Martial Artist who had also come for the trading gathering, but he was a step late, arriving a day behind.
This was normal. Everything was to avoid the notice of the majority and make the treasure appear inconspicuous, meant only for the Child of Destiny to pick up.
Although the Stall Owner arrived late, he had heard quite a few rumors and stories.
Among them, he had also heard of Ling Xian's terrifying deeds.
Seeing Ling Xian approach, he warmly received him.
"Young Master Ling graces us with his presence; I warmly welcome you," said the Stall Owner, whose face bore a scar and whose fierce smile, paired with his rough features, appeared menacing.
"How much for this Wood Carving?" Ling Xian didn't bother with small talk, pointing directly at his target.
The Stall Owner was taken aback, then his smile widened. "Young Master Ling has a good eye. So many people have come and gone at my stall, trading many medicinal herbs and weapons, but only a few recognize the value of this piece of wood."
The Stall Owner wanted to praise the Wood Carving, but the words stuck in his throat, unsure where to begin.
"This Wood Carving... has the ability to absorb Spiritual Power, capable of absorbing it completely, no matter how much."
"How much?" Ling Xian interrupted, getting straight to the point.
"A flat price: fifty body tempering pills!" The Stall Owner seemed to know the reputation of body tempering pills.
"Hmm?" Ling Xian raised an eyebrow, somewhat surprised.
"Aren't you going to check the quality of the body tempering pills before naming a price? Aren't you afraid I'll cheat you?"
"Someone like Young Master Ling is destined to be a great figure. Why would you cheat a small fry like me? If you really wanted it, you could just send people to ambush me halfway, and I'd have to accept my fate."
The Stall Owner smiled bitterly, accustomed to such things.
Instead, he felt more trust in Ling Xian's identity.
"Haha, interesting. You don't even understand the value of this Wood Carving yourself, yet you dare ask for fifty body tempering pills?"
"I suppose you know that yesterday, a Monk exchanged a fifty-year-old Peiyuan Grass for only thirty pills."
Ling Xian chuckled lightly, intrigued by the Stall Owner's actions.
"Haha, since Young Master Ling is interested, it naturally can't be an ordinary item. I trust Young Master Ling's judgment," the Stall Owner grinned, showering him with praise.
Ling Xian shook his head with a smile, took out five Porcelain Bottles from his Storage Ring, and tossed them to the Stall Owner.
Each bottle was filled with ten Inferior-quality Body Tempering Pills.
The Stall Owner opened one bottle, and instantly, a rich, mellow Medicinal Fragrance wafted out. He realized the pills were even better than he had imagined.
"Young Master Ling, you're truly generous!" The Stall Owner gave a thumbs-up.
He was excited, truly excited.
For him, trading a Wood Carving of unknown use for so many body tempering pills to refine his body was a profitable deal!
Ling Xian took the Wood Carving and narrowed his eyes slightly.
The carving depicted a winged Bird-person, which in The West would be called an Angel.
As for the Craftsmanship, Ling Xian's evaluation was crude, very crude.
However, this type of wood was indeed difficult to carve.
"Staring at it for too long actually makes me a bit dizzy," Ling Xian thought to himself, then injected a trace of Spiritual Power into the carving.
The moment Spiritual Power was injected into the Wood Carving, a sudden change occurred.
"Boom!"
The Wood Carving seemed to emit a divine light, transforming into a Phantom of a Divine Statue, vividly appearing in Ling Xian's mind.
In an instant, Ling Xian felt as if he were inside it. Multicolored streams of light eventually turned into white light, guiding Ling Xian forward.
His footsteps tread upon the Void, walking among the Stars, each step crossing space, each step crossing worlds. On the countless Stars in the sky, countless people were bowing in worship to a White-robed, Two-winged Female Angel.
"Human?" The Angel spoke, her voice ethereal and empty, carrying a hint of sacredness and seeming confusion.
Clearly, she no longer regarded the worshipping people as humans but saw Ling Xian, the intruder, as a human.
Immediately, the Angel used some special power, creating a buzzing fluctuation that resonated with countless Stars, trying to force Ling Xian to submit.
"Scram!" Ling Xian roared angrily. "A mere strand of Spiritual Power from who knows where dares to cause trouble."
At first glance, Ling Xian was also astonished, as if witnessing a deity's descent.
At second glance, he realized this power was all show, most likely similar to a Remnant Soul like the Beast King's.
The Angel was somewhat surprised. Combining Spiritual Power with the Power of Faith, she exerted pressure on Ling Xian once more.
Looking at the Spiritual Power alone, it was indeed all show, but paired with the Power of Faith, it was like a dry riverbed being flooded with torrential waters.
However, a special strand of Spiritual Power pulled Ling Xian out of the Starry Expanse and simultaneously sealed this Angel's Spiritual Power.
"How dare you think my disciple's kneeling is something you can bear!" The woman's voice wasn't loud, yet it reverberated throughout the entire space.
The Angel stared at the woman before her, and her perpetually calm expression finally revealed earth-shattering waves of emotion.
"You are..." The Angel's words didn't have time to finish.
Ling Xian's Master had already made her move, unleashing the power of the Undead Divine Fire.
"The future successor of my Watch Star, even among the Undead Race, is a King-level Existence. How dare you profane him."
The illusion shattered. Ling Xian's eyes turned cold, his spirit not yet fully recovered.
"Young Master Ling, are you alright?" The Stall Owner, seeing Ling Xian spaced out for too long, couldn't help but worry.
This was only because Ling San's flying dagger was already resting against his neck.
"I'm fine. I'd like to know the origin of this Wood Carving," Ling Xian said with a glance, signaling Ling San to sheathe her dagger.
Seeing this, the Stall Owner breathed a sigh of relief. "Easy, easy."
"This Wood Carving was something I received as collateral for helping a Wealthy Businessman from Dragon Country with a task.
Roughly speaking, the Wealthy Businessman obtained it from an Auction in The West.
If auctioned as an Artwork, it could probably fetch a few million, even tens of millions."
The Stall Owner shrugged, knowing only this much information.
"The West? An Angel? The Power of Faith?" Ling Xian murmured to himself.
These were details not mentioned in Su Ran's original plot.
In those plotlines, it only mentioned Su Ran obtaining the Wood Carving, modifying it into a wooden sword, and wreaking havoc.
Su Ran's show-off moments were remembered clearly, but these crucial details were all omitted.
The Power of Faith—Ling Xian had heard of it from his Master—was a cultivation method.
The Power of Faith is a branch of Spiritual Power cultivation.
It just so happened that cultivating the Power of Faith was once highly popular.
Seeing the Stall Owner exchange for fifty body tempering pills, other Martial Artists also began to take notice.
So, it seemed one didn't necessarily need precious medicine to exchange for pills.
For a time, all sorts of strange and bizarre items emerged one after another.
But Ling Xian merely gave them a rough sweep with his Eye of Detection; they were all trash.
Indeed, luck still couldn't compare to that of the Child of Destiny.
Just then, a commotion arose at the entrance.
"Elder Shen, the Seventh Elder of Medicine King Valley, has arrived!"
"This is a Grandmaster Level expert, and an Alchemist at that. Why would he come to such a small place?"
"The last time Elder Shen participated in a trading gathering was probably five years ago," remarked some veteran Martial Artists of the trading gatherings.
