24: Gift

Hearing the mention of a gift, Yin Chaoge and Gu Wanquan looked up at the same time. After a tacit exchange of looks, they both felt disgusted and instantly turned their heads away.

Su Yi didn't notice the 'friendly' interaction between his two Disciples; instead, his gaze was fixed on a rather spindly old tree in a corner of the courtyard.

That was a sandalwood tree tree he had planted in his second year after transmigrating. He had originally planned to rely on tree-growing to strike it rich, but he never expected this world to be a world of Immortals and Martial Arts!

His heart for striking it rich died then, but this sandalwood tree tree remained.

sandalwood tree grows very slowly. Even after several hundred years, it was only about a dozen meters tall and two or three people wide around.

Su Yi walked up to the sandalwood tree tree, tilting his head back to carefully examine the branches.

Gu Wanquan and Yin Chaoge stood behind Su Yi, one on each side, also looking up, but they had no idea what Su Yi intended to do.

In their memories of their previous lives, Master had not given them any gifts at this time.

Seemingly having found his target, Su Yi loosened up his limbs and began to climb the sandalwood tree tree.

Gu Wanquan and Yin Chaoge were about to step forward to help, but Su Yi, as agile as a monkey, had already climbed into the canopy in the blink of an eye.

Standing in the canopy, Su Yi shouted down to his two somewhat flustered Disciples, "Go and bring me an axe!"

Hearing Su Yi's call, Yin Chaoge, who had taken over the wood-chopping duties, turned and ran to the woodshed. He returned to the tree and was about to leap up into the branches when Gu Wanquan stopped him.

Gu Wanquan said solemnly, in a voice only the two of them could hear, "Something Master is personally giving us, let Master make it with his own hands!"

Yin Chaoge looked up and saw Su Yi crouching on a branch, waving at him. "Throw the axe to me! Be careful—if you hit me, I'll go down there and knock your head!"

This Demon Venerable, who in his previous life had smashed the world with his fists, was now feeling extremely nervous, terrified that he might use too much force and split his Master's head open!

He tried several times but didn't dare throw it up. Gu Wanquan, unable to watch any longer, snatched the axe and threw it up skillfully, landing it perfectly in Su Yi's hand.

He turned to look at Yin Chaoge, who had breathed a sigh of relief, and said with a half-smile, "Knowing how to control your strength is the mark of a qualified Sword Cultivator, not just being a brute who only knows how to swing fists!"

"Who the hell are you calling a brute?" Yin Chaoge muttered defiantly with a stiff neck.

"I'm calling whoever answers!" Gu Wanquan said with a smile, though his words were unforgiving.

While the two were bickering, Su Yi, standing in the canopy, had already begun swinging the axe to cut the wood.

Before long, a fairly thick branch was chopped off. The two standing below dodged to the side, watched Su Yi toss the axe down, and then saw him jump down from the tree like a monkey.

When they saw Su Yi split the branch in two and begin trimming it, even the thick-headed Yin Chaoge could see what gift Master intended to give them!

Su Yi intended to use the wood to craft weapons for them!

Understanding this, Yin Chaoge crouched beside Su Yi, staring unblinkingly at Su Yi's movements, trying to guess which one would be the gift Master would give to him!

Gu Wanquan, who had understood long ago, couldn't stop smiling. He ran back and forth between the kitchen and the courtyard several times.

He boiled water to make tea, prepared small snacks, and held a fan to fan Su Yi.

Though they didn't say it, both Gu Wanquan and Yin Chaoge were using their actions to hope that Master could work a little faster!

sandalwood tree is very hard, and Su Yi trimmed it slowly. In the eyes of the two, the day passed very slowly.

From early morning to noon, and from noon to dusk.

While eating lunch, both of them held their bowls but stared absentmindedly at the branches in the corner of the courtyard, terrified that an Eighth-rank Savage Demon might suddenly jump out from somewhere and steal the gifts that Master had already trimmed into shape!

As time passed, the branches gradually took form.

One was a three-foot Han-style wooden sword, and the other was a Xiuchun Wooden Saber.

Seeing the sandalwood tree in Su Yi's hands gradually take shape, even the steady Gu Wanquan couldn't help but have his breathing quicken.

Compared to Yin Chaoge, who only used his fists, Gu Wanquan, who was a Sword Cultivator in his previous life, naturally knew how to appreciate a sword.

The saber and sword in Su Yi's hands couldn't be called exquisite; they could even be considered crude.

But in the eyes of Gu Wanquan, who was the White Lotus Sword Immortal and the number one under heaven in his previous life, that unfinished wooden sword in Master's hand was more precious than any famous sword in the world!

In his previous life, Master had never given him a wooden sword he made himself, but had instead found him a peerless divine weapon!

But in Gu Wanquan's eyes, that peerless divine weapon couldn't even compare to a wood chip falling off this crude wooden sword!

On the other hand, Yin Chaoge didn't care much for weapons, but the corners of his mouth, which were stretched nearly to the back of his head, revealed the Demon Venerable's love for Master's gift!

Under the gaze of his two disciples, who were waiting with bated breath, Su Yi, who had originally planned to finish them over several days, was forced to put his head down and work overtime to finish the job.

Whenever he wanted to take a break, Yin Chaoge would immediately massage his legs and shoulders, then ask if he was still tired.

Meanwhile, Gu Wanquan would bring tea and snacks. He didn't rush him, but instead considerately urged him to replenish his strength.

Under the high-intensity pressure from his two Disciples, Su Yi finally finished both weapons just as the moon hung high in the sky.

Why finish them at the same time?

"Master, Senior Brother's hilt is already carved, but mine hasn't been carved yet!"

"Master, Junior Brother's blade has already been polished, but my sword hasn't been polished yet!"

"Master!"

"Master..."

Like children fighting over candy, even Gu Wanquan, who usually seemed steady in Su Yi's eyes, was incredibly nervous, terrified that his gift would be completed later than the other's!

"It's just a wooden weapon. Are these two silly boys really that nervous?" Su Yi found it somewhat incomprehensible, but he could only attribute it to the strange competitive spirit of boys!

When the simultaneously crafted wooden weapons were handed to the two who had been waiting with bated breath, they both knelt down in unison and held their hands high to receive the wood from Su Yi's hands.

"Thank you, Master!" The two bowed solemnly, which actually made Su Yi feel embarrassed.

There really wasn't anything good in the house, and he didn't care for sabers or swords himself. He had originally thought to just casually make a saber and a sword out of wood for the two disciples to use for now.

He would then find a way to dig up some of his old buddies' graves to equip his two disciples with better weapons.

But he hadn't expected these two brats to treat these two pieces of wood as if they were some kind of peerless divine weapons!

Suddenly feeling that he had wronged his disciples, Su Yi said with some embarrassment, "Cough, it's just wood. You don't need to cherish it too much. If it breaks, I'll make you another one. In a few days, we'll head out of the mountains and find you some proper weapons!"

Gu Wanquan and Yin Chaoge wished they could glue their eyes to their precious wooden treasures. Without looking up, they said to Su Yi:

"Master, the food is warming in the pot, go and eat!"

"Master, you've been tired all day, please rest early after you eat!"

"These two brats have some issues!" Su Yi shook his head and went to the kitchen to eat, grumbling under his breath.

The polished wooden saber and sword in their hands were, to them at this moment, better than countless peerless divine weapons in this world.

Yin Chaoge looked at the saber in his hand, then glanced at the sword in Gu Wanquan's hand, and immediately laughed triumphantly, "Hehehe, White Noodle, my saber is wider than yours!"

Gu Wanquan glanced at the wooden saber in Yin Chaoge's arms and said disdainfully, "Don't you see that my sword is more refined than yours?"

Under the high-hanging moon, the Sword Immortal and the Demon Venerable of the previous life seemed like two young boys at this moment.

Comparing themselves to each other, neither willing to be outdone!
