3: Arrogant Sword Immortal

Su Yi was a transmigrator.

In his past life, Su Yi, who was a corporate slave, struck it big on a very ordinary commute home from work.

Before he died, besides vaguely hearing a truck driver wailing, he didn't feel any pain:

"Blind spot! I didn't see him!"

"By the time I saw him, I couldn't stop in time!"

"I thought it was a speed bump!"

"Then go tell that to the insurance company!"

"We are all living with all our might!"

By the end, Su Yi could even hear the driver crying and singing.

When the internet memes manifested upon him, Su Yi finally understood how authoritative the 'Great Fortune' truck was at sending people to transmigrate!

"I don't know if I'll live, but this driver is really something else."

When Su Yi woke up again, he had arrived in this world.

Su Yi had almost forgotten how long he had been in this world.

Around... five hundred years?

Su Yi couldn't quite remember either.

Because the group of people he knew right after he transmigrated had all passed away.

Although this world did have a cultivation system where reaching a profound level allowed one to split mountains with a Flying Sword and sever rivers with a punch.

However, the cultivators of this world only had the same lifespan as ordinary people!

Even if your strength was formidable and you swept through all enemies of your generation, you were still like an ordinary person.

You would get hungry, fall ill, grow old, and die.

In the long river of history, countless prodigies sought a way to achieve longevity through their peak strength.

But without exception, they could only grow old and die in resentment.

Yet, only Su Yi remained.

Longevity, which no one else could achieve, was something Su Yi had attained.

Perhaps this was his only 'cheat' as a transmigrator.

Time seemed to have stagnated for Su Yi, as if the world had forgotten such a person existed.

From the grand ambitions he had when he first transmigrated to his current state of dull indifference.

Time proved that as long as you lived long enough, you would eventually grow weary of the world.

"Don't think about cultivating for immortality; longevity isn't a blessing, but rather feels more like a curse!"

Su Yi said truthfully while sitting on a stool, holding a bowl and shoveling food into his mouth.

"Then why were you willing to take me in? Was it because of Taoist Grandpa?" Gu Wanquan swallowed a mouthful of rice and asked indistinctly.

Su Yi shook his head and said, "While that's part of it, it's mostly because I find your name very interesting!"

Gu Wanquan looked at Su Yi, bewildered. "My name? Gu Wanquan?"

"Yes, Wanquan—Wanquan, everything is perfectly secure."

"Just like your name, Su Yi—the revival of all things, riding on the crest of success? But shouldn't names have a good meaning?" Gu Wanquan asked curiously.

Su Yi's chopsticks paused as he looked at Gu Wanquan, but a face both familiar and strange appeared before his eyes.

A brilliant smile like a small sun, and a voice like a gentle spring breeze echoed softly in his ears:

"It's a good name. The revival of all things, riding on the crest of success!"

Shaking off the daze and looking at the boy before him again, Su Yi's expression became subtle.

Then Su Yi turned his head and continued walking, his voice slightly low as he said, "Actually, there's another reason. Do you know that three hundred years ago, a Sword Immortal appeared in this world?"

Hearing this, Gu Wanquan's eyes lit up, and he immediately replied, "I know! The Aotian Sword Immortal! The one who once slew a Heavenly Demon with a single strike! I even have Storybooks about his deeds at home!"

"Aotian Sword Immortal? That's what people call him now?" Su Yi twitched his lips, struggling to suppress a laugh.

If that fellow were still alive and heard people calling him that, with his arrogant personality, the look on his face would surely be priceless.

Su Yi said with interest, "Oh? Tell me, what do the Storybooks say about him?"

"Legend says that three hundred years ago, there were Savage Demon invasions in the north and Heavenly Demon disturbances within. Life was devastated everywhere. Just as the Human Race faced an existential crisis, the Aotian Sword Immortal gathered a group of prodigies to eliminate demons, uphold the Dao, and champion justice, rescuing the Human Race from dire straits. He even unleashed a world-shaking strike, with Sword Qi spanning Nineteen Provinces!"

Speaking of the Aotian Sword Immortal from the Storybooks, Gu Wanquan's eyes grew brighter.

Every boy who wants to be a hero admires the heroes people talk about, especially one who saved the world.

This Aotian Sword Immortal, who had appeared out of nowhere, was mysterious, powerful, and handsome.

Naturally, he was highly sought after, so Gu Wanquan, who had grown up listening to the Sword Immortal's stories, could recount his deeds with ease.

"Damn, that kid is that famous now? I didn't think he was that impressive back then."

Listening to Gu Wanquan describe the Aotian Sword Immortal effortlessly slaying demons, Su Yi felt that it didn't match the person in his memory at all.

"Did Yu Zhen ever tell you about his Master?" Su Yi asked curiously.

Upon hearing Yu Zhen's name, Gu Wanquan's previously excited expression turned sorrowful. He put down his chopsticks and began to sob, wiping away tears.

Seeing Gu Wanquan like this, Su Yi also sighed softly and placed a chicken leg into Gu Wanquan's bowl.

Compared to the young Gu Wanquan, he had witnessed too many departures.

Seeing the heavy atmosphere between them, Su Yi changed the subject. "Yu Zhen's Master is the Aotian Sword Immortal you mentioned!"

Gu Wanquan snapped his head up, his tear-streaked face full of astonishment as he looked at Su Yi in disbelief.

"What? You don't believe me?" Su Yi asked smugly, looking at the incredulous Gu Wanquan.

"You mean that incredibly powerful Aotian Sword Immortal was Taoist Grandpa's Master?" Gu Wanquan stood up in shock and asked.

"Yes. Unless there was another Sword Immortal three hundred years ago, then that's the one!" Su Yi nodded in confirmation.

Talk about a surprise; talk about being at a loss.

The person he had just been admiring, a hero known to the whole world, was suddenly so close to him. The massive surprise left the fifteen-year-old boy unsure of how to react.

"It's not as magical as you imagine. A Sword Immortal still has to eat and shit!" Su Yi said casually while eating unhurriedly.

"Then... what does that have to do with you taking me as your disciple?" Gu Wanquan asked nervously.

"You are stronger than him!" Su Yi said as if it were a matter of fact.

Gu Wanquan pointed at himself and questioned in disbelief, "I'm stronger than the Aotian Sword Immortal? How is that possible!"

That Sword Immortal traveled the world, slaying demons and devils, while he was just a powerless boy.

Su Yi looked at the excited Gu Wanquan, a hint of a smile appearing on his face as he said, "Why not? At least when he was your age, he was still begging for food everywhere."

"Begging? The Aotian Sword Immortal was a beggar before he started cultivating?" Gu Wanquan asked in astonishment.

Su Yi looked at the boy and said with a chuckle, "What's wrong with being a beggar? Don't you know that in this world, the people you should least underestimate are beggars?"

Gu Wanquan nodded in agreement. "True, the Storybooks all say that. The protagonist happens to help a beggar, and then that beggar casually pulls out a supreme Cultivation Technique!"

"Oh, Storybooks these days are quite trendy!" Su Yi remarked with some surprise.

He didn't expect the Storybooks in this world to follow the 'power fantasy' templates of a certain website from his past life.
