44: Liu Yan

Liu Yan woke up slowly, opening her eyes in a daze.

She didn't know how much time had passed; she only remembered her parents dying tragically before her, watching with her own eyes as those terrifying monsters tore out their hearts!

Those hearts, still steaming with heat, were excitedly shared and eaten by those monsters!

The monsters' revelry, the tragic death of her loved ones, the fate of waiting to be slaughtered.

Prostrate over her dead parents, Liu Yan had already accepted her fate.

But in the next second, the Shanxiao, which had been like a phantom, exploded into a cloud of blood mist right before her!

Liu Yan looked up blankly and saw the gentle smiling face of Gu Wanquan, dressed in white.

Dressed in white with a sword hanging from his waist, he was handsome and elegant, with a righteous and peaceful look and a bright, warm smile—exactly like the great figures who saved the world in her Father's stories.

Had all those monsters been killed by this great figure?

When she realized she was saved, there was no gratitude in Liu Yan's heart; the little girl was full of resentment, but in the next second, she didn't even know how to hate!

The monsters that killed her parents were casually killed by the great figure before her.

Was her revenge over just like that?

Then what about her hatred?

Was the death of her Father and Mother just over like this?

When hatred reaches its peak, emotions need an outlet.

When Gu Wanquan appeared before Liu Yan, the little girl subconsciously transferred all her hatred onto him!

If he had come earlier, even just fifteen minutes earlier, the village wouldn't have been destroyed by those monsters, and her parents wouldn't have died tragically!

Subconscious blame and resentment blurted out!

But the great figure didn't let her off; instead, he slowly drew a crudely shaped wooden sword from his waist: "Damn Shanxiao, to actually possess her body—you really deserve to die!"

Liu Yan froze, not reacting: "Ah? Who? I was possessed by a monster? How come I didn't know?"

Before the thought could even settle, the wooden sword, emitting a sword glow, was already before her eyes. On that face that clearly wore a gentle smile, his eyes were as cold as a ten-thousand-year-old deep pool.

Am I really going to die after all?

Another wooden saber blocked the White-robed Youth's wooden sword; Yin Chaoge stood before Liu Yan with his saber.

Also a good-looking person, his black clothes made his handsome face look even colder, and the flecks of blood on his face added a hint of eerie, wicked charm.

After experiencing death once, Liu Yan suddenly didn't want to die.

She subconsciously hugged Yin Chaoge's leg, wanting to complain to this great figure about the White-robed Youth.

But she was kicked away ruthlessly by the Youth in Black, like a piece of trash.

At the moment she fainted, Liu Yan remembered the advice her Grandfather at the village entrance gave her: "We are just ordinary people like ants. If those sky-like great figures don't trample us to death, they probably just find us too disgusting and fear we'll dirty their boots!"

Do ordinary people really deserve to die?

Liu Yan looked at the night sky in a daze. The pungent smell of firewood smoke mixed with the smell of charred corpses stimulated her nose and mouth, and tears flowed down involuntarily.

"You're awake?"

Su Yi, sitting nearby, looked at Liu Yan as she opened her eyes and asked softly.

Liu Yan turned her head. An ordinary-looking middle-aged man wearing a loose Daoist robe sat beside her.

"When are you going to kill me?" Liu Yan asked woodenly.

Su Yi sighed and replied, "It's okay now, girl. It's all over!"

Liu Yan sat up abruptly and roared at Su Yi: "What are you hypocrites saying? You watched us ordinary people get killed, and you only showed up at the end to save me alone, just to become heroes praised by everyone?!"

That cold, divine face was now twisted and hideous, and even the black mole between her eyebrows looked ugly.

Su Yi, who had lived for hundreds of years, didn't answer. He had heard this kind of questioning and resentment too many times, so many that he was somewhat numb.

In such a world of immortals and martial arts, power is the only measure of a person's value.

Under this standard, those ordinary people without power have no choice but to carry their hatred.

Just like himself when he first transmigrated!

Su Yi added a handful of firewood to the campfire in front of him and said softly, "Eat something, drink some water."

Looking at the dry rations and water, Liu Yan knocked them away and lunged at Su Yi. Veins popped on her distorted face as she grabbed Su Yi's clothes and roared: "Kill me! Kill me! I won't be grateful to you, I will only hate you! If you don't kill me, one day I will kill you all!"

Su Yi looked at the girl before him who seemed possessed by madness, as if seeing his former self through her. He looked at her with weary eyes and comforted her softly: "If one day you can kill me, then I'll be waiting for you!"

Gu Wanquan and Yin Chaoge stood not far away, watching Liu Yan lunge at Su Yi, their expressions varied.

With their cultivation as Fifth-tier Great Cultivators, they should have been able to hear the conversation clearly, but their Master had opened his Immortal Domain, preventing them from hearing the dialogue between their Master and Liu Yan.

Gu Wanquan's hands, hidden in his sleeves, were clenched until his knuckles turned white. His eyes flickered with uncertain light. He wanted to step forward several times, but because his Master had said beforehand that they couldn't approach without his permission, Gu Wanquan couldn't help but hesitate again.

This scene had also happened in his previous life, but just like then, he didn't know what his Master had said to Liu Yan. He only thought his Master had resolved the knot in her heart.

It was also after this night that he began to work like a slave for Liu Yan. She accepted all his efforts without exception, but she always treated him with a cold and aloof attitude.

It wasn't until the Guanyue Sect took her in as a Personal Disciple that they met again ten years later.

In his previous life, Gu Wanquan had suggested more than once that his Master take Liu Yan as a Disciple, but his Master had sternly refused, and Liu Yan was also unwilling to take the ordinary Su Yi as her Master!

Regarding Liu Yan, Gu Wanquan now only wanted to kill her with one sword strike.

Just one strike could end the grievances between him and her from their previous life. As long as she died, he could forgive her!

But that damned Black Steamed Bun actually blocked his sword!

Did he think that by sparing Liu Yan's life, he could kill him like in the previous life?

What "following the will of heaven" or "bearing Karma"?

A person lives one life, contending with heaven, fighting with earth, and risking their life against themselves—only then will there be a day to stand out.

How could Black Steamed Bun, who relied on talent and the demonic sect supreme treasure, understand what fate meant better than Gu Wanquan, who had fought through countless battles?

Fate is the excuse of the weak; luck is the humility of the strong!

In the previous life, this Black Steamed Bun had never won against him once. Now, having lived again, did he still want to rely on such despicable means to win?

Relying on a woman? Relying on those hypocrites who stabbed him in the back?

Gu Wanquan turned to look at the somewhat guilty Yin Chaoge and said coldly with lowered eyes, "Black Steamed Bun, I suddenly want to slaughter you for no reason at all!"

Meanwhile, Yin Chaoge looked at Su Yi and Liu Yan in the distance with some concern. He was the one who had kicked Liu Yan into unconsciousness. His Master had just praised him for being kind-hearted—could this woman let it slip and expose him?

Yin Chaoge, who was worried about his secret being revealed, was stunned for a moment before replying with a cold sneer, "White Noodle, you will die by my hands sooner or later!"
