26: Chapter 26 Giant Wild Boar King
This male boar was foraging in the mountain col. The mountains on both sides were quite steep and difficult to climb, so the Incarnation decided to concentrate everyone's firepower at one point, shooting down at the boar from the vantage point of a large tree.
After observing the boar's activity traces, it was discovered that its nest should be at the foot of the mountain, and it had only come up to forage.
Therefore, he organized everyone to circle behind the boar and ambush it from a tree on a steep slope over ten meters high.
At noon, everyone finally waited for the boar to arrive. This time, all members of the Exploration Team were in nearby trees, so even if they couldn't kill the boar, they could avoid its attacks.
Considering the size of the boar, the Exploration Team chose large trees that were dozens of centimeters thick.
Just as the boar was swaying as it walked past below, the Incarnation fired the first arrow, aiming at its head. However, it didn't hit the brain but struck the neck instead, causing the boar, in its pain, to try and pull the arrowhead out with its mouth.
After the Incarnation fired the first arrow, the other four also shot their arrows. The others did not have the Incarnation's Precision, so they aimed at the boar's body. Two arrows hit the boar's back but didn't penetrate too deeply, another arrow hit the boar's thigh but was quite shallow, and the final arrow landed at the boar's feet, missing the target.
When the boar discovered that people were still attacking it, it turned its head and exerted force, ripping the arrow that had pierced its neck out, along with blood and flesh.
It then immediately targeted the Exploration Team and charged toward everyone while howling.
At this moment, the Incarnation's second arrow followed up, hitting the boar's neck spine directly. It seemed to shock its nerves, causing the boar's mobility to be severely impaired; it walked unsteadily, and its speed slowed down.
At a distance of 10 meters, after several rounds of attacks, seven or eight arrows were stuck in the boar's body. Just as it was about to charge to the tree where the Exploration Team was, it slowly collapsed.
Chen Yanshan and Liu Tingquan remained in the trees. Without ranged weapons, their bodies had been tense the whole time. Seeing the boar finally collapse, they finally breathed a sigh of relief.
The Incarnation told everyone to wait a few minutes, and only after confirming the boar was dead did he lead everyone down from the trees.
Walking up to the boar, the four coaches were amazed and couldn't believe they had done this. Then, looking at each other, they let out a series of hearty laughs, "Hahaha..."
Finally, everyone took a group photo with the giant boar. It was a very memorable moment, representing that they, who had played with bows and arrows for decades, finally had a place to put their skills to use.
After retrieving the arrows and burying the carcass, the Incarnation led everyone to the mountaintop on the right side to rest and cook.
Not long after the Exploration Team left, a near-adult boar arrived at the place where the previous boar had been shot. This boar sniffed around, let out a few low growls, and dug up the male boar's carcass from a patch of fresh soil. It seemed to confirm something, let out a low growl in the direction of the Exploration Team, and then quickly ran toward the Four Corners Plateau.
In the afternoon, everyone prepared to go down the mountain to enter the Four Corners Plateau, traverse across it, and climb the second mountain range from the northern valley.
However, this crossing was not smooth. After finding two used job-change stones, the Incarnation sensed something unusual and reminded everyone to stay close to large trees while traveling.
It wasn't until the Incarnation keenly heard a series of heavy movements and noticed some boar feces nearby that he clearly confirmed the Exploration Team was being tracked by a pack of boars.
He immediately told everyone to climb the nearest large tree. After seeing everyone get up into the trees, he quickly climbed up a twenty-to-thirty-centimeter-thick evergreen oak in a few moves. This area was basically a grove of evergreen oaks; their fruits resembled nuts and were also food for omnivorous animals like boars.
Amidst the tremors, this pack of boars was like a shock force charging recklessly on a battlefield, trampling and knocking down some low shrubs nearby, gradually revealing the full scope of the entire boar pack.
When they saw these dozens of boars, and one boar in particular, the hearts of the Exploration Team members jumped into their throats. They didn't even dare to breathe.
Among this pack of boars, one was exceptionally massive, even a size larger than an adult water buffalo. This was a true Boar King. Its weight was at least one or two tons, and it walked like a heavy armored tank, leaving deep hoof prints on the ground where it passed.
Among them were also five or six adult boars weighing five or six hundred jin, and the others were boars weighing several hundred jin that were about to reach adulthood.
When the others saw the size and appearance of the leading Boar King clearly, their faces gradually turned pale. The confidence they had previously felt from hunting and killing that male boar vanished completely.
After observing the number of boars in the pack and the size and strength of the Boar King, the Incarnation felt that with their current firepower, they still had a fighting chance. He quickly made a plan in his mind.
Usually, a boar pack is led by an old sow, with some adult female sows and other underage boars gathered around it. Although sows are not known for their tusks, this old Boar King, which had mutated after using a job-change stone, had upward-curving tusks that were already thirty to forty centimeters long, and the thickest part was nearly as thick as an adult man's arm.
Therefore, the way to repel the boar pack was to capture the ringleader first; by concentrating fire to kill this Boar King first, the boar pack without the Boar King's leadership would be easier to defeat.
The Incarnation first gave the order to everyone to attack the Boar King. They had to launch the attack first; if they waited any longer, these people might lose their composure due to fear.
"Four coaches, you still have Compound Bows in your hands. Wait for these boars to get closer, and prioritize attacking that Boar King."
"Chen Yanshan, Liu Tingquan, you two don't need to worry about anything else; prioritize protecting your own lives."
Just as his voice fell, the boar pack led by the Boar King approached within seven or eight meters of the large trees where the Exploration Team was located.
This Boar King stared at the people in the trees with its huge eyes and let out a few low growls.
Immediately, two adult boars, leading a dozen or so underage boars, surrounded these few trees.
Seeing that this Boar King actually knew how to command the boar pack, he knew they couldn't wait for it to get any closer.
"Fire!"
He took out his Compound Bow, nocked an arrow, and fired the first arrow at the Boar King.
Among the four coaches, Mo Yumei performed the best, adapting to the environment of shooting from a tree extremely quickly. The other three, because they needed to secure their positions in the trees while also freeing up their hands to nock and shoot arrows, had much worse Precision and shot at other boars beside the Boar King.
But unexpectedly, when the Incarnation's arrow was shot toward the Boar King, it was actually deflected aside by its tusks.
And Mo Yumei's arrow did hit the Boar King's body, but the Boar King shook its body twice, and the arrow fell off and was stepped on and snapped by it. The arrow had only shallowly pierced the boar's skin and hadn't penetrated very deep.
