101: Chapter 101 Dr. Lu! You're trending again!
6:40 AM.
Lu Chen's biological clock woke him up right on time.
He opened his eyes; the ceiling was the same ceiling, and the Duty Room was the same Duty Room.
He sat up and picked up his phone.
Seven unread messages.
Six were from Shen Xiaoning.
[Shen Xiaoning: Good morning!]
[Shen Xiaoning: The weather is great today!]
[Shen Xiaoning: I brought you soy milk and steamed buns!]
[Shen Xiaoning: They're hot! Eat them while they're hot!]
[Shen Xiaoning: I left them in the usual spot at the Nurse Station!]
[Shen Xiaoning: Get up quickly!]
There was one more from Zhao Yaqin.
[Zhao Yaqin: If you have time this morning, come find me. I've organized the ultrasound image data from yesterday.]
Lu Chen replied to Zhao Yaqin with an "Okay".
Then he replied to Shen Xiaoning.
[Lu Chen: Thanks.]
Less than three seconds later.
[Shen Xiaoning: Did you just wake up? Are you grumpy in the morning?]
[Lu Chen: I don't have morning grumpiness.]
[Shen Xiaoning: Liar. I heard from Sister Meng that you get unhappy if you don't have coffee in the morning.]
[Lu Chen: She's just making things up.]
[Shen Xiaoning: Hahaha, then hurry up and eat the steamed buns! They won't taste good if they get cold!]
Lu Chen put down his phone, finished washing up, put on his white coat, and left the Duty Room.
Sure enough, there was a bag of steamed buns and a cup of soy milk at the Nurse Station.
Meng Yan was nearby organizing the shift handover records. Seeing him approach, she pursed her lips.
"That little Nurse of yours came to drop off breakfast before seven this morning, even earlier than our Head Nurse."
"Sister Meng, don't talk nonsense."
"What did I say? I'm just stating a fact."
Lu Chen didn't respond and picked up a steamed bun, taking a bite.
It was still hot.
The soy milk was sweet.
After finishing breakfast, he went to get the ultrasound image data that Zhao Yaqin had organized.
It was a stack of printed images, clearly labeled.
The location of the loculated cavity, the ultrasound cross-section of the Puncture window, and the comparison images before and after drainage.
"Sister Zhao, did you do these labels?"
"Yes, I followed the standards for research paper illustrations. I added the arrows, labels, and scale bars."
"Thank you for your hard work."
"It's not hard work. That needle of yours was much harder work than what I did."
Zhao Yaqin also handed him a USB drive.
"The electronic version is in there too, high-definition. You'll need it for submission."
Lu Chen nodded and put the materials away.
For the rest of the morning, he planned to use his work breaks to start researching how to write the paper.
He dug out several past issues of the Chinese Journal of Emergency Medicine from the department's reference cabinet.
He opened the table of contents and found the case report articles.
The title format, abstract structure, how to write the case description, and how to develop the discussion section.
He read them one by one.
After reading three of them, he roughly grasped the routine.
The core of a case report is three things.
What is special about the case itself.
What different decisions you made during the treatment process.
What the basis behind these decisions was, and what implications it has for clinical practice.
The logic isn't complex.
What's difficult is how to write the operational details in a way that is both professional and clear, while also having sufficient literature support.
Lu Chen flipped through a few more references and noted down the sources of key citations.
10:00 AM.
A few patients came to the Red Zone, all routine cases.
An old lady who fainted from hypoglycemia woke up after receiving glucose.
A delivery guy who fell while riding his bike had an abrasion on his left palm; he received Debridement and bandaging.
A middle-aged man with chest tightness had a normal Electrocardiogram and Troponin levels; he was discharged after two hours of observation.
After Lu Chen finished handling these, he continued reading the literature.
Shen Xiaoning came by once in the middle; seeing him reading a journal, she leaned over and took a peek.
"Are you reading a research paper?"
"Yeah."
"That's amazing. When I was in school, I was terrified of writing papers."
"Nursing papers and medical papers are a bit different."
"They're both equally terrifying."
Shen Xiaoning stood nearby for a while, not daring to disturb him, and then quietly left.
Before leaving, she placed a candy on the corner of his desk.
It was strawberry-flavored.
Lu Chen saw it, didn't say anything, unwrapped it, and ate it.
By noon.
Lu Chen went to the Cafeteria to get food, carried his tray, and sat down in a corner.
He had just taken two bites when his phone vibrated.
It was a message from Lin Xiaoyu.
[Lin Xiaoyu: Dr. Lu! You're trending again!]
Lu Chen frowned.
Again?
He clicked on the link.
It was content from a short video platform.
The video footage was the scene from the Resuscitation Room yesterday; the camera angle was from outside the Resuscitation Room, filming through the observation window.
The image quality wasn't very clear, but one could see the general situation inside.
Director Li Sen was performing the main cavity Puncture.
Then the monitor alarmed.
Everyone became tense.
Then, Lu Chen in the video stood in front of the ultrasound machine and picked up the Puncture needle.
With one needle insertion.
The numbers on the monitor began to rise.
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
The video wasn't long, about a minute or so.
But it was edited with a good sense of rhythm and had tense background music.
The most crucial part was.
There was a caption below the video.
[My husband suddenly had heart problems yesterday and was rushed to the Emergency Department of Jiangcheng City Central Hospital. The situation was extremely critical, and the chief physicians were conducting resuscitation.]
[But halfway through the resuscitation, my husband suddenly got worse, and all the doctors were very nervous.]
[At this moment, a very young doctor stepped up and, with just one needle, saved my husband from the edge of death.]
[Later, I found out his name is Lu Chen. He's only 24 years old and is a Resident Physician!]
[My god, a Resident Physician performed an operation that even chief physicians couldn't do!]
[Dr. Lu Chen from the Emergency Department of Jiangcheng City Central Hospital, my whole family thanks you! I hope more people know about such an excellent young doctor!]
The publisher's account name was "Desheng's Wife Loves Life".
Lu Chen glanced at the comment section.
The comments had already exploded.
[Isn't this the handsome doctor who blocked those thugs last time!]
[Holy crap, it's him! The Suturing God!]
[A 24-year-old Resident Physician performing a chief-level operation? That's too outrageous.]
[Being handsome is one thing, but being this skilled? God is really feeding him success.]
[Emergency Department of Jiangcheng Central Hospital, noted. I'll go find him when I get sick in the future.]
[Can any medical student explain what Pericardiocentesis is? It sounds so terrifying.]
[To the person above, Pericardiocentesis is inserting a needle into the membrane outside the heart to draw out fluid. If done improperly, it can directly pierce the heart. It's a procedure with a very high mortality rate.]
[??? A 24-year-old Resident Physician can do this kind of procedure?]
[It's not a regular Pericardiocentesis. Judging by the description, it should be a loculated type, which is many times more difficult than the routine one.]
[I'm a Resident Trainee in the Emergency Department. Even our director wouldn't easily attempt a Puncture for loculated pericardial effusion, and this Resident Physician did it in one needle? Honestly, I don't really believe it.]
[Don't be bitter, the director himself said it. The most critical step wasn't done by him; it was done by this young doctor.]
[With this looks and this technique, he's a top-tier figure in the medical field.]
[Mom, I want to marry him!]
[Get in line, there are already eight hundred people in front of you.]
The video's view count had already exceeded two million.
And it was still rising.
The number of likes was over one hundred thousand.
The number of shares was also exaggerated.
Lu Chen put down his phone.
His expression didn't change much.
The video of him blocking the thugs last time was popular for a while and then faded; this time should be about the same.
Internet popularity comes fast and goes fast.
It didn't have any practical significance for him.
He was only concerned about two things right now.
The paper.
And how to accumulate gratitude points in the next step.
But things were clearly not as simple as he thought.
