27: Chapter 27 A Large-Scale Medical Incident Is Imminent
The siren of the ambulance grew louder, mixing with the sound of the heavy rain, like something howling outside the gates of the Emergency Department.
Lu Chen stood beside the triage desk, watching the red and blue lights growing brighter outside the gate, and took a deep breath.
The notification on the system panel still hung before his eyes.
[Mass casualty incident detected, imminent. A large amount of experience points is incoming. Host, please be prepared.]
Lu Chen silently dismissed the notification in his mind.
At a time like this, the system popping up notifications felt a bit inappropriate, like running over to someone's house when it's on fire and saying, "Hey buddy, I've got some roasted sweet potatoes here."
However, the excitement was real.
The tension was also real.
Director Li Sen stood at the very front of the triage desk, looking a head taller than usual, his voice deep as if it were coming from underground.
"Everyone to your stations, the first ambulance is entering."
As soon as he finished speaking, the doors of the Emergency Department were pushed open, and a gust of cold wind mixed with rain rushed in, followed by the sound of rolling gurneys and the shouting of emergency personnel.
The first casualty came in.
It was a Middle-aged man, in his forties, his face covered in blood.
The pant leg of his right leg had already been cut open, and his lower leg was visibly deformed.
A fracture, and an open one at that.
The white bone was protruding through the skin and flesh, and blood had soaked through the pad of the emergency stretcher.
The paramedic pushed the stretcher while shouting.
"High-speed chain collision, this is a bus passenger, open fracture of the right lower leg, vital signs currently stable, blood pressure 95/60, heart rate 110!"
Director Li Sen glanced at him, the triage tag in his hand already ready.
"Yellow Zone, Orthopedics Department, follow up!"
A young doctor from the Orthopedics Department immediately ran over, following the stretcher toward the Yellow Zone.
Lu Chen didn't move; he stood beside Zhao Yaqin, waiting for the next one.
He didn't have to wait long.
The second, the third, the fourth.
Ambulances rushed into the Emergency Department courtyard one after another, rain lashing against the vehicles, creating a misty haze, while the red and blue lights illuminated the entire entrance like a chaotic stage.
Casualties began to pour in.
"Shattered window, head trauma, blurred consciousness!"
"Severe chest pain, suspected pneumothorax, blood oxygen 87%!"
"Abdominal crush injury, blood pressure 60/40, in shock!"
"Child, seven years old, right arm fracture, crying loudly, no other visible injuries for now!"
Director Li Sen stood in the center of the triage desk, his gaze sweeping over every incoming casualty, his speed in determining life or death almost instantaneous—Red tag, Yellow tag, Green tag—triage complete.
Zhao Yaqin tugged at Lu Chen.
"Let's go, the Yellow Zone casualties are coming."
Lu Chen followed her, running toward the Yellow Zone.
Just as they returned to the Yellow Zone, the stretcher had already caught up.
"Bed 3, car accident trauma, scalp laceration combined with multiple abrasions, currently conscious, blood pressure low!" Head Nurse Fang Ying shouted from the Nurse Station.
Lu Chen walked over and directly activated the Eye of Truth.
[Eye of Truth scan complete.]
[Patient information: Male, 38 years old.]
[Chief complaint: Car accident trauma, head impact, temporary loss of consciousness followed by recovery.]
[Eye of Truth diagnosis: Frontal scalp laceration approx. 6cm, no skull fracture visible, mild concussion, fracture of the right 3rd and 4th ribs, no obvious pneumothorax in lungs, right knee contusion.]
[Danger level: Medium.]
[Current symptoms: Active bleeding from the head, low blood pressure (due to blood loss and pain stress), conscious but slightly slow to react.]
[Recommendations: Debridement and Suturing, symptomatic treatment for rib fracture, monitor vital signs, fluid replacement to correct low blood pressure.]
[Warning: Continuously monitor intracranial pressure changes; if pupils become unequal or consciousness declines again, perform immediate CT to rule out intracranial hemorrhage.]
Lu Chen had already arranged the treatment plan in his mind and turned to say to Head Nurse Fang Ying.
"Start fluid replacement, saline first, then measure blood pressure every 15 minutes."
"Get the pain from the ribs under control first; I'll handle the head wound."
Head Nurse Fang Ying responded, her hands already moving.
Lu Chen put on his gloves and began treating the scalp laceration.
This wound was much larger than the forehead laceration from this morning.
6 centimeters, and it was on the scalp.
The scalp has a very rich blood supply, and the bleeding was much heavier than the wound on the face; blood had matted the man's hair into a clump.
Local anesthesia, irrigation, hemostasis, Suturing.
Lu Chen's movements were so fast that the young Nurse beside him froze for a few seconds.
Perfect-level Suturing Technique was simply an efficiency tool in the midst of so many trauma cases.
Every stitch was fast and precise, nearly twice as fast as an ordinary doctor, yet the stitch spacing was twice as neat.
At the bed next to him, Zhao Yaqin was treating another casualty.
It was a woman, in her forties.
Her lower leg fracture had already been temporarily splinted, but there was tenderness in her abdomen; Zhao Yaqin was frowning as she performed an abdominal examination.
"Lu Chen, come over here when you're done!"
"Okay!"
Lu Chen finished with three stitches, applied a pressure dressing, and turned to walk over.
"Teacher Zhao, what's wrong?"
"I'm a bit worried about this abdomen; take a look with an examination."
Lu Chen directly activated the Eye of Truth.
[Eye of Truth scan complete.]
[Patient information: Female, 47 years old.]
[Chief complaint: Car accident trauma, abdominal impact, persistent abdominal pain.]
[Eye of Truth diagnosis: Splenic contusion and laceration, small amount of blood in the abdominal cavity; current bleeding has not reached the level of active hemorrhage, but there is a risk of delayed bleeding.]
[Danger level: Medium-High.]
[Current symptoms: Diffuse abdominal tenderness, suspected positive Rebound tenderness, low blood pressure, rapid heart rate.]
[Recommendations: Emergency Abdominal CT, consultation with General Surgery Department, closely monitor blood pressure and abdominal signs, prepare blood, prepare for emergency surgery.]
[Warning: High risk of delayed splenic rupture; if blood pressure continues to drop or abdominal pain intensifies, immediate surgical intervention is required.]
Lu Chen placed his hand on the female patient's abdomen, performed a standard abdominal examination, and then straightened up.
"Teacher Zhao, highly suspect splenic injury, there is blood in the abdominal cavity."
"We need an urgent Abdominal CT, and at the same time, we need to call the General Surgery Department to take a look; surgery might be needed at any moment."
Upon hearing this, Zhao Yaqin's expression darkened.
"I'll contact them; you go ahead and see the next one."
"Okay."
Lu Chen turned around; a new patient had already been wheeled onto the next bed.
The entire Yellow Zone was like a machine gone mad; the beds were full, and patients were still coming in.
In the hallway, temporarily added beds were also starting to be occupied.
Nurses shuttled between the beds; the sound of footsteps, instrument alarms, the crying of family members, and the groans of the casualties were all mixed together.
Lu Chen felt as if he had stepped into a meat grinder today.
But he had no intention of stopping.
Just like that, one after another, he examined them, activated the Eye of Truth.
Judged, treated, gave instructions to the Nurses, and walked to the next bed.
The system's experience point notifications kept flashing at the edge of his vision, but Lu Chen no longer had the bandwidth to look at them.
