Chapter 18: Scavenger Worm Colony

Haa...Feeling a wave of exhaustion wash over her after having dealt with the three metal legged cave spiders, Scaly moved back to the foliage where she had almost been assassinated by the metal legged cave spiders earlier before retreating back into the crack in the wall she had stayed while recovering her mana.

Given that she had just gone through an exhausting battle, she would once again have to spend some time recovering her mana. The main reason for her having no mana being the water bubble she had used to drown the last metal legged cave spider. Even if it was effective, it was simply way too draining on her mana...

As for the corpses of the three metal legged cave spiders? Scaly was not hungry and understood that it would be risky for her to drag the corpses back with her. Not to mention, she might end up attracting unwanted attention from some of the more powerful monsters inside the cave while dragging the corpses back towards her new temporary home.

I hope there aren’t any more of those metal legged spiders...

Not lowering her guard even after she had entered the small crack, Scaly cautiously observed the foliage outside.

From her perspective, the foliage suddenly seemed to have transformed into a dangerous jungle. Filled with dangerous monsters lurking just out of sight. Ready to attack her when she least expected it!

In the end, nothing happened, as Scaly spent the next two hours not daring to lower her guard. Keeping her attention focused on the foliage just outside the small crack in the rocks that she was hiding inside of.

Swish~

Having fully recovered once again, Scaly cautiously ventured through the foliage without any accidents. Soon making it to the small stream where she had hunted the salamanders and fought off the metal legged cave spiders.

Looking around, it did not take long for her to spot what little remained of the three metal legged cave spiders. At this point in time, a few small worms were doing their best to eat away what little flesh still remained on the bones...

Accidently stepping on one of the worms while making her way past the bones scattered across the cave floor, Scaly could not help feeling surprised that the small worms could actually help her grow stronger!

However, even if she killed tens of thousands of worms, it would still be less than what she would get for killing a single oversized rat from the first floor of the dungeon!

Taking another step, Scaly had no idea what to say, as she realized that she had managed to kill close to a dozen of the small worms with a simple step.

Following Scaly ending a small group of the scavenger worms, the rest of the scavenger worms began spraying some sort of liquid at her from their mouths.

What in the world are they doing...?

Feeling the liquid from close to a thousand small worms hitting her, Scaly could not help tilting her small head in confusion. Wondering what the scavenger worms were doing, as the liquid they sprayed at her did not hurt or do anything.

[Description: A small worm that feeds off the corpses of the dead. The only defensive mechanism of the scavenger worms is a small poison spray that even the weakest poison resistance can deal with. The scavenger worm normally forms colonies that ranges from numbers as small as one thousand to enormous colonies with millions! The larger colonies are especially dangerous, as the worms will begin growing larger and no longer only feast on corpses of the dead but will actively begin hunting down prey.]

Inspecting one of the scavenger worms properly, Scaly could not help shivering upon reading through the last part of the description. Luckily for her, it seemed like the colony of scavenger worms in front of her was a smaller one with only a few thousand worms in it-

Wait! Are they not spraying poison on me!?

Suddenly realizing that she was being attacked by the small worms, Scaly could not help narrowing her eyes.

How dare these small worms look down on her!

Not waiting around for long after finding out that she was under attack, Scaly directly used her small claws to kill dozens of the scavenger worms before a full-fledged war between her and the scavenger worms began. Not that the scavenger worms actually had a chance, as their poison spart attacks proved completely useless against Scaly’s level 1 poison resistance...

Bang-bang-bang!

Like this the small scavenger worm colony soon came to an end under Scaly. During the one-sided battle, her poison resistance also managed to level up and reach level 2!

Psh!

Hm? One is still alive...?

About to leave the scene of the battle, Scaly was caught slightly off-guard, as one of the scavenger worms was still alive!

However, this did not matter to her, as she directly crushed the last remaining scavenger worm.

Now I can finally begin hunting for real...

Thinking this to herself as she stared at the monsters roaming around the cave floor, Scaly could not help feeling a bit of regret over the fact that she had ended up wasting close to 15 minutes killing all the scavenger worms.

In the end, the only useful thing she gained from fighting the scavenger worms was her poison resistance reaching level 2. Outside of that, she did not even manage to get a single exp. Even with all of the scavenger worms put together!

If she wanted to get revenge on the Venom Cave Spiders and the Cave Alligator, she would have to start hunting that would actually help her grow stronger!
