19: Chapter 19 Ningtong City
Ning Tong City was located near Dayang Lake, so the scenery outside the city was completely different from Jiangkou City. Instead of the fresh scent of lake water, there was a stench like a sewer.
Tang Mo had read online that Dayang Lake had long been occupied by aquatic fierce beasts.
This was what caused the water of the entire Dayang Lake to carry the foul odor of the beasts.
Arriving outside Ning Tong City, Tang Mo noticed many more people leveling up here than in Jiangkou City.
Professional teams could be seen hunting fierce beasts almost everywhere.
Occasionally, disputes or even brawls could be seen between Professional teams over prey.
This made Tang Mo realize that in the wild, humans might be more dangerous than fierce beasts.
Tang Mo, leaving the city alone, also attracted the attention of quite a few people.
"How does he dare to leave the city all by himself?"
"No doubt he's a greenhorn who just changed classes. Heh heh, there's going to be a good show soon."
"How about we make a bet on when he'll cry for help?"
"I bet ten minutes from now."
"Ten minutes? You think too highly of these newly-classed brats. I bet he'll be crying for his mama in less than three minutes. Hahaha..."
The people in those Professional teams criticized Tang Mo behind his back without any reservation. Tang Mo didn't care at all and walked toward the jungle on his own.
"Hey, that guy actually headed into the jungle. This is great; I bet he won't last a minute before ending up in a beast's belly."
"Jie jie jie, isn't that perfect? If he's dealt with by a beast, wouldn't that be a bargain for us?"
"Forget it, how much loot can a newly-classed kid like that have? It's too dangerous to risk following him into the jungle."
"There are too many fierce beasts inside. Even if we go in together, we won't be able to handle it."
"Who said anything about fighting beasts? We'll just grab the kid's corpse and run!"
"Yeah, maybe he'll have some valuable gear."
"Even if there's nothing valuable, taking his body to the Association will earn us a hefty pension!"
According to Great Xia law, the government provides a very generous pension after a Professional dies.
"Hahaha, you're right! Boss Hai is indeed smart. This kid is practically a fat pig!"
They lowered their voices towards the end, but Tang Mo still heard them.
"I hope you won't be so blind, or I won't mind getting my hands bloody!"
After entering the jungle, Tang Mo immediately activated his Poison Barrier.
Despite the crowds outside, there were still very few people in the jungle.
As soon as he entered the jungle, fierce beasts from all around began to swarm him. Tang Mo cast his Scouting Technique.
[Red-Armored Pig]
[Level: 15]
[Strength: 920]
[Agility: 500]
[Spirit: 350]
[Endurance: 5000]
[Skills: Savage Charge (Lv10), Thick Hide (Passive)]
"Just some level 10-something beasts. I still need to go deeper."
Saying this, Tang Mo continued to walk deeper into the jungle.
"Holy crap! Boss Hai, that kid disappeared!"
"How? Could he have been swallowed whole by a beast?"
Boss Hai quickly took out his binoculars to look into the jungle, and sure enough, Tang Mo was nowhere to be seen.
By now, Tang Mo had already reached the depths of the jungle, his figure long hidden by the trees.
"Pah! Damn it, he couldn't even last such a short time. What a waste!"
Boss Hai spat on the ground and turned to leave.
Since Tang Mo entered the jungle, it was as if he had entered an ocean of experience. The kill notifications began ringing in his ears incessantly.
"This sound is much more pleasant."
Tang Mo took a long breath and glanced at his experience bar.
He saw that his experience, which was already at 70% of level 14, was growing at a very slow pace.
"As expected, these level 10 and 20 beasts can no longer provide enough experience. To level up quickly, I need to go deeper and kill beasts around level 30 or 40."
Tang Mo continued to advance into the depths of the jungle. To better gain experience, he expanded the range of his Poison Barrier once again.
Although the color of the Poison Barrier had become a solid, ink-green, Tang Mo's own vision was not obscured.
Seeing a giant, armored, crocodile-like beast charging at him, Tang Mo couldn't help but feel a chill at its speed.
What startled Tang Mo even more was that this crocodile-like beast didn't die immediately after rushing into the Poison Barrier.
Tang Mo recognized it at a glance: a level 40 beast, the Iron-Armored Crocodile.
The Iron-Armored Crocodile opened its bloody maw and lunged straight for Tang Mo's neck.
Suddenly, a massive ink-green vine extended from behind Tang Mo, binding the Iron-Armored Crocodile tightly.
However, the massive Iron-Armored Crocodile quickly broke free from the vine's restraint, and its large mouth finally bit down.
In an instant, Tang Mo was decapitated.
The Iron-Armored Crocodile tilted its head to swallow the food in its mouth, then lowered its head to finish the prey, only to find that Tang Mo had already disappeared from the ground.
It turned out that the moment the Iron-Armored Crocodile attacked Tang Mo, Body of Poison was triggered. Tang Mo transformed directly into an elemental form, becoming immune to the crocodile's physical attacks.
Before the Iron-Armored Crocodile could figure out what was happening, two purple vines extended from the Poison Barrier again and bound it.
But the Iron-Armored Crocodile had thick skin and flesh; the poisonous thorns on the Highly Poisonous Vines couldn't pierce its outer armor at all, preventing the venom from seeping in.
Moreover, with its massive size, the Iron-Armored Crocodile soon broke free from the vines' restraint.
Taking advantage of its lack of preparation, Tang Mo fired several Venomous Arrows at the crocodile's mouth and nose, which finally took effect.
Tasting the venom, the Iron-Armored Crocodile immediately felt the urge to retreat.
But it was already inside the Poison Barrier. The stacked layers of toxins were already very high; how could it possibly escape?
[Killed Level 40 Iron-Armored Crocodile, Experience +6013, Poison Damage +2, Endurance +0.01]
[Obtained Iron-Armored Crocodile Hide *1]
Similar notifications kept ringing in Tang Mo's ears.
Unknowingly, Tang Mo had reached the depths of the jungle, and his experience growth rate began to speed up.
From time to time, beasts would break through the Poison Barrier's blockade and charge in to attack Tang Mo.
But this caused no damage at all to Tang Mo, who possessed an elemental body.
In the end, those beasts could only die with resentment within Tang Mo's Poison Barrier.
After about an hour, Tang Mo successfully reached level 15.
Looking at the emptied experience bar once again, Tang Mo couldn't help but show a bitter smile.
Because after level 15, the experience required to level up would increase significantly again.
This is also a characteristic of Professionals: every 5 levels, the experience required to level up increases.
Fortunately, after level 10, for every 5 levels gained, the attribute growth for Professionals also increases.
However, the specific amount of increase depends on the individual's class attributes.
In other words, the true characteristics of a class are revealed after level 15.
