103: Chapter 103 A Cultivator Emerges from the Qin Family

On a certain peak of the Wan Jian Sect, a piercing, mournful howl rang out, startling the Disciples on the mountain to look over.

Huang Hongfang crushed the extinguished life lamp in his hand, his eyes webbed with bloodshot veins. "Men! Go investigate immediately! Find out who dared to kill my Chen'er!"

The Disciple who received the order bowed in assent. After a moment of hesitation, he still asked, "Elder Huang, regarding this matter... should we report it to the Sect Master? Senior Brother Huang Chen was sent down the mountain this time to suppress demons; I fear he has fallen victim to demonic Cultivators."

Ever since Huang Lingxiao ascended to the position of Sect Master of the Wan Jian Sect, the Elders of every peak had been replaced by Cultivators from the Huang Family.

Although the Sect's strength had declined as a result, since there were Golden Core Cultivators guarding it, the surrounding Sects and Families dared not act rashly.

"Suppressing demons? Yes! It's all because of suppressing demons!"

Huang Hongfang's rage intensified, his voice nearly a roar. "If it weren't for that idiot Huang Lingxiao insisting on sending Disciples down the mountain to suppress demons, how could my son have met such a tragic fate?!"

"You go tell that old thing Huang Lingxiao right now..."

He suddenly stood up, saying with deep hatred, "No! I will personally go and question this old thing! If it weren't for his incredibly dull decision-making, would my son have lost his life outside?"

It was all Huang Lingxiao's fault!

Suppressing demons? Exterminating demons was inherently the duty of the Great Wei. Their Huang Family had just taken control of the Wan Jian Sect, and their Origin Qi had not even recovered, yet they dispatched Sect Disciples to fight demons. This was clearly self-harming their Foundation and weakening the Sect's reserves.

Before the words fully left his mouth, the spiritual energy around him erupted.

Huang Hongfang stepped onto a small boat, transforming into a streak of light that shot straight toward the main peak.

...

Su Family, Qingyuan Market.

Ever since the incident where demonic Cultivators broke in, the Su Family had closed its doors to visitors, claiming the clan members needed a period of quiet recuperation, thus entering a rare and precious time of tranquility.

Qin Jiangmei was teaching several children Dao techniques under the pavilion where the Treasure Fish swam.

Su Xuanling and Ji Shulan were both diligently studying the Formation Jade Slips.

Only Su Xinyou was distracted. From time to time, he would use his paintbrush to tease Big Black. Seeing that Big Black ignored him, he would toss fish bait into the lake, attracting a swarm of Seven-Colored Treasure Fish to circle around him.

After getting tired of the Treasure Fish, he ran to the heavenly spirit fruit tree and gently stroked the new feathers of the three hatchlings in the bird's nest.

Just as he was having great fun, his head was suddenly struck by Su Xuanjing's hand.

"You kid only know how to play all day! Hurry up and get back to studying!" Su Xuanjing grabbed her nephew's ear, feigning anger.

"Let go of me! Grandma, help! Aunt is pulling my ear again!"

Su Xinyou screamed loudly like a pig being slaughtered as he was being pulled.

The moment Su Xuanjing let go, he immediately made a face before running back to the pavilion to seek his grandmother's protection.

Faced with her naughty nephew who was unwilling to study, Su Xuanjing felt exhausted. She had been the most mischievous among the siblings in the Family back then, but compared to this little nephew, her childhood was practically that of a model Child.

"Second Sister-in-law, why don't you discipline him at all?"

Su Xuanjing went to Ruan Ning to vent, recounting all of Su Xinyou's misdeeds.

Ruan Ning, however, covered her mouth and chuckled softly. She said gently, "You'er is only three years old, just let him be for now."

"But he still needs some discipline. If he has no interest in studying from a young age, won't he just be a good-for-nothing when he grows up?"

Su Xuanjing's eyes widened. She still spoke without restraint.

Fortunately, Ruan Ning's temperament was like Qin Jiangmei's, and she understood Su Xuanjing, so she didn't mind at all.

"I think this matter should depend on Mother's opinion," Ruan Ning said with a smile. "After all, all of you siblings are so outstanding, which proves that Mother has plenty of experience and can certainly raise You'er well."

"Mother dotes on You'er too much. Everyone says affection across generations is deep. I worry Mother will spoil You'er."

Su Xuanjing looked helpless, her gaze drifting towards the pavilion lake.

She saw Qin Jiangmei ignoring the lively Su Xinyou, only occasionally glancing at her grandson. The rest of the time, she was seriously teaching Su Xuanling and Ji Shulan, seemingly unconcerned that Su Xinyou was wasting time.

Su Xuanjing was very puzzled. Just as she was about to inquire about her mother's intentions, three figures of various sizes entered the inner courtyard.

Luo Qian bowed respectfully to everyone but did not state the visitors' purpose before stepping back.

This was because the visitor was Qin Jiangmei's paternal cousin—Qin Han!

He pulled along a six-year-old boy, his face beaming with smiles. "Sister! Great happy news! Our Family has produced a Child with a Spiritual Root!"

Qin Han eagerly pulled the boy forward. "Chuanxing, come and greet Great-Aunt-in-law."

"Greetings, Great-Aunt-in-law!"

Qin Chuanxing called out obediently, his eyes subtly scanning his surroundings, a flicker of astonishment deep in his gaze.

"This is the grandson of Seventh Uncle. He is six years old this year. By relation, he is your grand-nephew."

After hearing Qin Han's words, a dark line appeared on Qin Jiangmei's smooth forehead. She was actually a Great-Aunt-in-law?

To be honest, she didn't know much about the descendants of the Qin Family.

After marrying Su Yang, she rarely had contact with the Family. Even now that the Qin Family had become a vassal of the Su Family and Qin Han had joined the Su Clan Chamber of Commerce, it couldn't change the fact that she and the Qin Family were slowly drifting apart.

Besides her parents, she didn't care much about the rest of the Qin Family. She had her own Family, her own children and grandchildren.

"Why was the Spiritual Root only discovered when he was six years old?" Qin Jiangmei asked.

Qin Han immediately explained, "Many people in the Qin Family don't believe their children will have Spiritual Roots, so they didn't ask the Su Family for help with testing."

"I only learned about this today, so I specifically brought a group of children over for Manager Luo to test, and we discovered Chuanxing possesses a Spiritual Root."

Among the group of children, only one possessed a Spiritual Root, and it was a Pseudo Spiritual Root.

It was no wonder most people didn't have their children tested; after too many disappointments, they stopped holding out hope.

Qin Jiangmei personally tested Qin Chuanxing. He indeed had a Spiritual Root, but it was a Pseudo Spiritual Root, just like Su Xinyou's.

Frankly speaking, this level of Aptitude was worse than being a Martial Artist.

Su Xinyou had the Hunyuan Condensing True Method to refine a True Spiritual Root, but Qin Chuanxing did not. His future was destined to stop at the Qi Refinement Stage. Forcing him onto the Immortal path might not be a good thing.

"Child, if you can accept Dual Cultivation of the Dao and Martial Arts, then stay," Qin Jiangmei looked at Qin Chuanxing and said softly.

Upon hearing this, Qin Han's face showed ecstasy. He quickly pushed Qin Chuanxing's back, urging him, "Quick! Agree quickly!"

The understanding between Mortals and Cultivators was vastly different. Qin Han only knew that the Su Family rose to prominence starting with Cultivation, but he didn't know how difficult it was for a Pseudo Spiritual Root to integrate into the Cultivation World.

He only cared that the Qin Family finally had a Cultivator, and in the future, the Qin Family could also become a Qi Refining Family, achieving prosperity like the Su Family.

Qin Chuanxing did not disappoint him. After only a moment of thought, his eyes shining with longing for the future, he said with a strong voice, "Great-Aunt-in-law, I can do it!"

"Alright, then you may stay," Qin Jiangmei said.

Qin Jiangmei sighed almost imperceptibly, then followed up with a question: "Have you attended the Su Clan Academy to learn reading and writing over the years?"

"Yes!" Qin Chuanxing nodded.

Qin Jiangmei nodded slightly, called Su Xinyou over, and made him sit next to Qin Chuanxing to study the basic knowledge of Dao methods.

However, Qin Chuanxing would also need to squeeze out extra time to practice martial arts. In Qin Jiangmei's view, practicing martial arts was this Child's proper path.
