93: Chapter 93 Spirit Possession

In the courtyard, two figures, one large and one small, were meticulously carving and drawing long strings of Talismans onto a Puppet that had not yet taken physical form.

The woman had a graceful figure, with ink-black hair cascading down to her waist. Her exquisite small face was naturally radiant without any makeup, and when her cherry lips curved into a smile, her eyes sparkled like leaping stars.

A plain white robe fluttered gently in the wind, accentuating her slender waist and revealing her agile posture.

"It's a success!"

Su Xuanjing exclaimed excitedly.

Beside her, Su Xuanxiao was more reserved. Although outwardly calm, the bright glint in his eyes betrayed the turbulence in his heart.

Su Xuanjing had successfully inscribed the Talisman runes onto the Puppet. This meant she could mass-produce this new type of Puppet to distribute to everyone in the Family for use, without needing to rely on a Talisman as a medium.

They no longer needed to rely on Su Xuanjing being present to temporarily empower the Puppet with Talisman effects, as before.

In Su Yang's words, this was equivalent to 'enchanting'!

Since Su Xuanjing could enchant Puppets, she could also enchant Magical Artifacts, greatly enhancing the functionality of both Puppets and Magical Artifacts.

"Congratulations, Third Sister. Your talent in Talismans is truly unmatched."

Su Xuanxiao smiled and offered his congratulations. Having researched Puppets and Talismans with his Third Sister during this period, he deeply understood how terrifying her talent for Talismans was.

Even with the finished product right in front of him, he still couldn't comprehend how these runes could be inscribed directly onto a Puppet.

He had tried to replicate it under his Third Sister's guidance, but every attempt ended in failure.

Drawing Talisman runes required deep concentration, and the spiritual Qi infused into every stroke had strict requirements. Furthermore, Talisman paper itself was created to stably bear the runes; once the paper was removed, every stroke drawn would become extremely unstable.

Yet, his Third Sister managed to stably inject every rune mark onto the uneven surface of the Puppet.

How could Su Xuanxiao not understand? It wasn't that his steps were flawed; it was that his Third Sister's Talisman skill was too formidable. Even if she revealed the technique publicly, no one else could replicate it.

"Third Sister, are you going to try attaching spirits to Magical Artifacts next?"

Originally, Su Yang had abbreviated Su Xuanjing's technique as 'enchanting'.

However, the word 'enchant' (magic) could easily lead Cultivators to misunderstand, fearing it might cause issues, especially since the enchanted Puppets and Magical Artifacts would be sold externally as signature products of the Su Clan Chamber of Commerce.

Thus, they changed it to 'Attaching Spirits' (Spirit Possession).

Both Su Xuanxiao and Su Xuanjing felt that 'Attaching Spirits' described it quite accurately. The essence of the Talisman runes was spiritual Qi; attaching that to a Puppet or Magical Artifact was indeed attaching a spirit!

"Attaching spirits to Magical Artifacts has great potential; that will be my main focus next."

Su Xuanjing stretched, revealing her delicate figure, and said with a hint of self-mockery, "Next up, the Magical Artifacts are going to suffer again~"

In order to inscribe runes onto the Puppets, she had destroyed countless Puppets during her experiments. If the Su Family hadn't been wealthy, they truly couldn't have afforded her wastefulness.

"Ziyao refined quite a few oddly shaped Magical Artifacts that couldn't be sold. Those are perfect for Third Sister to practice on," Su Xuanxiao reminded her.

Su Xuanjing's eyes lit up upon hearing this. "That's right! Fourth Younger Brother, you are sharp. Sister is leaving now; I'll come find you to play next time."

With that, she lightly raised her plain sleeves and skipped out of the courtyard.

Su Xuanxiao chuckled to himself, thinking how decisive his Third Sister was.

She had just succeeded in attaching spirits to a Puppet. Anyone else would surely be immersed in joy, perhaps holding a celebration first before moving on to study attaching spirits to Magical Artifacts.

"I need to work hard too, otherwise, I will end up being the weakest in the Family and dragging everyone down."

Su Xuanxiao secretly cautioned himself against complacency.

Big Brother had talent in the Way of the Sword, Second Brother in commerce, and Third Sister in Talismans. Fifth Sister had talent in Beast Taming.

Only he was ordinary. The only thing he could show off was lightning techniques, which was primarily due to the advantage of his Spiritual Root.

He already had some ideas regarding the Five Thunders True Law that Father had guided him on. It was time for him to enter secluded cultivation for a period!

...

Su Xuanjing, having just collected a stack of Magical Artifacts from the Artifact Refining Room, walked with light steps past the Pavilion Lake.

Schools of Seven-Colored Treasure Fish swam in the lake, creating streaks of colorful rainbows that made the entire lake surface dazzling and vibrant.

In the past, Father and Mother would usually Cultivate, play music, or sip tea under the pavilion, while Big Black would soak in the lake, taking pleasure in startling the Treasure Fish.

Today, however, neither people nor the ox could be seen.

So, Su Xuanjing crossed the arched bridge to find her younger sister near the heavenly spirit fruit tree.

As soon as she entered the second-tier isolation formation, she heard the chirping of birds. Father, Mother, and her younger sister were gathered under the heavenly spirit fruit tree.

"What's going on? Did those three bird eggs hatch?"

Su Xuanjing exclaimed and hurried over.

As expected, what greeted her eyes were three featherless hatchlings squatting inside broken eggshells, chirping while nibbling on the shells.

Big Black was licking the three small ones with its long tongue, its eyes full of curiosity for its new companions.

Su Xuanling used chopsticks to pick up a few spirit insects caught from the spirit field and fed them to the hatchlings' mouths.

The hatchlings finished the eggshells and then swallowed the spirit insects. They happily flapped their wing buds, which hadn't grown feathers yet, and suddenly cocked their little tails, leaving behind a blob of white droppings.

"According to the Spirit Taming Art, newborn Yao Beasts are easiest to form a spirit contract with. Father, Mother, Third Sister, do you want to form one?"

Su Xuanling turned her head and asked softly.

"Yes! Yes! I want to raise the fattest one!"

Su Xuanjing was the first to respond, her eyes shining as she pointed at the plump hatchling in the middle.

Su Yang smiled and shook his head. "Your mother and I will pass. Let the remaining two be for Ling'er."

He looked towards his younger daughter, who was holding a hatchling, with a touch of curiosity. "Ling'er, can you understand what they are saying right now?"

Su Xuanling nodded slightly, gently stroking the hatchling's bare head with her fingertip. "I can understand a little. It's mainly because they are too young and their language ability is still weak; they can only express simple meanings like hungry or cold."

Su Xuanjing, standing nearby, was already impatiently leaning forward, urging, "Quick! Ling'er, help me form a spirit contract with this little chubby one!"

Su Xuanling understood. She put down the hatchling in her hand, silently recited an incantation, and a faint spiritual light appeared on her fingertip. She skillfully executed the Spirit Taming Art, guiding Su Xuanjing to form a spirit contract with the chosen hatchling.

Su Yang and Qin Jiangmei got up and went to the heavenly spirit fruit tree to build comfortable nests for the three newborn hatchlings.

The spirit contract formation was easily completed. Su Xuanjing picked up the little chubby bird, her face beaming. "From now on, you'll be called Chubby. Any objections?"

"Chirp chirp chirp~"

The hatchling cried out anxiously. Through the spirit contract, she could sense that Chubby was strongly objecting to the name.

"Objection overruled! From now on, you are Chubby!"

"Not happy?" Su Xuanjing raised an eyebrow with a sly smile, carrying an undeniable sense of playfulness. "How about this? Then I'll give you the surname Su as well. How about Su Pang Pang (Fatty)?"

The hatchling kept chirping, but Su Xuanjing had definitively settled on the name and refused to change it no matter what.

Su Xuanling also named her two pet birds: the larger one was named 'Big Green' and the smaller one 'Little Green'.

The naming abilities of the two women were truly difficult to compliment.
