Chapter 26 A Life Not Destined to Die

Their own residential compound... was it a Taliban liaison office?

What kind of equipment is all this?

Wang Zeyu's mouth was wide enough to stuff a fist into. He and Wu Yang paced around behind Zhou Yan, trying to find the "armory" that Zhou Yan had hidden behind his back.

"I told you we should have asked Big Brother for the link, but you wouldn't do it! I told you this bag's features were awesome!" Wu Yang said, pointing excitedly at Zhou Yan's backpack.

Wang Zeyu ignored this blockhead; he had no mind to think about such things anymore.

Although Li Meng was somewhat surprised, his reaction was calmer; he reached out a finger and calmly pushed up his glasses.

However, his continuously trembling finger betrayed the inner turmoil he felt.

After all, this scene was too shocking.

He was now wondering if his "Big Brother" was a Transformer.

That flamethrower had just appeared out of nowhere! He swore he hadn't misseen it!

Zhou Yan's various incredible displays made Zhang Yajing's pretty face flush red, and she was filled with excitement!

He was truly no ordinary person!

"Ugh!" Just as everyone was staring blankly at Zhou Yan's back, a retching sound suddenly rang out from behind them, scaring the group until their faces turned pale.

They turned around abruptly and discovered a girl wearing yellow bear pajamas lying on the floor of the Fire escape landing.

She was lying on her side, continuously spitting out water; she must have swum over underwater during the chaotic battle just now!

After all, they had already built a long Floating Bridge, and the distance to the furthest point was the same whether it was to Zhou Yan's building or Building 17.

The water level at Zhou Yan's building was very awkward; it had just submerged the roof of the 5th floor but hadn't reached the windows of the 6th Floor.

This girl must have swum in from under the water through a 5th-floor window.

Wang Zeyu called his girlfriend, Zhang Dongxue, to bring a set of clothes to cover the girl, saying:

"You were fated not to die! It's lucky that we were trying to catch fish and had smashed all the windows from the 4th floor upwards; otherwise, you would have drowned!"

The girl kept retching; she was terrified that she would start to mutate from drinking the outside water.

While retching, she reached out and pointed in the direction of the Fire escape.

"What do you mean?" Wang Zeyu looked at the security door in confusion, even poking his head out to look left and right.

The girl was extremely anxious, but couldn't speak due to coughing and retching.

"Mer... ugh... mer... mermen!"

"Holy crap, why didn't you say so earlier!" Wang Zeyu made a huge leap and bolted straight toward Zhou Yan.

Wu Yang quickly dodged to the side of the fire door, raising the fire axe in his hand; if anything came out, he would strike it with an axe!

Zhou Yan picked up the AR-15 at his feet and aimed at the fire door.

One second. Two seconds. Three seconds.

"Splash!"

Three figures, emitting a nauseating, earthy, fishy stench, burst out from the water in the Fire escape!

They lunged toward Zhou Yan and the others, baring their fangs and brandishing their claws!

"Bang!" "Bang!" "Bang!"

Three shots, three mutant mermen. Perfectly resolved.

"Cough... cough... they're gone! They're gone! There were only these three, the others are all dead!"

The girl lay weakly on the ground, saying softly and breathlessly.

"Just because you say they're gone doesn't mean they are," Zhou Yan said irritably.

Carrying his gun, he hurried forward and took the opportunity to touch the little bit of fabric remaining on their bodies three times!

It was the first time Zhou Yan had observed mermen from such close range. He discovered that the mutation level of these three mermen wasn't that outrageous; they must have mutated recently...

The scales on their bodies didn't possess any impact resistance either; they weren't as hard as he had imagined, feeling more like the scales of a newborn fish—soft and bouncy...

[super blind box + 1]

[super blind box + 1]

[super blind box + 1]

"Holy crap! It's actually a super blind box! This time it's definitely going to drop gold!"

Zhou Yan looked in surprise at the three blind boxes in his mind, which were emitting a golden radiance.

These boxes even have special effects, damn it!

Such blind boxes definitely aren't simple!

"Quick! Quick! Don't just stand there! Do you have any rope here? Can you make a device to help me fish back those corpses on the water surface???" Zhou Yan said anxiously, looking at the corpses drifting back and forth on the water.

The girl who had just escaped death sat leaning against the wall, her gaze fixed on Zhou Yan, filled with an indescribable meaning...

Zhou Yan was very anxious.

Are those corpses on the water outside?

Those are supplies! Those are weapons!

That is his future!

"Yes! Yes! Don't worry, Big Brother! I'll go get it for you!" Wang Zeyu trotted all the way and ducked back into the room.

Before long, he ran back with a bundle of white woven rope.

"I found this in the house, and this too... This is a gas stove rack; it can be made into a hook to snag the corpses on the water..."

Wang Zeyu gritted his teeth, using all his might, but unfortunately, the rack didn't change at all.

Zhou Yan sighed and reached out to take the metal rack.

With a slight exertion of his hands, the three legs of the entire rack were bent into the shape of hooks.

Wang Zeyu gave Zhou Yan a thumbs up.

"Big Brother is truly awesome!"

This rack was clearly made of some kind of high-temperature resistant alloy material, yet in Zhou Yan's hands, it was like modeling clay...

Wu Yang was stronger, so he was responsible for throwing the hook and pulling it back, while Wang Zeyu was responsible for observing the water surface and directing the direction.

With Wu Yang's pulling and tugging, the entire water surface was truly indescribable...

It was hard to see clearly what kind of creature's internal organs and intestines the two of them had dragged back...

They could only focus on hooking back the relatively intact merman corpses.

After a lot of effort, they finally dragged back one merman.

The two were extremely excited and went to Zhou Yan to claim credit.

They saw Zhou Yan reach out and touch the merman's clothes, then lift his foot and kick the merman corpse that was stuck in the window back into the water.

Wang Zeyu: "..."

Wu Yang: "..."

Zhou Yan: "Continue!"

On the other side, Li Meng led three girls, holding small iron rods they had gotten from who knows where, poking around at the merman's belly.

They wanted to study it, but were worried they couldn't withstand the poison on its body...

The girl who had escaped death leaned weakly against the wall, draped in a black coat, coughing violently and spitting out mouthfuls of murky river water.

The girl raised her pale face, her gaze passing through her messy hair and locking firmly onto the tall figure not far away—Zhou Yan was examining the flamethrower in his hands with curiosity, his eyes focused and sharp.

It was he who had fired the gun to save her.

The relief of having survived the disaster surged like a tide, instantly crushing her tightly strung nerves.

Her nose soured, her eye sockets quickly turned red, and large teardrops mixed with the water stains on her face rolled down; this wasn't because of fear, but because of an indescribable sense of gratitude and excitement.

The girl wrapped the blanket tighter, took a deep breath, mustered her courage, and staggered toward Zhou Yan.

Her steps were still a bit unsteady, but her gaze was exceptionally firm.

Walking up to Zhou Yan, she raised her head, tears blurring her vision again, her voice raspy and trembling from the previous choking on water and excitement, yet she tried hard to speak clearly:

"Tha... thank you... for saving... me just now..."

She bowed deeply, her body swaying slightly from weakness and emotional agitation.

"If it weren't for you... I would definitely be dead by now..."

She straightened up and looked up at Zhou Yan; in those large, tear-filled eyes, there flickered an undisguised admiration, gratitude, and a trace of shy infatuation... and also, that barely visible trace of... fear!
