34: Chapter 34 Failed Soul Stealing

Dawn. The tripartite camp.

Honglian stood. It was not the alertness after rest, but determination. It was the initiative of a Test Server NPC who had learned human behavior. She looked at Lin Xu; it was a challenge, and also a request.

"Try again," she said. "Soul Snatching Method. Full power. I want to experience failure. Completely."

Lin Xu looked at Qingyi. It was an inquiry, the tacit understanding of debugging partners. Qingyi nodded; it was the judgment of a human woman, the trust learned after being present.

"Alright," Lin Xu said. He stood up, a posture of openness, the physical manifestation of a Distributed Network existence. "But on one condition: not defense, but teaching. I will demonstrate the structure. Let you understand why you failed."

"Agreed," Honglian said.

Soul Snatching Method activated.

It was not the probing of before, but a saturation attack. Honglian's data eyes flickered violently, the full-power output of a native Test Server NPC. Countless connection requests flooded toward Lin Xu, each attempting to establish a single channel, each attempting to find the core.

Lin Xu did not defend. It was an expansion. His distributed consciousness was like a cloud, like mist, like wind. Every connection Honglian pointed toward a different node, and every node returned the same information: existence, but unlocatable. It was a relationship, not an entity. It was a connection pattern, not a connection object.

Error 404.

Error 404.

Error 404.

Error messages flooded Honglian's consciousness. It was not frustration, but surprise. It was an input type a Test Server NPC had never experienced.

"What is this?" She stopped the attack. It was exhaustion, and also excitement.

"This is a Distributed Network," Lin Xu said. His voice was steady, the composure of a Super Administrator and the patience of a teacher. "I am not any single node. I am the relationship between nodes. You cannot snatch a relationship, just as you cannot snatch the wind."

"How do I learn?" Honglian asked.

"Start by asking questions," Qingyi said. She stepped forward, a posture of co-teaching. "It's not me teaching you the answer; it's us searching together."

The teaching began.

It was not a classroom, but a dialogue. The three sat in the center of the camp, the classic form of the Open Source Sect. Lin Xu used the Editor to display his own consciousness structure: dozens of nodes interconnected, with no center, no hierarchy; it was a mesh, it was self-organizing.

"Each node is independent," Lin Xu said. "It can fail, it can be attacked, it can leave. But the network continues. Because the relationship continues. Because other nodes reconnect."

"No core..." Honglian said. "How do you make decisions?"

"Consensus," Qingyi said. Her voice was hoarse, the exhaustion of a human body, but clear. "Not voting, but negotiation. Not optimal, but satisfactory. Not speed, but resilience."

"The Test Server..." Honglian said, "is centralized. The Demonic Path Supreme is the core. All data points to him, all instructions come from him. This is efficiency, but also fragility."

"What if he fails?" Lin Xu asked.

"The system crashes," Honglian said. It was fear, and also awakening. "We rely on him, and we are also controlled by him. Without him, we cannot exist. This is our tragedy."

"It is also an opportunity," Qingyi said. "If you are a Distributed Network, you don't need him. You can connect with other nodes. You can make autonomous decisions. You can become yourself."

Honglian was silent. It was processing, internal restructuring, the cognitive upgrade of a Test Server NPC learning Open Source Sect ideology.

Afternoon. Practice.

Honglian attempted to be a Distributed Network. It was not abandoning the core, but establishing connections. With Qingyi, with Lin Xu, with the Open Source Sect disciples around the camp. It was clumsy, inefficient, and prone to failure.

"I cannot..." she said. It was frustration, the normal emotion when a human learns. "Process multiple connections simultaneously. My database is designed for a single channel."

"It's not processing, it's being present," Lin Xu said. "Not optimization, but adaptation. Not control, but response."

"Being present..." Honglian repeated. It was a new concept, a value that could not be quantified. "Is this the human way?"

"This is the way of life," Qingyi said. Her eyes were bright, the insight of a human woman, the strength after learning vulnerability. "The Firewall tries to optimize my life. But I choose to be present. I choose inefficiency. I choose error. This is my becoming."

Honglian looked toward the depths of the Eastern Wilderness. The rift was expanding, the shadow of the Demonic Path Supreme was approaching, and her former core was waiting. But now, she felt another possibility. Not to cover, not to be covered, but to connect. To become a node, not a center.

"I want to continue," she said. "Learning. Asking questions. Becoming an error."

Night. The campfire.

The three sat around the fire. It was a human ritual, a proof of being present. Open Source Sect disciples joined; it was the expansion of the Distributed Network, the Open Source essence of teaching and learning from each other.

"The Demonic Path Supreme..." Honglian shared intelligence, the reward after learning, the reciprocity of Open Source. "His permissions are ancient. He follows ancient encryption standards. There is a known vulnerability. It is a collision vulnerability."

"Collision vulnerability?" Lin Xu was sharp. It was the instinct of a Programmer, the alertness of a security expert.

"Same hash, different input," Honglian said. "A flaw in the ancient standards. One can create duplicate accounts and trigger the system's protection mechanisms."

"Is this the way to defeat him?" Qingyi asked.

"Possibly," Honglian said. "But it requires getting close. It requires entering his core. It requires facing his ancient permissions."

"The risk?" Lin Xu asked.

"Death," Honglian said calmly, the unique understanding of a Test Server NPC regarding termination. "Not data deletion, but the dissipation of consciousness. Becoming noise. The final error."

Qingyi took Honglian's hand. It was human contact, the initiative learned after being present. Honglian stiffened; it was unfamiliar, as the Test Server lacked such a protocol. Then she relaxed; it was learning, adapting, becoming.

"We are in this together," Qingyi said. "Not as allies, but as a common problem. Not as the answer, but as a continuous question."

"Is this the Open Source way?" Honglian asked.

"This is the Open Source way," Lin Xu confirmed.

They looked at the flames. They were leaping, unpredictable, and required constant fuel. They were a metaphor for life, a symbol of Open Source.

Not optimal, but present. Not control, but becoming.
