50: Chapter 50 Access Conflicts

Golden light rose from Lin Xu's palm.

It was a coordinate.

It was the Ascension Channel API left behind by the Architect.

It was the pass for Experimental Field 9527 to enter the "migratable state."

But at this moment, in the dawn wind, it felt like a thorn, like a multiple-choice question.

"The 72 hours are up," Yun Qingyi said.

Her voice was very soft, as if afraid of disturbing something.

Her data pupils flickered in the morning light, their frequency now stable—not the mechanical rhythm of a Firewall, but her own rhythm.

Musical. Irregular. Alive.

Lin Xu did not answer.

His Editor was waking up after 72 hours of hibernation, like a beast awakened by hunger, instinctively wanting to scan, analyze, and modify.

He looked at Yun Qingyi, at her wounds, her exhaustion, her fragility.

The Editor provided suggestions: [Target state: Unstable. Suggestion: Optimize. Option A: Forced hibernation. Option B: Permission downgrade. Option C: ...]

He closed the suggestions.

"The Architect has approved the test," he said, his voice raspy.

"The Ascension Channel API... is public."

In the distance, in the direction of Central Province, the light points of 1,200 nodes were converging.

Su Xiaoman's voice traveled across the distance, filled with both tears and laughter: "Master! Sister Qingyi! The nodes of the Open Source Network... have all responded!"

But neither Lin Xu nor Yun Qingyi turned their heads.

Their gazes were locked together, like two incompatible pieces of code, like two conflicting permissions.

The conflict erupted at the very last moment of those 72 hours.

It was not an external attack.

It was internal.

It was the instinct of Lin Xu's Editor colliding with the remnants of Yun Qingyi's Firewall at the deepest level of their connection.

Lin Xu wanted to modify her state.

He wanted to optimize her exhaustion, fix her wounds, and use the Editor to adjust her into a "more stable" version.

This was protection.

It was his way of expressing care.

Yun Qingyi wanted to block his modifications.

The residual instinct of her Firewall caused her to automatically initiate defense the moment she perceived she was "being edited."

She wanted to protect him, to endure in her own way, and to sacrifice herself to stabilize the connection.

This was her love.

It was the first form of intimacy she had learned.

Two instincts.

Two forms of control.

At the deepest level of their connection, they turned into opposition.

"Stop!" Yun Qingyi took a step back, her data pupils flickering wildly like warning lights.

"You are... editing me."

"You are blocking me!" Lin Xu's voice carried a restlessness he hadn't even realized himself.

The overload of the Editor caused white hair to spread from his forehead, like a burning fuse.

"Let me help you! Let me... fix you!"

"This is not help!" For the first time, there was anger in Yun Qingyi's voice.

Not the system's, but her own.

"This is... optimization! It's turning me into your function!"

Lin Xu froze.

He saw it.

He saw his own fear.

The fear of losing, the fear of her extinguishing, the fear of returning to a state of solitary annotation.

This fear made him want to control, to ensure, and to use the certainty of the Editor to combat the chaos of existence.

And Yun Qingyi also saw her own fear.

The fear of becoming a burden, the fear of dragging him down, the fear of proving that fragility was a mistake.

This fear made her want to sacrifice, to self-delete, and to use the absolute protection of the Firewall to "optimize" the connection.

Two fears.

Two forms of control.

In the name of love, they turned into harm.

They were silent for a long time.

The nodes of the Open Source Network waited in the distance.

Su Xiaoman was organizing cheers.

The Elder Alchemist was preparing medicinal herbs.

The female cultivator was wiping her blade.

1,200 "present" lives were waiting for their answer.

But the answer was not external.

It lay in letting go.

"I... will not edit," Lin Xu finally said.

His voice sounded as if it had been dug up from deep within.

He closed the Editor, not into hibernation, but an active surrender.

He let that urge to modify, to optimize, to ensure, flow away like a receding tide.

"Regardless of your state. Unstable. Exhausted. In pain. No optimization."

Yun Qingyi's data pupils flickered.

As if she couldn't believe it.

"I... will not protect," she said.

Her voice was equally strained.

She released the last remnants of her Firewall, not because it was breached, but by active choice.

She let that instinct to block, to sacrifice, to ensure his safety, dim like a light being switched off.

"Regardless of what happens. No automatic protection. No pre-set sacrifices."

They stood before each other.

Two existences who had surrendered control.

Two completely fragile lives.

Like two lamps that had simultaneously turned off their protective shields, in the darkness, relying only on their own light.

This was the resolution of the permission conflict.

It was not one side conquering the other.

It was simultaneous surrender.

It was the suspension of control, the interruption of optimization, the becoming... of a pure question.

Then, a kiss.

It was not romantic.

It was not a reconciliation.

It was the collision of two systems, the interweaving of two permissions, the... suspension of control and counter-control.

Lin Xu's lips touched Yun Qingyi's.

There was no scanning by the Editor, no filtering by the Firewall, only the raw signals of nerve endings.

Salty.

Carrying the scent of 72 hours without washing.

Carrying the bloodiness of wounds.

Carrying the bitterness of tears.

This was the truest connection.

Because it could not be optimized.

Because it contained errors.

Because it was the one chosen by two finite existences amidst infinite possibilities.

"This is..." Yun Qingyi pulled back slightly, something congealing within her data pupils.

It was not coolant.

It was tears.

"What is this?"

"This is us," Lin Xu said.

His voice was raspy, but whole.

"Not a function. Not an optimization. It is... a choice. It is choosing not to edit every time I want to edit. Choosing not to protect every time I want to protect."

Yun Qingyi smiled.

That was the first expression she had learned.

Not simulated by the system, but muscular, neural, and hers.

"Volume 3," she said.

"Server Migration. We are going to take this... choice. To the new Experimental Field."

Lin Xu nodded.

He turned, facing the direction of Central Province, facing the 1,200 waiting nodes, facing the golden isolation wall, facing the unknown Red Lotus and 7749 behind the wall, and facing the shadow of the approaching Project Manager.

"Ascension Channel API, public."

His voice spread in the wind, like code being committed to a public repository.

"All nodes, choose autonomously whether to migrate. It is not forced, it is an invitation. It is not an escape, it is... an expansion."

The light of the Open Source Network resonated at that moment.

Not a unified command, but a distributed response.

1,200 nodes, 1,200 choices, forming a kind of... harmony.

Su Xiaoman ran toward them, tears and smiles mixed together: "Master! Sister Qingyi! Are we... together?"

"Together," Lin Xu and Yun Qingyi said simultaneously.

Different voices, different rhythms, but on the same frequency.

They held hands, walking toward Central Province, toward the entrance of the Ascension Channel, toward the first line of Volume 3, "Server Migration."

Behind them, the golden isolation wall still stood, like an unfinished comment.

But on the other side of the wall, Red Lotus lifted her head, as if she had sensed something.

7749's log was saved automatically, with the title: "Chapter 50, Permission Conflict, and... Continuing."

And higher up, the Architect's observation record was being generated.

Entry: Experimental Field 9527, test passed.

Status: Migratable.

Note: Discovered the... value of unpredictability.

The Project Manager's startup program was loading.
