208: Chapter 208 Zhao Hu

After giving his instructions, Su Mingyuan glanced in the direction of the medical team, and the five of them had already set off.

Walking at the very front was Elder Zhou of the medical team, who was in his early forties, had served as a battlefield doctor for fifteen years, and had followed them into three different worlds.

Following behind him were four medics with medical packs on their backs and empty hands, not even carrying a self-defense dagger.

Su Mingyuan had told them not to scare anyone, so they had taken off all their weapons.

That group of people wearing animal skins crouched at the edge of the open space, about one kilometer away from the mecha array.

Seeing someone walking towards them, a few of the younger ones instinctively shrank back, while two heavily injured ones lay on the ground without even raising their heads.

The burly man reacted the fastest. He bent down to pull the iron saber out of the mud, holding it in his hand with the tip pointing down without raising it.

He stared at the five people walking over for a few seconds.

Black hair, yellow skin, and features similar to his own.

The clothes were unfamiliar and colorful, but it was clear they were not animal skins.

They were humans.

After thinking of this, he pressed the tip of the saber down another inch.

Those iron giants of the other party had killed the Level 3 Demon Wolf from thousands of meters away; if they really wanted to make a move, there would be no need to walk over.

Zhao Hu still had that much judgment.

Elder Zhou of the medical team stopped about five meters away from the burly man.

He glanced at the wound on the left shoulder of the burly man.

That was cut by the shield wind blade spat out by the Demon Wolf; a large patch of flesh was torn open, the animal skin clothing was soaked through with blood, and the edges of the wound had already begun to turn black.

If this wound was not treated, it would not last two days in this wild environment before becoming infected.

Lao Zhou crouched down, opened the medical pack, took out disinfection cotton and bandages, waved the items in his hand toward the burly man, then pointed at his shoulder and made a gesture meaning "I will help you with it".

The burly man stared at the white things in his hand for two seconds.

He did not recognize them.

What was a cotton ball? What was a bandage? And what was that transparent liquid in the bottle?

He had not seen a single one of them before.

But he did not dodge.

He stuck the iron saber into the muddy ground beside him and turned his injured left shoulder toward Lao Zhou.

Lao Zhou leaned in and first used scissors to cut open the animal skin clothing around the wound.

The burly man lowered his head to look at the scissors and narrowed his eyes—the blade of those scissors was brighter than any ironware he had ever seen, and cutting animal skin was as effortless as cutting paper.

Then, the alcohol cotton ball wiped against the wound.

"Hiss—"

The shoulders of the burly man twitched, two veins on his neck bulged, but he gritted his teeth and made not a single sound.

He clenched his back teeth and watched Lao Zhou wipe the white cotton ball back and forth over the wound. The blood stains on the wiped area were cleaned away, revealing the bright red flesh underneath.

Then Lao Zhou sprinkled a layer of medicinal powder onto the wound.

The burly man instantly felt a coolness coming from the wound, and the throbbing pain felt as if it had been suppressed by something.

After the bandage was wrapped around, the burly man tried moving his shoulder twice.

His left arm could be raised, and it did not hurt much when raised halfway.

He lowered his head to look at the white bandage on his shoulder, then looked up at Lao Zhou, and the expression on his face changed.

His gaze towards Lao Zhou changed from the previous vigilance to a very simple curiosity, the kind that asked, "Your thing is quite useful, how did you make it?"

Lao Zhou smiled at him and patted his uninjured shoulder.

The burly man was stunned for a moment, as if he was not quite used to this form of contact.

Lao Zhou tried to speak: "What... is your name?"

"Zhao Hu." The burly man replied with two words.

Lao Zhou was somewhat surprised that these indigenous people actually spoke Daxia language.

Their accent was very heavy, resembling lines from a costume drama, dragging out the tone of each word long and hard, but he could indeed understand it.

The two people looked at each other for two seconds, both seeing the same surprise within the eyes of the other.

Zhao Hu spoke first: "What kind of people are you?"

The voice of Su Mingyuan came through the earpiece of Lao Zhou: "Tell him we came from over that door."

Lao Zhou said so accordingly.

After listening, Zhao Hu turned his head to glance at the golden glow of the portal in the distance and did not pursue the question.

His attention was quickly drawn away by something else.

In the distance, that row of forty-four-meter-high mechs was lining up in the open space, their blue-and-white visual light sources flashing in the sunlight like sixty pairs of eyes patrolling the surroundings.

Zhao Hu stared at the mechs for several seconds, then turned back to look at Lao Zhou, his gaze moving back and forth between Lao Zhou and the mechs twice.

He lowered his voice, and his tone became serious.

"You... are servants of those giants?"

Lao Zhou did not react in time.

Zhao Hu continued: "I am not looking down on you—being able to act as servants for such giants definitely makes you extraordinary people. I want to ask, do those giants of yours... still take in people?"

Su Mingyuan was in the command vehicle, hearing it clearly through the earpiece.

He almost laughed out loud.

This burly man regarded the mechs as living creatures.

In his cognition, those forty-four-meter-high steel giants were some kind of powerful creature, a Super Giant capable of killing a Level 3 Demon Wolf in just a few minutes, while Lao Zhou and these people were the attendants of the giants.

The burly man now wanted to join them and risk his life for the giants.

Listening in the earpiece, Su Mingyuan could not help but twitch the corner of his mouth.

He told Lao Zhou not to explain for the time being and to continue treating their injuries.

Lao Zhou looked at Zhao Hu and said: "Let us talk about joining us later; deal with your wounded first."

"Talk about it later." This meant there was no refusal.

Zhao Hu noticed this point.

His eyes lit up and he did not ask further, but his entire posture changed.

Previously it was vigilance, but now he was putting on airs, straightening his waist and slightly raising his chin like he was in an interview, afraid that the other party would feel he was not qualified enough.

The four medics had already scattered, treating the wounds of the hunting team members one by one.

Their movements were very fast: alcohol disinfection, medicinal powder for hemostasis, bandage wrapping—the whole process taking less than two minutes per person.

The most severely injured person in the hunting team was a young man with a fractured right lower leg. The medic applied a splint and a pain relief injection for him. When the injection was given, the young man was so scared his face turned pale, but after the needle went in, the speed at which the pain disappeared made his eyes widen.

Zhao Hu squatted nearby and watched the whole process.

He watched the white cotton balls, transparent liquid, thin bandages, and slender needles in the hands of the medics—every single thing was something he had never seen before.

Healing wounds in Cang City only had two methods: plastering herbal medicine on them, or using red-hot iron to cauterize and stop the bleeding.

Compared to these things before his eyes, it was crudely outrageous.

"What are these white strips of cloth called?" Zhao Hu pointed at the bandage and asked, "They are easier to use than our herbs."

"Bandages." Lao Zhou said.

"Bandages." Zhao Hu muttered it over in his mouth and remembered it.

Su Mingyuan watched the monitoring footage in the command vehicle, and after confirming there was no danger, he had the medical team bring Zhao Hu over so he could talk to these people face to face.
