260: Chapter 260 Fierce Battle Against the Silver-Maned Beast
Five-twenty-three, South Rift Valley Entrance.
Chen Rong's mecha walked out of the formation and stood at the edge of the valley entrance.
The morning light slanted in from the east, illuminating only the upper half of the stone walls on both sides of the canyon, while the bottom of the valley was still dark. The stream gleamed with a trace of white light, and everything else was shrouded in shadows.
He maximized the magnification of the visual System in the cockpit and glanced down at the valley floor.
Seven or eight hundred Horned Wolves lay flat on the gravel beach, forming a grayish expanse.
In the distance, Iron-backed Pigs were rooting in the mud by the stream. The huffing and puffing sounds could not reach up, but mud spatters could be seen flying up.
Chen Rong opened the cockpit hatch.
The outside wind poured in, carrying the unique dampness of the bottom of the rift valley and the earthy, fishy smell seeping from the cracks in the rocks.
He flipped out of the cockpit, landed on the shoulder armor of the mecha, stood for two seconds, and glanced down.
The valley wall had a slope of about seventy degrees, and the rock surface was wet, covered with moss and some nameless vines.
He jumped down directly.
A Third-Order Martial Artist's body was not afraid of this height.
He tapped his toes on the protruding rock surface of the stone wall to gain momentum. With every step he took, a small piece of the rock surface shattered, and pebbles fell down, rattling sharply against the rocks at the bottom of the valley.
The pack of Horned Wolves heard the movement first.
The closest few raised their heads, perked up their ears, and stared with grayish-green eyeballs at the thing running down the stone wall.
Every time Chen Rong took a step, tiny electric arcs flashed under his soles. The blue-and-white light flickered on and off on the rock surface, and the sound of gravel being crushed was mixed with a sizzling current sound.
The closest Horned Wolf flared its nostrils twice, pinned its ears back, squeezed a short whine from its throat, and turned around to run.
The rest followed, hundreds of Horned Wolves surging and scattering toward the north and south ends, the sound of paws scratching gravel blending into one piece.
The Iron-backed Pigs ran even earlier; those rooting groups turned around and dashed off, their grayish-black backs hunching up and down as they disappeared into the darkness at the bottom of the valley.
When Chen Rong landed, the gravel under his feet was trampled into the mud, and the splashing stream wet his shoes.
The bottom of the valley was colder than above. The wind poured along the canyon, hugging the ground and blowing his trouser legs backward.
He stood straight and looked ahead.
More than five hundred meters away, that protruding large rock was still there, and the Silver-maned Beast on top of the rock was still there.
After the valley bottom emptied, Chen Rong noticed that the Silver-maned Beast's eyes were open.
He didn't know when they had opened; perhaps it had woken up from the moment he stepped onto the stone wall, lying down and watching the entire process of the Horned Wolves fleeing in scatter.
The amber vertical pupils faced his direction without any look of panic, simply watching and staring at Chen Rong.
Then it stood up.
Visually estimated, the shoulder height was five meters, and the body length was sixteen meters.
Chen Rong's right hand raised, his five fingers spread open.
Blue-and-white electric arcs began to dance between his fingertips, and the sizzling sound was clearly audible in the quiet valley bottom.
Seeing Chen Rong's ability, the Silver-maned Beast's vertical pupils contracted slightly.
Then, it moved.
Zhao Hu was right; this thing's speed was indeed fast.
But it was not so fast that Chen Rong could not see it.
The figures of Chen Rong and the Silver-maned Beast disappeared from their original places almost simultaneously.
The Silver-maned Beast's speed was a streak of silver light, and Chen Rong's speed was a blue-and-white lightning arc.
The two lights collided in the middle of the valley floor.
The sonic boom bounced back and forth in the canyon twice. A patch of moss on the stone wall was blown off by the pressure wave, gravel flew around like marbles, and the stream was pushed apart to both sides by the shockwave, exposing the bottom of the riverbed.
At the location of the impact point, a pit two or three meters deep appeared on the gravel beach.
The Silver-maned Beast rolled out from the other end of the pit, sliding more than ten meters on the gravel before stopping, its four claws digging out four deep grooves.
After just one round of tentative attack, its right front leg was broken.
The Silver-maned Beast slid more than ten meters out of the gravel before stopping, supporting the ground with three good legs while its right front leg drooped. The shoulder joint area had collapsed, and it slipped whenever it stepped on the ground.
It tilted its body and glanced at Chen Rong.
It didn't rush over again.
It had been a hunter all its life and knew when to chase and when to run.
The human before it had caught its full-strength blow and in turn crippled one of its legs.
Enough, there was no need to try a second time.
It must escape.
Supporting the ground with three legs, it turned around and bolted north.
Even with a lame leg, the Silver-maned Beast's speed was still not slow. Its silver figure bounded across the gravel beach at the bottom of the valley, pulling away over a hundred meters in a few seconds.
Chen Rong did not chase.
He raised his right hand, palm facing forward, and his five fingers brought together.
Electric arcs surged from his fingertips, condensing into a wrist-thick blue-and-white beam of light that shot out from his palm and struck the lower back of the Silver-maned Beast.
At a distance of over one hundred and fifty meters, the beam had almost no delay.
The Silver-maned Beast's body suddenly stiffened, its hind legs lost control, and its entire lower half slammed into the ground. Momentum dragged it to plow a trench across the gravel beach, with gravel and mud spilling to both sides.
It was still struggling, its front legs desperately scratching the ground trying to get up. The bone spurs on its back flashed wildly, and Spiritual Qi surged outward from within its body, attempting to force the lightning out.
Chen Rong had already arrived.
With the speed of a Third-Order lightning-attribute Martial Artist, one hundred and fifty meters was a matter of the blink of an eye.
He landed beside the Silver-maned Beast, a ball lightning already clutched in the palm of his left hand.
Electric arcs darted randomly across the surface of the blue-and-white light sphere, and a buzzing sound rang in the ears of the Silver-maned Beast.
The Silver-maned Beast turned its head, its amber vertical pupils locking onto Chen Rong's eyes at close range.
Its mouth opened, and a low whimpering sound came from its throat, not sounding like a threat, but more like a sound of resignation.
Chen Rong pressed the ball lightning onto the top of its head.
White light burst out.
Lightning poured in from the top of the head, traveling down along the skull, charring the Meridians, blood vessels, and muscles entirely.
The Silver-maned Beast's body tightened into a bow, its four legs kicking straight simultaneously. The last bit of silver light on the bone spurs went out, its muscles twitched violently a few times, and then it collapsed completely onto the ground.
From the moment Chen Rong made his move until the Silver-maned Beast fell, it was less than twenty seconds in total.
In the command vehicle, Zhao Hu had been standing all along, his hand resting on the back of the chair and his mouth open without closing.
The Silver-maned Beast that made Cang City hunters turn pale at the mere mention of it was dealt with by Chen Rong in just twenty seconds.
Su Mingyuan's expression didn't change much. He stared at the screen for two seconds and pressed the communication button.
"Clean up the rift valley, the first echelon enters."
Zhang Dabiao acknowledged in the channel, and a hundred mechs began to move toward the valley entrance.
Su Mingyuan turned off the communication, leaned back against the chair, and glanced at Tao Zhe.
Tao Zhe wrote a line of text on his tablet: "Top-tier Third-Order Silver-maned Beast, soloed by Chen Rong, time taken: nineteen seconds."
Su Mingyuan didn't say anything, his gaze returning to the screen.
At the bottom of the valley, Chen Rong crouched beside the corpse of the Silver-maned Beast and reached his hand into its chest cavity to feel around.
He pulled out something.
About the size of two adult fists, silver-white, with fine patterns flowing on the surface, it felt slightly warm when held in the hand.
Chens Rong said into the communicator: "Brother Su. Good luck, the first Third-Order Yao Beast already has a Yao Dan inside its body."
