142: Chapter 142 Green Light

Chen Mo paused in the middle of stuffing a skewer of grilled chives into his mouth. He turned his head to look at Xiao Wan's round, pitch-black, seemingly innocent big eyes for a moment, and suddenly understood in his heart:

Don't let Xiao Wan's current innocent appearance fool you. When he first encountered it, it had the same look when it excitedly suggested killing all the players to absorb their Souls and replenish the main god points. It would be strange if a creature like that knew what a conscience was.

Chen Mo explained casually: "A conscience is a person's moral bottom line. People with a conscience are good people."

A string of blue data flickered in Xiao Wan's eyes, as if it were pondering Chen Mo's words. It quickly reverted to pitch-black pupils and said, as if relieved: "That's good, that's good. Xiao Wan isn't a human anyway, so it doesn't matter if I don't have a conscience."

Chen Mo: "..."

Xiao Wan: "Then when they say you have a conscience, Master, does that mean they are praising you for being a good person? Then why don't you look happy, Master?"

Chen Mo: ...

He was actually quite happy today; otherwise, he wouldn't have ordered so much barbecue and a can of ice-cold beer. Firstly, it was because the players had finally left the Novice Village, and he wanted to see how they performed in their first adventure. Secondly, he was secretly hoping that the players would die a few times in their fierce battles with monsters, contributing some fantasy points so he could continue recruiting new players and expanding the map to increase game content.

The monsters in the game were all designed by Chen Mo himself. Although they were not hand-crafted one by one but generated in batches by setting key parameters, he still had a good idea of the general strength of each type of monster. He would not make the monsters' stats so strong that they would instantly kill players upon meeting, nor would he make them too weak to serve as experience packs for players. This could actually be seen from the two Wild Dogs the players had encountered one after another. The first one, a [Hungry Wild Dog], although lacking in HP and attack power, was quite agile in its movements and reaction speed. If it had not been for Sharp Tooth knocking the Wild Dog unconscious at a critical moment, even with Tang Yao's high attack power, which could kill a Wild Dog in two strikes, she would have inevitably been injured and lost health. As for the one currently being sat on by Hu Gualing, it was an elite among Wild Dogs. If it were players like Xiao Niao, even three or five of them attacking at once would likely suffer heavy losses before taking it down. If Tang Yao had faced it alone, she would likely have had to use Resurrection once to win. But, unfortunately for the monster, there was a freak like Hu Gualing among the three. He started off by trading injury for injury with the monster, paying the price of having a piece of flesh bitten off his right hand to break one of the Wild Dog's canine teeth. Afterwards, he pinned the Wild Dog down so it could not fight back. Therefore, after the battle, he only lost a dozen or so HP. Not to mention consuming fantasy points for Resurrection, after applying the juice of euphorbia humifusa, he recovered to full health in a minute or two, no different from before the battle.

If that were all, it would be fine. Although Chen Mo did not earn any main god points, the Soul energy after the monster died was still within the Main God Space. He could gather it up, knead it, and regenerate a monster. Although he did not make a profit, he did not lose anything either, and at least the players' combat experience was improved.

However, it had to be said that there was a probability of loot dropping after a monster died. This loot also required the consumption of main god points to generate. And unlike the monster itself, once this loot dropped, it was in the players' hands. Unless the players actively discarded or destroyed it, there was no way to recycle it into main god points like a monster corpse.

The first Wild Dog that Tang Yao and the others encountered was fine; it only dropped a normal dog tooth, the value of which could be ignored. But this second Wild Dog actually dropped three light orbs at once, one of which was a green light orb worth at least several points!

This meant that the players had only fought their second minor monster since leaving the village, and Chen Mo, this Apprentice Main God, had not earned a single main god point; in fact, he had even lost several points!

This made him unable to be happy inside, even while eating barbecue and drinking ice-cold beer!

"Huh, there are two light orbs this time! I told you my luck was better than yours!" After his wounds healed, Hu Gualing immediately thought of the loot. Before even getting up, he noticed there were two light orbs this time—one on the Wild Dog's corpse and one on the ground nearby. It seemed two items had dropped, and he could not help but feel proud.

Tang Yao was closer to the gray light orb on the ground. She bent down to pick it up and took a look. The interest on her face was immediately replaced by an expression of disdain, and she tossed it to Hu Gualing: "It's even more trash than that dog tooth from before. If you like it, you keep it."

Hu Gualing caught it and saw that it was the half of the canine tooth he had broken earlier.

[Broken Dog Tooth: This is a piece of a tooth from a Wild Dog. From its quality, one can tell it is sharp, but unfortunately, it is broken and cannot be used as a Material for crafting equipment. However, as a trophy witnessing the killing of a Wild Dog, perhaps someone might be willing to collect it.]

"Sigh, another useless thing, and it's of Crude quality too. I'll keep it for now and list it in the Trading House when we get back to the village." Hu Gualing clearly put the broken dog tooth into his backpack with some disappointment.

The second light orb was emitting a faint white light, indicating that this item was of Normal quality, which gave Hu Gualing a glimmer of hope: "Xiao Niao, come over here and get this thing down."

Upon hearing this, Xiao Niao curiously looked at the place Hu Gualing was pointing to and discovered a faint white light on the back of the Wild Dog's corpse. He immediately frowned, a bad premonition arising in his heart: "What is this?"

Hu Gualing: "I think this item is likely the Wild Dog's fur. It can't be picked up directly. Didn't you learn Skinning and Leatherworking? Come over and peel the dog skin off." As Hu Gualing said this, he reached out and grabbed at the white light orb, but sure enough, he grabbed nothing.

Xiao Niao frowned as he looked at the Wild Dog corpse in front of him, which, apart from the white light orb, looked exactly like a real Wild Dog. His scalp immediately went numb. The local people of Shengang did not have many taboos and would eat anything, but asking him to personally skin a Wild Dog... Just thinking about the bloody scene made him shiver. He quickly shook his head and said: "No, it's too scary."

Hu Gualing was amused by his timid appearance and teased him on purpose: "This is top-quality Material. If you peel it off and make a pair of real leather shoes, not to mention how comfortable they will be to wear, just the speed at which you can run will definitely be faster than the straw sandals on your feet... Wait, no, why are you wearing cloth shoes? Where did you get them?"

Hu Gualing had intended to tease Xiao Niao, saying that if he made a pair of leather shoes to wear, he would definitely be able to run faster than the novice straw sandals when encountering danger, but only then did he notice that Xiao Niao was actually wearing cloth shoes...
