Chapter 153: A Slightly Awkward Miracle
After leaving the buffet restaurant...
Xiao Shiyi took the lead and headed to nearby police stations, hospitals, and fire departments.
He intended to gift these 100 bottles of serum to the "warriors" on the front lines.
When Jiang Zhe reached the entrance, he also hailed a taxi and headed directly to the nearby military hospital.
He felt that gifting the two bottles of Genetic Serum to the soldiers who protected the country was the most secure option.
Doing so would likely prevent any unwarranted tracking in the future.
"We're here."
The driver announced.
Jiang Zhe pulled a 100-yuan bill from his pocket, handed it over, and stepped out of the car.
The military hospital was guarded by young soldiers in uniform carrying rifles. Seeing Jiang Zhe wearing a mask and a black windbreaker, they couldn't help but inspect him more closely.
"300 Hospital is a restricted military and residential area. Please show your ID!"
Jiang Zhe looked the young man in the eye and pulled out the fake ID he used for traveling. "I'm here to visit a relative."
The guard looked at it for a moment and saw the surname [Xu] on the fake ID. It just so happened that a Second Lieutenant named Xu had been shot and brought in for emergency treatment earlier that day.
"Go on in!"
Jiang Zhe secretly celebrated his good luck.
Walking into the hospital lobby, he took a quick glance around. There weren't many people; only a few military family members were sitting in the lobby waiting and keeping warm.
He walked up to the front desk where a female soldier in a green uniform was on duty and asked casually, "I'm looking for someone named Xu."
This was a lie he had made up on the spot.
In such a large hospital, there had to be at least one person named Xu, right?
Besides, it didn't matter who drank the serum, as long as they were a soldier protecting the country.
Sure enough, the female soldier at the front desk sized Jiang Zhe up. Seeing his upright posture and then checking the security cameras to see that the guards had let him in, she assumed he was a relative of Soldier Xu who wasn't on the best of terms.
After finding a justification for herself, the receptionist asked Jiang Zhe, "How are you related to him?"
"A distant relative. We're not on great terms, but for the sake of family, I had to come."
"I see. His name is Xu Youzhen. He's in the emergency room next to Room 401. Go ahead; he won't be able to argue with you anymore. He doesn't have much time left."
"Thank you!"
Jiang Zhe turned and walked toward the elevator.
...
Soon, he arrived at the Intensive Care Unit on the 4th floor.
As soon as he arrived, he was stunned.
The hallway was lined with high-ranking officials in green uniforms, about a dozen of them. There was one with a one-star badge and others who looked like high-level officers.
Seeing this scene, Jiang Zhe was dumbfounded. "This lie has spiraled a bit too far!"
"Xu Youzhen? Could he be a descendant of that Ming Dynasty official with the same name?"
He remembered there was an official in the Ming Dynasty named [Xu Youzhen] who also happened to be from Su City.
Oh boy, I'm done for; I've lied my way right into a military headquarters.
Jiang Zhe forced himself to remain calm and nonchalantly found a seat, listening to the conversations of the powerful figures nearby.
"He was perfectly fine, how could this happen?"
"What else could it be? He's young and impulsive. Xu Youzhen thought that becoming a Second Lieutenant meant he could save people from fire and water. As soon as his leave started, he went with his narcotics police friend to make an arrest. They didn't catch the guy, and he ended up getting shot in the spleen by those thugs. He still hasn't passed the critical period."
"Wait, why did the narcotics police pick someone from our army?"
"They didn't pick him. It was Xu Youzhen's friend from school. Xu Youzhen originally wanted to have a drink with him, but the narcotics officer was in the middle of a pursuit. He was already negotiating with the suspect when a phone suddenly rang, alerting the suspect. And then..."
Listening to the conversation, it was clear these people were Xu Youzhen's family members and his superiors.
He finally understood the situation.
Xu Youzhen was a Second Lieutenant in the local military district.
Taking advantage of his leave, he had returned to Su City for a blind date and to relax for a few days.
He didn't know his old classmate had become a narcotics officer and had called him.
Who would have thought the narcotics officer had forgotten to turn off his ringtone? He was discovered by the criminals during the mission and shot in the abdomen; he was currently being rescued.
Hearing the gunshot, Xu Youzhen immediately drove to the vicinity. After finding his old classmate and sending him to the hospital, he was consumed by rage and went after the criminals alone.
After hearing the whole story, the situation was indeed quite shocking.
"You're not even on duty, and without any backup, why would you go after criminals alone?"
"The key is that those people had guns..."
"I really don't understand this kind of brotherhood."
Jiang Zhe thought to himself that while the brotherhood was hard to grasp and the actions were reckless, the intent was worth saving.
Just as Jiang Zhe was lost in thought, a middle-aged military officer walked in and stood before him.
The man looked down at him and asked, "Who are you? I don't recall anyone like you being notified!"
Hearing this, Jiang Zhe looked up. The man was upright and exuded an air of integrity. He was slightly stout, and looking at the star on his shoulder—one star—he was a Major General.
Jiang Zhe looked him in the eye, stood up calmly, took two bottles of Genetic Serum from his waist, and handed them to the man.
"I've heard about your son's deeds."
"It was quite reckless."
"But his spirit is worth commending."
"The water in these bottles can save your son."
"I seek no reward, only trust. It's up to you whether you dare to let your son drink it."
After saying that, Jiang Zhe turned and walked away nonchalantly in front of the dozen or so people.
The man he had spoken to was, in fact, the patient's father, a Major General.
Watching Jiang Zhe leave, the Major General was momentarily speechless. A stranger handing over water—this behavior was incredibly strange no matter how you looked at it!
As if by instinct, he shouted toward the hallway, "Stop him!"
At those words, several armed soldiers in black blocked Jiang Zhe's path.
"Friend, please stop!"
One of them, with his hands in his pockets, gave a slight nod as a warning.
Jiang Zhe couldn't help but sigh. "I knew this would look weird. I shouldn't have been so blunt."
At this, Jiang Zhe turned back to face the group of people who were highly wary of him. Just as he was about to say something, his powerful hearing picked up the sound of the machines in the Room 401 monitoring room falling silent through the wall.
It was the sound of the patient's heart stopping!
"Major General, I know this is sudden and quite abrupt."
"But you might as well wait. In a moment, the surgeon will walk out of the operating room and announce your son's death."
"At that time, you can see if the water's effect is real."
"You bastard!!!"
Hearing this, the Major General's face was full of wariness. He was filled with suspicion, disbelief, and even found the situation utterly absurd!
In the middle of the night, a person suddenly appears. He doesn't even lie and say he's a friend of his son, but instead hands over two bottles of water and claims they can save his son?
No one in their right mind would believe that!
The key was, couldn't you have just told a lie and said you were my son's friend? That would have worked, and there wouldn't be all this trouble!
Major General Xu's expression was complex and he was speechless, completely unable to fathom what Jiang Zhe was up to!
Just as his thoughts were in a mess, a "ding" sounded as the emergency room light went out.
Everyone, led by Major General Xu, turned instantly and looked over with concern.
The emergency room door was pushed open, and a middle-aged chief surgeon looked at the family and bowed apologetically. "I did my best!"
As soon as these words were spoken, the already heavy atmosphere became even more somber. The women on the scene burst into tears.
Taking advantage of this opening, Jiang Zhe quietly retreated, leaving the scene of trouble entirely.
Major General Xu stood frozen in place. He heard the sorrowful murmurs around him and watched as his son was wheeled out of the operating room, covered with a white sheet.
In that instant, his brain went numb.
His son had come back for a blind date, only for this to happen. He himself had rushed here from the base overnight...
Damn it, why did this have to happen?
Suddenly!
He remembered the words of that stranger.
Water... saving people!?
At that moment, his male bodyguard stepped forward and whispered, "Major General, the man has already run off."
Major General Xu turned and saw that Jiang Zhe had indeed disappeared from the crowd.
"Major General, what should we do now?" The bodyguard pointed at the two glass bottles of water in his hand. "Should I take these for testing?"
"There's no time. Send someone to follow him. The key is that young man... I don't know what his deal was, but he said this water could save people. I don't know if it can save someone who's already dead..."
"Major General, don't take the risk. What if he's a criminal and that's some unknown liquid? What if it's corrosive..."
"To hell with it! Dammit, what is with tonight? First, this damn son of mine goes drinking with a classmate and then tries to be a hero by chasing a criminal alone—who does he think he is? Then some stranger shows up saying this water can save him. For heaven's sake! More nonsense has happened today than in the last few decades of my life."
Perhaps out of sheer agitation, Major General Xu's face was flushed with anger. He didn't care about the consequences anymore.
"Just give it to him, I don't care what kind of water it is! If it's some chemical, then being destroyed is his own damn fault!"
"This... Yes, sir!"
The bodyguard took the water, twisted off the cap, and ignoring the protests of others, poured the contents into Xu Youzhen's mouth.
Seeing this, his wife quickly pushed the bodyguard aside and turned to scold Old Xu in a rage.
"Are you crazy, Old Xu? Our son is already gone, and you still believe a stranger's words?"
"What kind of water can save a life? He's dead, and you still believe a stranger and desecrate our son's body?"
"Do you have any conscience left..."
Before she could finish, a young soldier on the scene widened his eyes and cried out, "Holy crap!"
"What? What happened?"
"See for yourselves!"
The young soldier pointed at the hospital bed.
Everyone looked over at the sound.
They saw Xu Youzhen suddenly snap his eyes open. Steam was rising from his body, and the gunshot wound was scabbing over and healing at a speed visible to the naked eye.
This scene completely transcended everyone's understanding!
Three words!
Back from the dead?
Looking at his son's innocent expression...
Old Xu was filled with shock. "This!!!"
The bodyguard's mouth was open wide enough to fit several eggs. "Holy crap, is this the start of a Spiritual Awakening?!"
The mother covered her mouth, her face full of disbelief as if she had seen a ghost.
As for the chief surgeon nearby, he was so frightened he sat right down on the floor. "How is this possible? He was dead. How did he wake up after a bottle of water? A miracle... a miracle. Is this a miracle?"
Everyone was in a state of shock, completely forgetting the revived Xu Youzhen for a moment.
They all simultaneously thought of Jiang Zhe in the black windbreaker.
Earlier, they thought he was there to cause trouble, but who would have thought he was there to deliver a life-saving medicine.
In an instant, Jiang Zhe's image was shrouded in an indelible layer of mystery in the eyes of the leaders, military officials, and even the bodyguards and soldiers present!
Xu Youzhen checked his wounds with a look of confusion. "Wasn't I shot and killed? And where are the injuries on my body? Could it be that I transmigrated into someone with the same name?"
"Mom? Dad? I might not be your son. I was just chasing a criminal and got shot."
"I'm so sorry for taking over your son's body!"
For a moment, Xu Youzhen hadn't processed everything and blurted these words out without thinking.
*Slap!* The sound of a hand hitting a face rang out.
Old Xu snapped out of his shock and quickly barked, "If someone hadn't brought you back from the dead, you'd really freaking think you transmigrated. Let's see if you dare to act on your own and go in solo next time!"
