37: Attack on the Skeleton Veterans 2
"Shut up!" Dark Lis screamed, her scarlet eyes almost spitting fire, "How dare you peek at my private letters!"
"Not only did I read them, I made many copies." Big Bone said calmly, "By now, the entire Demon Race front line should know that their esteemed Princess Your Highness..."
"...is busy writing love letters to a human hero!"
This was a lie; Big Bone had not spread the letters, but it needed to provoke Dark Lis to make her show a weakness.
As expected, Dark Lis completely lost her reason: "Kill him! Immediately!"
Twelve Shadow Assassins disappeared simultaneously, and the next moment, they stabbed at Big Bone from all directions.
In its past life, Big Bone could have handled three or four at most. But now...
It didn't even move.
"Scram." A single word, accompanied by the pressure of the Devil King Qin Jiuge's Origin, spread out like a physical force.
The twelve assassins seemed to have crashed into an invisible wall, all flying backward and slamming heavily onto the ground.
The weaker ones among them turned directly into black smoke and dissipated.
Dark Lis widened her eyes: "Th-this, what is this power?"
"Power bestowed by the Devil King." Big Bone walked toward her step by step: "To clean up the scum within the Demon Race."
"No... You can't kill me! I am the old Devil King's daughter!" Dark Lis retreated in terror, "Father won't let you get away with this!"
"When His Majesty the Devil King knows everything you have done, he will only thank me." Big Bone reached out to grab Dark Lis's neck.
But just then, a holy light suddenly erupted from Dark Lis's chest. A Light-element Amulet!
Big Bone was knocked back two steps, and Dark Lis took the opportunity to activate a teleportation scroll, her figure beginning to blur.
"Trying to run?" Big Bone snorted coldly, its bone hand grasping into the Void Realm.
That strand of the Devil King Qin Jiuge's Origin power transformed into black chains, instantly wrapping around Dark Lis and forcefully interrupting the teleportation process.
"No—" Dark Lis screamed in despair.
"An amulet given to you by your lover?" Big Bone crushed the Light-element Amulet, "How ironic, a Demon Race princess actually relying on human Light Magic to save her life."
"Karl will avenge me!" Dark Lis gritted her teeth, "He is the strongest Holy Knight, you will die a miserable death!"
"Rest assured, I will go find him." Big Bone tightened the chains, "But before that, you must first pay the debt for the undead of the Demon Race."
"Wait! We can talk!" Dark Lis finally panicked, "What do you want? Power? Wealth? I can give them all to you!"
"Even... even I can recommend you to Karl," "The human side needs experts like you..."
"Recommend me to Karl?" Big Bone sounded as if it had heard the most ridiculous joke, "And then, just like you, be killed with a single slash after being used up?"
The chains tightened abruptly, and Dark Lis let out a painful moan. But Big Bone did not kill her immediately; instead, it turned toward the door: "Come in, all of you."
Shattered Bone, Twin Horn, and other Demon Race warriors rushed into the hall, and seeing the bound Dark Lis, they all wore complex expressions.
"General, the guards outside have all been controlled." Shattered Bone reported. "Very good."
Big Bone threw Dark Lis onto the ground, "People of the Demon Race, look at this princess's true face."
"For the sake of a human man, she was prepared to betray us all."
"He is lying!" Dark Lis struggled and shouted, "It is Big Bone who wants to usurp the throne! He has controlled you all!"
Some of the Demon Race showed hesitant expressions. Big Bone did not argue but instead directly activated a hidden Spell on Dark Lis. It was a tracking mark, connecting to the distant human territory.
"What is this?" The Twin Horn demon sensed the Light-element magic fluctuation within the mark, and its expression changed.
"This is a mark placed on her by Philys, the eldest princess of the Kingdom of Glorious Light." Big Bone explained: "Once Dark Lis successfully betrays the Demon Race's intelligence," "this mark will guide the human army to attack our weak points directly."
At this, even the personal guards most loyal to Dark Lis wavered.
"Princess... did you really..." A Shadow Assassin asked painfully.
Dark Lis knew it couldn't be hidden anymore and suddenly laughed crazily: "Yes! I did betray you!" "So what? The Demon Race is destined to perish!"
"Karl said that as long as I help the humans destroy the Demon Race, he will marry me!" "We will become heroes, admired by ten thousand people!"
The hall was deathly silent. The last trace of hesitation in the eyes of all the Demon Race warriors turned into cold killing intent.
Big Bone looked at the demons: "According to the laws of the Demon Race, what is the punishment for betraying the race?" "Death!" The demons roared in unison.
Dark Lis was finally afraid: "No! Don't! I am a princess! You cannot..."
Big Bone raised its bone hand, and the Devil King Qin Jiuge's Origin power condensed into a black spear in its palm. "This spear is for all the Demon Race compatriots who died because of you."
The spear thrust out, piercing Dark Lis's heart. The Demon Race princess widened her eyes, and the light in them gradually faded. Until her death, she stared in the direction of the human territory, murmuring "Karl."
Big Bone withdrew the spear, and Dark Lis's body turned into black smoke and dissipated. "My first wish, completed." Big Bone thought silently to itself.
Shattered Bone knelt on one knee: "General, what should we do next?"
Big Bone turned to the demons, its voice spreading throughout the hall: "Although Dark Lis is dead, the human threat remains." "Philys, the eldest princess of the Kingdom of Glorious Light, is the true mastermind behind all this." "And we cannot let that Holy Knight Karl, who has killed countless of our Demon Race, go either!"
It paused, blue flames burning in its eyes: "From today on, we will take the initiative to attack." "Not for aggression, but for survival." "To tell the humans, the Demon Race will never submit!" "The Demon Race will never submit!" The demons raised their weapons high, their roars shaking the sky.
Big Bone knew this was just the beginning. Dark Lis's death would soon alert the human side, and Philys would surely adjust her plans. But this time, it was no longer that Skeleton Veteran who was kept in the dark. It was the executor of the Devil King's will, the vengeful soul of the Demon Race.
"Shattered Bone, reorganize the troops; in three days, we will raid the human outpost." "Twin Horn, send spies to infiltrate the human territory," "I want to know every move Philys and Karl make." "Everyone else, prepare for war." "The real battle starts now."
... Three days later, at the Demon Race border, the human outpost "Shield of Glorious Light."
This fortress was built of white stone, with the flag of the Kingdom of Glorious Light flying from its spire, appearing out of place under the Demon Race's unique purple-red sky.
The fortress commander, the young Holy Knight apprentice Roderick, was standing on the watchtower, complaining with dissatisfaction: "Why was I assigned to this godforsaken place?" "There isn't even a decent enemy."
His adjutant, a veteran, said cautiously: "My lord, the Demon Race has been active frequently lately," "We received reports that there are abnormal energy fluctuations near Shadow Castle..."
"Abnormal energy?" Roderick sneered, "What kind of waves can those skeleton racks stir up?" "My father said that it won't be long before we can completely wipe out the Demon Race territory," "By then, this will be the Kingdom's fifth province."
The veteran wanted to say more but held back. He had participated in battles against the Demon Race and knew how troublesome those "skeleton racks" were. But this commander of noble birth clearly wouldn't listen to advice.
"Alright, I'm going to practice my swordsmanship." Roderick waved his hand, "Call me if there's a situation... though it's impossible for there to be any situation."
He had just turned around when a piercing alarm sounded suddenly. "Enemy attack! Enemy attack!" Roderick turned back abruptly, only to see a massive, black army of the Demon Race surging toward the fortress on the horizon.
Leading them was an exceptionally tall skeleton riding a skeletal warhorse, holding a black spear in its hand that emitted an ominous glow in the dim light.
"Pr-prepare to engage the enemy!" Roderick's voice trembled slightly, but he still pretended to be calm. The soldiers in the fortress hurriedly took their positions, archers climbed the walls, and mages began chanting defensive Spells.
Big Bone raised its spear, and the Demon Race army stopped three hundred meters in front of the fortress. "Humans!" Its voice was amplified by magic, spreading throughout the entire fortress, "Surrender the fortress, and you will be spared if you surrender."
Roderick gathered his courage and stood on the wall: "Arrogant undead! Do you know who is guarding this fortress?" "I am Roderick Glorious Blade, son of the commander of the Order of the Glorious Knights!" "If you know what's good for you, hurry back to your graveyard!"
Big Bone tilted its head: "Glorious Blade? Never heard of it." A burst of laughter erupted from the Demon Race army.
Roderick's face flushed red: "You, you dare to insult the Glorious Blade Family! Archers, fire!" A rain of arrows poured down, but Big Bone merely raised its bone hand, and a black energy shield appeared out of thin air, blocking all the arrows.
"It seems you have chosen to resist." Big Bone said in a calm tone, "Then don't blame me for being impolite." It leaped off the skeletal warhorse and walked alone toward the fortress gate.
"Is he crazy?" Roderick couldn't believe it, "He wants to attack the fortress alone? Mages, blast him with Fireball Spells!" Three mages cast Spells simultaneously, and fireballs whistled as they smashed toward Big Bone.
Big Bone didn't even dodge; the Devil King's Origin power automatically protected it, and the fireballs were annihilated the moment they touched it. "This is impossible!" The mages exclaimed.
Amidst everyone's horrified gazes, Big Bone walked to the fortress gate and punched out. The gate, forged from refined steel and reinforced with enchantments, was blown away like paper, smashing into the courtyard along with a dozen soldiers behind it.
"Attack." Big Bone ordered calmly. The Demon Race army surged into the fortress like a tide. The battle, or rather the slaughter, had begun.
Roderick finally realized the severity of the situation, but he was unwilling to run away, as that would stain his Family's honor. He drew his longsword, leaped from the wall, and went straight for Big Bone. "Die, monster!"
