10: I trust you
Yang Ming did not want to make Yang Yi too uncomfortable.
He whispered, "How about I let my son follow you?"
"Does your wife agree?" Yang Yi asked.
The corner of Yang Ming's mouth twitched.
He gave a dry laugh.
"I am the master of my household. He listens to me."
Yang Yi smiled slightly, just about to refuse.
Yang Ming suddenly shouted at his son not far away, "Son, come here."
The son was very obedient and broke free from his mother, wanting to go over.
But after running just two steps, he was dragged back by his mother.
Yang Ming's wife smiled at Yang Ming, "Why let the child go over?"
"He is so young and doesn't understand anything; he might offend the Family Head."
Yang Ming raised an eyebrow and scolded impatiently, "Why do you have so much to say?"
"Hurry up and send the child over."
Yang Ming's wife held the child's shoulders tightly, refusing to let him go, and said nothing.
Seeing that they were unwilling to let the child come over, Yang Yi said to Yang Ming, "Forget it."
Afterward, he asked again, "Who else is willing to believe in me?"
The crowd looked at each other, but for a moment, no one stepped forward.
Actually, a few children had wanted to go over earlier, but because of the scene Yang Ming's wife made, they didn't dare to anymore.
Yang Ming's wife's status was different; she was, after all, Yang Ming's wife, the person who shared his bed.
Why wouldn't she let her own child go over? She must know that Yang Yi didn't have the ability.
Yang Yi was very disappointed. He already had four people and was just one short, but he couldn't manage to find the last one.
He couldn't just force someone to follow him. Although doing so wouldn't be a problem, it wasn't the result Yang Yi wanted.
Just as he was frowning, a small head suddenly poked out from outside the courtyard.
The clothes on the upper half of his body were tattered, making him look like a beggar, and there was a trace of grease on his mouth, as if he had just stolen something good to eat.
He raised a pair of dark, small hands, and his crisp voice spread throughout the entire courtyard, "Family Head, I believe in you."
"Can I stand behind you?"
Everyone's gaze turned in unison to the child at the entrance. The child was six or seven years old, looking pitiful, thin, weak, and sallow.
"You may," Yang Yi said indifferently.
The child was overjoyed and ran towards Yang Yi, but fell to the ground halfway there.
After getting up, he didn't even care about the dirt on his body and kept running. When he reached Yang Yi, he was already panting, his little face flushed.
"Stand behind me," Yang Yi said. The child stood obediently behind Yang Yi.
Yang Yi turned his head to look at Yang Ming, his face showing slight displeasure, "The Yang family needs to be properly reorganized."
This remark made Yang Ming's expression change. Several Elders in the courtyard trembled all over and lowered their heads in shame.
This child was a member of the Yang family, yet lived such a hard life; he must have been bullied within the Yang family.
This was not the first time Yang Yi had seen this. The woman who had given birth to a child was the same, also oppressed by the Yang family.
He didn't know how Yang Ming managed the Yang family, and why such situations kept occurring.
Yang Ming was overwhelmed with shame and whispered in his own defense, "There are too many things to handle in the Family."
Yang Yi waved his hand, interrupting him, "Do not explain to me. I only want results."
"If I see similar situations again, don't blame me for investigating to the end."
Leaving these words behind, Yang Yi took the five children and left.
In the courtyard, everyone whispered, "With just these five children, it's hard to achieve anything great."
"Do you think the Family Head will give these children some terrifying medicine to briefly boost their strength?"
"Maybe. I think besides this method, there is no other way."
"Stop talking nonsense. Mind your own business." An Elder coughed heavily and walked away slowly.
Yang Yi brought the five children back to his own courtyard.
The five children stood in a row. They were all malnourished. Although they stood straight, they swayed back and forth whenever the wind blew.
"How is life in the Family?" Yang Yi asked casually.
The last child who chose Yang Yi grinned and whispered, "Not very good."
"People bully us every day."
"Why do they bully you?" Yang Yi asked with a smile.
The child tilted his head and said pitifully, "I don't have parents, so they bully me."
"Where did your parents go?" Yang Yi asked.
The child said, "They died for the Family."
These few simple words touched Yang Yi deeply. They died for the Family, yet their children suffered humiliation from the Family.
"From now on, no one will bully you again." Yang Yi smiled faintly.
He had people prepare food and place it on the stone table in the courtyard. Yang Yi let the children eat first, intending to talk to them after they were full.
The children seemed to have never eaten such delicacies. Although they were afraid of Yang Yi, they couldn't care about anything in the face of the food and began to devour it.
There was a large table of food, and Yang Yi didn't eat a single bite; the children ate it all.
After finishing, the children realized that Yang Yi hadn't eaten anything yet and lowered their heads in shame.
"I'm sorry," the youngest child whispered. "We ate it all."
Yang Yi laughed out loud and patted his little head, "It's okay."
"I eat these things every day. Tonight, I will have them sent over to you again. Eat as much as you want. Eat for as long as you like; there is plenty."
After a pause, he said, "Why did you choose to believe in me?"
The children fell silent. The youngest child raised his head slightly, his innocent voice ringing through the courtyard.
"No reason. You are the Family Head, following you must be good."
Yang Yi shook his head with a smile. They didn't believe he could raise them to a higher Realm; it was entirely because their own lives were too bitter. They felt that being by the Family Head's side could change their fate or life, which was why they were willing to follow him.
Even so, it was better than that other group. Yang Yi laughed heartily, "You will feel fortunate for your decision."
"How is your Cultivation?" The children lowered their heads in shame.
They were not only ignored by the Family because of their status, but also because their Aptitude was poor. Countless people had told them to their faces that they would never achieve anything great in their lives and would never reach a higher Realm.
The Realm of these five children was the weakest among the children of the Family. Not to mention within the Family, even looking at the entire Tian Yuan City, their strength could be ranked among the bottom one or two.
"We don't have much Aptitude," one of the older children said. "And our Cultivation is not good either."
