73: Battle of the Behemoths

Haitang rested her chin in her hands. Her eyes had not left the window. She seemed not to have heard the old man's words.

The old man waited for a moment. Seeing that Haitang would not engage with him, he set his cup down heavily and advised her earnestly.

"Girl, I am not trying to harm you."

"Why can't you listen to reason?"

"If you interfere in the affairs of the Yang family and the Zhang Family again this time, I will have no choice but to step in myself."

Haitang slowly turned her head. There was a hint of surprise in her eyes.

"Are you going to help the Yang family too?"

The old man knew she was feigning ignorance. He chuckled and went along with her words.

"Yes, yes, yes."

"I will also help the Yang family."

"This time, I will help them to the end."

"I will let the Yang family resolve this matter completely."

Although he said he was helping the Yang family, his tone revealed great dissatisfaction toward them.

"I advise you not to interfere in this matter."

"Even if you do, you should help the Yang family with sincerity."

"Why?"

The old man frowned. Haitang slightly raised her head, signaling the old man to look outside.

The old man looked impatiently toward the entrance of the Yang family residence, not understanding what she meant.

"What exactly are you trying to say?"

Haitang smiled faintly.

"Many people have gone to the Yang family residence in the past few days."

"Among them are quite a few formidable figures, as well as several hidden experts."

"How many families and forces has the Zhang Family destroyed over the years?"

"Of those destroyed families and forces, how many people escaped?"

"And how many are related to them?"

"Do you know how many people harbor resentment against the Zhang Family?"

"How many people want to destroy the Yang family?"

"The reason they haven't made a move is that the time wasn't right."

"Now, the time has come."

"Just watch."

"The Zhang Family is not far from destruction."

The old man did not agree with Haitang's words. He smiled coldly, unable to agree.

"It has been so many years."

"There have been countless people who wanted to destroy the Zhang Family."

"Which one of them hasn't been destroyed by the Zhang Family?"

"How can a tiny Yang family change the situation?"

"How many families as strong as the Zhang Family haven't been swallowed up completely by them?"

"Can the small Yang family, or even Yang Yi himself, shake that behemoth?"

"Do you know how behemoths usually die?" Haitang suddenly asked.

The old man knit his brows.

Haitang said:

"A behemoth's power is immense."

"It is very, very difficult to kill it."

"However, behemoths are usually killed."

"And it is often weak humans who kill them."

"You should know the reason, right?"

"Because human wisdom far exceeds that of a behemoth."

The old man expressed his own point of view.

Haitang nodded. Suddenly, she said seriously:

"The Zhang Family is a behemoth."

"They are too powerful."

"So powerful that they no longer use their minds to think about things."

"So powerful that they are too lazy to think about certain matters, which makes them stupid."

"Once they become stupid, they will be uprooted by some weak creatures."

"The Duobao Pavilion is the same."

"If you don't want the Duobao Pavilion to be uprooted by others as well, do not participate in this matter."

"Your Shangguan family is also a behemoth."

"Are you not afraid that the Shangguan family will be uprooted by others?"

Haitang's gaze fell back on the entrance of the Yang family residence. At this moment, things had already changed there.

"Our Shangguan family is a behemoth."

"But we are a behemoth that is not stupid and possesses extremely high intelligence."

"So, you don't need to worry."

The old man sneered and stopped talking to Haitang. He stared intently at the entrance of the Yang family residence.

At some unknown moment, a person had silently walked to the front of the onlookers.

Just as Zhang Maolin was standing at the entrance of the Yang family residence, waiting quietly, this person suddenly made a move.

A poison-tipped dagger suddenly appeared in his hand, and he fiercely stabbed at Zhang Maolin.

This dagger had been soaked in poison for who knows how long; even the hilt was still green.

The person holding the dagger was also wearing white gloves, seemingly afraid of being infected by the poison.

A wave of gasps erupted from the crowd.

Zhang Maolin was observant of all directions. Although he had been facing the Yang family gate, he was extremely cautious.

Hearing a faint sound of wind from behind, combined with the gasps of the people around him, he knew someone was launching a sneak attack.

Without time to think, he turned and struck out with a palm.

This palm strike was like a mountain-toppling, sea-overturning force.

It not only sent the attacker flying but also knocked away several rows of onlookers in the front.

In an instant, the crowd was in chaos. Cries of pain and cursing rang out everywhere.

Zhang Maolin coldly scanned the chaotic crowd and shouted:

"Is this a killer sent by the Yang family?"

"You don't have the guts to confront me head-on, so you resort to such despicable and low-class tactics."

The rowdy crowd was buzzing with discussion. No one knew what was going on.

Some people thought it was the Yang family's doing, while others thought it was the Yang family's enemy.

Hearing that the crowd was not questioning the Yang family based on his words, Zhang Maolin didn't say anything more.

Inside the teahouse, the old man clapped his hands lightly, seemingly very satisfied with Zhang Maolin's victory just now.

Haitang, on the other hand, was quietly watching the crowd, as if looking for something.

"What are you looking at?" The old man noticed that Haitang was not looking at Zhang Maolin and asked curiously.

Haitang smiled slightly.

"I am looking at how many people want to kill the people of the Zhang Family."

"How many do you see?"

"I don't see many."

"Even if there are some, not many have the guts to make a move."

Haitang shook her head gently and sighed slightly.

"But someone already made a move just now."

"Take a closer look."

"See exactly how many people want to attack the Zhang Family."

"If you observe carefully, you will find that the Zhang Family is already surrounded by wolves."

"They are a piece of fat meat."

"Now, all it takes is for someone to pick up this piece of meat, and this pack of hungry wolves will swarm forward, eating the meat completely, without even a bone shard left."

Speaking of this, she covered her mouth and giggled.

"Sorry, fat meat doesn't seem to have bones."

The old man knit his brows tightly, scanning the crowd. He discovered several familiar faces.

He felt slightly surprised in his heart. These familiar faces were all remarkable figures; he hadn't expected them to appear here.

There were also some other people the old man recognized.

Although the Duobao Pavilion was a merchant selling treasures, they also gathered intelligence in secret.

Their intelligence network was incredibly vast. This old man kept in mind what kind of formidable figures had escaped from the families that had been destroyed by the Zhang Family.

Among the crowd, he saw many people whose families had been destroyed by the Yang family. This group of people was already hiding in the corners, the hatred in their eyes undisguised.
