52: Job election
Near the National Day holiday, the Human Resources major didn't have many classes. In the morning, in a café outside the school, two girls found Shen Qian and his companion chatting at their seats.
The newcomers were Wen Ru and her roommate, Sui Wei.
The girls in the class were currently divided into three factions: one led by Tan Xinxin, one by Wen Ru, and one by Fang Hui.
Shen Qian didn't have much interaction with Fang Hui, but he had developed a bit of a friendship with Wen Ru during military training, so he planned to lobby for Wen Ru's votes.
As long as the majority of the girls' votes went to them, the position of Class Monitor for the Eldest would be set in stone.
According to what he knew, Wen Ru was just like her name—gentle and soft—and the reason she could lead a faction was purely because her roommate, Sui Wei, was giving her advice from the side.
"Third Brother, I really didn't expect you to actually invite us out for coffee."
Sui Wei joked as soon as she sat down.
"Are you blaming us for asking too late? How about this: let's find a time later to go out for drinks, and I'll penalize myself with three glasses."
Shen Qian responded with a smile, but the girl waved her hands repeatedly.
"We took such a big advantage of Third Brother last time and haven't paid it back yet. How could we have the heart to let Third Brother treat us again?"
"We're all family; there's no such thing as taking advantage. It's just that the Eldest's work will need your cooperation and help in the future."
"That's natural. We also hope Third Brother can look after our Ru Ru a bit."
"You know, girls tend to have a lot on their minds, and Ru Ru doesn't have much of a mind of her own."
The two of them went back and forth like this, while Wen Ru and Chang Heng listened from the side, looking completely bewildered.
"Alright, Third Brother, then here's to a happy cooperation."
"Happy cooperation."
The two shook hands to leave. Chang Heng and Wen Ru were still dazed but held back from speaking. It wasn't until after the two girls left that Chang Heng spoke up in confusion.
"Old Third, didn't we come here to lobby for votes? Where... where are the votes?"
"Haven't we already gotten them~"
On the other side.
"Wei Wei, what were you guys just talking about? Weren't we supposed to talk about whether to support Chang Heng for Class Monitor?"
"We already said it; we support him."
Chang Heng and Wen Ru: "Huh?"
In the evening, the class meeting was held as scheduled. Chang Heng was still a bit nervous.
"It's been quite a while since school started, and the class officers haven't been selected yet. Other classes have already settled theirs. I won't waste words; let's start electing class officers now."
"Class Monitor, is anyone running for election?"
Chang Heng, Tian Xiwen, and a boy from another dormitory raised their hands at the same time.
"Alright, for these three, everyone start voting. Just write a name on a piece of paper and crumple it into a ball."
"Counselor, wouldn't it be too simple like this? Is there not even a campaign speech?"
Someone from Sun Haoyu's dormitory suddenly stood up and said.
"Alright, alright, then let's begin. Campaign speeches. Which of the three of you will go first?"
"I'll go!"
Tian Xiwen was very proactive.
"Hello everyone, I'm Tian Xiwen... Also, regarding the class fees, as long as I become the Class Monitor, then for any upcoming school activities, like costumes or whatever, no class fees will be needed at all. I'll cover it!"
"Just so everyone can have a pure college life."
Shen Qian frowned slightly. This Sun Haoyu really didn't learn his lesson. He had been dealt with before for this kind of nonsense, yet he still dared to use this kind of tactic.
But since the other side used this kind of talk, their side certainly couldn't follow suit. Otherwise, it wouldn't be electing a Class Monitor, but a direct competition of financial power.
In that case, why bother electing? They might as well just buy the position with money.
"This little brat, he's actually so despicable. No need to think, it's definitely that brat Sun Haoyu's idea."
"Eldest, Eldest, tone down the dialect. We're here to run for election, not for a shouting match. Don't worry, just read what you wrote."
"The people here aren't fools. The other side's empty check has long been useless because of Sun Haoyu's last escape."
"Perform well, and remember not to swear."
After Tian Xiwen finished, another person went on stage and gave an impassioned speech, followed by Chang Heng.
"What they both said was quite good, but it's a bit too flashy. I'm a more practical person; I'll say what work I can do."
"If I become the Class Monitor, I won't dare say I'll cover all class fees, but I can cover all the work. Additionally, I'll try my best to make things like merit evaluations and awards as fair as possible."
"As fair as possible? That means you'll still prioritize your own people, right?"
Before Chang Heng could finish, someone from below interrupted.
"Keep quiet when someone else is speaking!"
Liu Qingyun was the first to speak, his bias being very obvious. After all, Shen Qian had indeed helped him save a lot of trouble. If Shen Qian could save him trouble, then conversely, if Shen Qian wanted to cause trouble, it would certainly bring immense difficulty.
So, it was best for this Class Monitor to be from Shen Qian's dormitory so he could slack off in peace.
"I don't know what you mean by that, but for merit evaluations and awards, the most excellent must come first. I've looked into our class's grades; Old Third from our dorm has the best grades, followed by Old Second."
"Of course, university isn't just about grades; it also looks at daily performance or participation in activities. I'll say it again: I will be as fair as possible."
When all the speeches ended, Shen Qian took the lead in applauding, followed by Tan Xinxin, Wen Ru, and the others.
"Alright, the speeches are over. You can vote now."
Out of 43 people in the class, Chang Heng got 25 votes and won outright.
"Next is the Academic Committee Member. For this position, I must emphasize that the Academic Committee Member records others' attendance, so they absolutely cannot skip class themselves."
Wei Mingtian, who had been eager to try, suddenly became well-behaved.
"Old Third, why didn't you tell me such an important thing?"
"I just found out too. How about this, let's see who's running. If Wen Ru runs, we'll give our votes to her. This is what I agreed upon with her."
"No problem."
Are you kidding? As a carefree college student, how could he not skip class? Not only could he not skip class, but he'd also have to catch others skipping. Whoever wants to be the Academic Committee Member can go for it; anyway, he wouldn't.
"Wait, Old Third, when did we agree to vote for Wen Ru?"
"This afternoon."
"Holy crap, how many encrypted languages do you guys have? I was listening there for a long time and didn't understand a single thing."
"Stay calm; you'll slowly learn in the future."
Those who came out to run were Xu Xing, Wen Ru, and Fang Hui.
In the end, Wen Ru beat Fang Hui by 6 votes and took the position.
After that was the Secretary, which was taken by Tan Xinxin.
"Finally, there are two positions left: one Sports Committee Member and one Psychology Committee Member. Is anyone interested in competing for these?"
With the three core positions gone, everyone's interest waned.
"Counselor, I'd like to be the Psychology Committee Member."
"Psychology Committee Member?"
Not just the Counselor, but the other students were also surprised. They didn't expect Shen Qian to be interested in such an idle position.
"Is anyone else competing?"
"Teacher, can I be the Assistant Psychology Committee Member?"
Fang Hui spoke up, attracting many gazes.
"This..."
Liu Qingyun had originally thought that if all else failed, he'd let Fang Hui be the Vice Monitor. He didn't expect her to directly want to be the Assistant Psychology Committee Member. Which class has both a head and an Assistant Psychology Committee Member?
"Then, Shen Qian will be the Psychology Committee Member, and Fang Hui will be the Assistant Psychology Committee Member. I imagine that from now on, no one in our class will have psychological issues."
