68: Chapter 68 Misunderstanding

On the outskirts of Sector C7, Lei Hu gripped his battle blade and spat on the ground.

"Damn it, what is this kid made of? He runs so fast I can't even catch a ghost of his shadow!"

Beside him, Zhou Han also had a grim expression, clutching his communicator.

The channel was filled only with static; the signal was still being jammed by some intense magnetic field.

They had been following the direction Li Zhengyang took when he split off for over ten minutes, but apart from the monster corpses littering the path, they hadn't seen a single hair of him.

"Stay alert," Zhou Han lowered his voice, his hand resting on the hilt of his blade. "The scent of blood in this area is too strong; it's easy to attract swarms of things."

No sooner had he finished speaking than a sound of rapid gravel crunching came from behind a pile of rocks on the right.

Three figures darted out from the grey mist.

They were demons.

Lei Hu instinctively raised his battle blade, his Qi and blood surged instantly, and his battle aura coated the blade in a flash.

Zhou Han took a step forward, his pressure as a Martial Emperor bearing down on them, ready to form a formation to engage the enemy.

The result was unexpected.

The three demons glanced at them but didn't slow down at all.

Instead of pouncing to fight, they forcibly changed direction and sprinted forward like mad dogs.

"What's going on?" Lei Hu was stunned, his blade frozen in mid-air.

Demons were bloodthirsty by nature; when they saw human martial artists, it was always a fight to the death. How could they just turn and run?

"They're in a hurry to get somewhere."

Zhou Han's eyes turned cold, fixing on the bag in the demon's hand.

"No matter where they're going, stop them! Demons acting with such organization must be heading to rendezvous with their main force. They might even know the location of the Blood Demon. Chase!"

At his command, the elites of the two squads immediately took off running.

A chase began across the wasteland.

The demons in front were running for their lives, their heels practically kicking the back of their own heads.

Lei Hu and Zhou Han stayed hot on their heels.

After a dozen minutes of extreme pursuit, the grey mist ahead gradually dispersed, revealing the entrance to a canyon.

The rock walls on either side of the canyon were a strange, dark red, and faint fluctuations of blood and Qi could be felt from within.

Upon reaching the canyon entrance, the demon in the lead clearly let out a sigh of relief.

It let out a shrill screech, seemingly calling for its companions inside the canyon.

"Once we reach the gathering point, we'll be safe!"

The demon even had time to look back and sneer at Zhou Han, who was chasing behind.

It had just turned its head back.

From the darkness, a spear suddenly thrust out from thin air.

Squelch!

The abyssal meteor dragon spear thrust directly into the demon's mouth, piercing through its hard skull.

The spear tip, dripping with black blood, emerged from the back of its head.

The massive momentum impaled the demon's body on the spear shaft like a candied hawthorn; its feet left the ground, and it hung suspended in mid-air, twitching.

The other two demons slammed on their brakes, their bone spurs bristling.

The person holding the spear walked out from the shadows of the canyon entrance.

His combat suit was soaked in black blood, he gripped the spear, and an unmasked smile hung on his face.

Li Zhengyang.

"You're late."

Li Zhengyang flicked his wrist, detonating the Twist Technique at the spear tip.

The demon's head, still hanging on the spear, exploded, and its headless corpse slammed into the ground.

The remaining two demons were terrified out of their wits and turned to run back.

"How can there be a human in the Bone Tower camp? Where are the other demons?"

Li Zhengyang activated Startling Cloud Step with his feet; the ground exploded into a deep crater, and he was already behind them.

The dragon spear swept horizontally.

The effect of Dragon Tooth Armor Piercing triggered.

The weapon's edge sliced across the demons' waists as if cutting through tofu.

Both Rank 6 demons were severed at the waist on the spot; their bisected bodies fell to the ground, spilling their internal organs everywhere.

Li Zhengyang didn't give them a chance to regenerate; he stepped forward and tapped twice with his dragon spear, shattering both their heads.

It was smooth and fluid, without a single wasted movement.

He crouched down, skillfully opened the demons' chests, pried out the three demon cores, and along with the bag containing the blood soul orb that had fallen to the ground, stuffed them all into the micro-space of his tactical watch.

"Another few million in the bag."

Li Zhengyang brushed the blood off his hands, his tone relaxed.

Just then, he heard a sound.

In the grey mist outside the canyon, rapid footsteps were approaching quickly.

There were at least a dozen people, and they were aggressive.

Li Zhengyang stood up, frowning.

More?

Li Zhengyang gripped the abyssal meteor dragon spear tightly, and the Qi and blood of a Rank 3 Martial Emperor instantly poured into the shaft.

The dragon scale patterns on the spear shaft lit up, and pressure spread across the canyon entrance.

The grey mist broke apart.

Zhou Han charged out in the lead, battle blade raised high.

He only saw shadows moving ahead; the murderous intent just stirred up by the demons couldn't be reined in, and he roared, "Kill! Leave none alive!"

Lei Hu followed closely behind, his battle axe hacking straight down.

They assumed those demons had reached their stronghold and were preparing to counterattack; they hadn't even clearly seen who was standing there.

Li Zhengyang didn't clearly see the newcomers either, and his eyes turned cold.

"Want to resist?"

Instead of retreating, he advanced, his feet planted firmly on the ground. He gripped the middle of the shaft with both hands and swung the abyssal meteor dragon spear horizontally.

He activated his Indestructible Golden Body, and the full 100% power of the Ancient Dragon Power exploded forth.

There was no technique, just pure brute force and the crushing power of a top-tier weapon.

—BOOM! A deafening roar exploded at the canyon entrance.

The shockwave instantly cleared the surrounding grey mist.

Zhou Han's battle blade struck the spear shaft, lasting only for an instant.

The blade shattered, fragments flying in all directions.

An irresistible, massive force surged through the hilt and slammed into his arms.

The protective battle aura of a Martial Emperor was like a joke in the face of this power; it shattered on the spot.

Zhou Han, along with his broken blade, was sent flying.

Lei Hu's battle axe didn't even touch the spear shaft before he was upended by the shockwave generated by the spear's wind.

He flipped twice in the air before crashing heavily onto the ground.

The team members following behind fared even worse; swept by the shockwave of the collision, they all flew backward in unison, their wails merging into one.

After finishing the sweep, Li Zhengyang immediately retracted his spear, stepped forward with his right foot, and aimed the spear tip directly at the throat of Zhou Han, who was lying on the ground.

Lei Hu clutched his aching chest and struggled to lift his head from the pile of rubble.

He clearly saw the spear and the person holding it.

He roared at the top of his lungs.

"Wait! Wait! It's people! It's us!"

Li Zhengyang paused his movement.

He narrowed his eyes, looking at the pale-faced Zhou Han on the ground, then at Lei Hu, who was scrambling to his feet in the distance.

The air froze.

Zhou Han lay on the ground, gasping for breath.

In that instant just now, he had truly felt the arrival of death.

That absolute crushing power didn't even allow him, a Martial Emperor, to harbor a single thought of resistance.

He looked at the spear tip hovering over his throat, not even daring to swallow hard.

"Ah, so it was you guys. I thought you were the demons' reinforcements."
