99: Chapter 99 The Enemy is at the Gates
Lei Hu stood on the dirt slope with his mouth agape, frozen and unable to move a step for a long time.
Where were the three thousand Elite Blood Demon Guards?
Where was the airtight encirclement?
All that met his eyes were severed limbs and broken arms.
There was not a single intact Demon corpse.
The black blood covering the ground had pooled together, and stepping in it left sticky trails.
Li Zhengyang turned around, and seeing everyone catch up, he teased them.
"What are you looking at? If you're idle, go down and dig out the Demon Cores!"
He pointed at the wreckage under his feet. "Hurry up. Once you've finished digging through this junk, the main course is still waiting for us ahead."
The five hundred veterans finally snapped out of their daze. With a shudder, they let out war cries and charged down the dirt slope.
Zhao Yi reached into a pool of minced flesh and dug out a Grade 7 Demon Core that was still warm.
His hand was trembling.
Just a moment ago, it had been a certain death trap, but in the blink of an eye, it had turned into a shopping spree. The contrast was so great that his brain couldn't process it.
Two and a half minutes.
The battlefield was cleared.
"Move out," Li Zhengyang ordered.
The main force reorganized their formation and sped toward the depths of the Northern Territory.
This time, the momentum of the entire squad underwent a qualitative change.
Li Zhengyang rode far ahead, leading the charge.
He didn't hold back his Martial Venerable aura in the slightest. Lightning coiled around his dragon spear, pushing outward to form a zone of thunderstorm suppression.
The scattered Demons and beasts that hadn't managed to escape in time were disintegrated into mists of blood by the lightning the moment they poked their heads out, leaving not even bone fragments behind.
Pure suppression.
The veterans behind didn't need to worry about forming defensive formations; they just had to keep running.
Lei Hu followed behind, his grin stretching from ear to ear.
A lone Grade 7 Wind Wolf recklessly lunged out from behind a rock on the side.
Wind Wolves had thick skin and dense fur; in the past, when encountering such a tough opponent, Lei Hu would have had to gather three or four brothers to wear it down.
Today, Lei Hu didn't even look at it, swinging his thunderstorm warblade to slash right through it.
Arcs of electricity crackled violently on the blade.
"Get lost!"
The Wind Wolf was split in two from head to tail. The cut was clean, and its internal organs were charred black by the lightning.
"This equipment is fucking awesome!"
Lei Hu roared at the top of his lungs, snatching the Demon Core falling through the air. "I feel like I could poke a hole in the sky right now!"
After switching to the black-scaled combat uniforms, the burden on the five hundred veterans was reduced to a minimum, and their defensive capabilities had doubled.
Coupled with the warblades in their hands, the speed of these veterans had been raised by a whole level.
This wasn't going to war; it was clearly a group of fully armed thugs rushing to commit robbery.
Zhao Yi looked down at his tactical positioning device while sprinting.
"Minister! We have thirty miles left!"
Zhao Yi reported the distance loudly. "At this speed, we'll be able to see the Mad Demon Fortress in less than ten minutes!"
Li Zhengyang didn't look back; his voice carried over on the wind.
"Then go even faster!"
The five-hundred-man squad tore a black line across the Northern Wasteland, plunging straight into the heart of the Mad Demon territory.
At the same time.
In the main hall of the Mad Demon Fortress.
Commander Gu Sha leaned high upon his throne of bones, with his legs propped up on the table.
"Calculating the time, the left and right commanders should be back soon."
Commander Gu Sha sipped some blood and boasted, "It's only five hundred humans. Sending three thousand Elite Blood Demon Guards is truly using a sledgehammer to crack a nut."
A Demon lieutenant nearby quickly leaned in.
"My Lord is absolutely right."
The lieutenant's face was full of flattery as he rubbed his hands together. "The two vice commanders are Half-step Martial Venerables. Catching a few remnants of the Pojun Division is as easy as reaching out to grab them."
"I reckon that right now, they're probably tying them up in a string, dragging them back like dogs."
Commander Gu Sha snorted, his eyes filled with greed.
"Once they bring them back, throw them straight into the underground blood pool. Draining the vital energy of these five hundred warriors will increase my chances of reaching the late stage of the Martial Venerable realm."
"My Lord is wise! Once you step into the late stage, our Mad Demon Clan will be the absolute kings of this Northern Territory!"
"Once we've eaten all those people, the leftover bones can be rewarded to the brothers as a snack."
The lieutenant flattered him repeatedly.
"Granted!" Commander Gu Sha waved his hand.
All the Demon generals in the main hall laughed along.
No one thought of the worst-case scenario.
In the eyes of these monsters, since Lei Qianjue was not in the Northern Territory, the remaining human warriors were just meat on the chopping block, destined to be cooked sooner or later.
That fool Xue You died at the hands of humans purely because he was a piece of trash.
And for the Mad Demon Clan, deploying three thousand Elite Blood Demon Guards was an absolutely crushing move.
"Pass down the order to heat up the blood pool," Commander Gu Sha waved his hand. "Prepare to receive our guests!"
As soon as the words left his mouth.
A sudden change occurred outside the hall.
On the horizon, a massive black shadow rose from the ground.
Li Zhengyang stopped.
His vital energy surged into the sky, tearing a hole straight through the haze in the air.
Sunlight leaked through, shining upon these men in black.
They had arrived.
Thirty minutes.
Two hundred kilometers exactly.
Behind him.
Assistant Chen Feng, Lei Hu, and Zhao Yi led the way.
With a crisp sound, the five hundred veterans came to a synchronized halt.
Their thunderstorm warblades were unsheathed in unison!
The lightning merged into a sea of electricity, illuminating the dim wasteland as bright as day.
The killing intent, mixed with their vital energy, forced the low-level Demons at the base of the city wall to collapse, their legs turning to jelly.
On the hundred-meter-high black walls of the Mad Demon Fortress hung tens of thousands of bone wind chimes.
These wind chimes were all crafted from the skulls and leg bones of high-level human warriors.
Whenever a powerful enemy approached, they would automatically detect the aura and sound a warning.
The usually deathly silent wind chimes, at this moment.
"Ding-lingβ!"
Ten thousand bone wind chimes rang out simultaneously.
The next second.
"Bang!"
The ten thousand bone wind chimes on the front of the city wall, unable to withstand the Martial Venerable aura Li Zhengyang was exerting, shattered collectively on the spot!
Bone ash scattered across the sky.
Inside the main hall.
Commander Gu Sha had just raised his wine cup, preparing to take another sip.
Hearing the commotion outside, he stood up abruptly.
"What is going on?!" Commander Gu Sha shouted.
The main door was kicked open with a bang.
A blood-covered Demon guard scrambled in, crawling and stumbling, and collapsed on the floor, shaking like a leaf.
"My Lord! Hu... Humans!" The Demon guard pointed outside, his tongue tied. "The humans have attacked!"
Commander Gu Sha grabbed the Demon guard by the neck and hoisted him up.
"What are you panicking about! A few remnants scared you like this? Where are the left and right commanders? Didn't they tie them up?"
"There are no commanders... no three thousand elite guards..."
The Demon guard cried out, "It's just five hundred humans! They are right below the city walls, and the elite guards have all been struck dead by lightning!"
Outside the city.
Li Zhengyang looked up at the massive black fortress.
His gaze swept over the human skulls hanging all over the city wall, and the veins on the back of the hand gripping his dragon spear bulged.
He twirled his spear, the tip pointing directly at the fortress's heavy gate.
Li Zhengyang curled his lips, revealing his white teeth.
"Brothers."
The five hundred veterans held their breath, raising their warblades high.
"Today, raze this damn fortress to the ground. As for the beasts inside, I'll take care of them all!"
