10: Chapter 10 The Art of One-Hit Kill
Ever since he took Huang Fugui as his lackey, Lin Feng’s days had been quite comfortable.
Huang Fugui, this "intelligence officer," was a paragon of dedication. He treated the entire Qingyang County like his own backyard, working around the clock, twenty-four hours a day. There wasn't a single trivial bit of gossip or movement within the various social circles that he didn't know about.
On this day, Lin Feng was in the Martial Arts Field of the yamen's backyard, leisurely poking a hundred-pound training stone with a single finger, causing stone chips to fly everywhere.
There was no helping it; his strength was increasing too quickly, and he had nowhere to use all that power, making him feel like he had a bit too much excess energy.
To the other constables, his lazy appearance seemed like the demeanor of an unfathomable master.
Just then, Huang Fugui's shrill and fawning voice rang out in his mind once again.
"Master! Master! Something big has happened!"
Lin Feng’s finger paused, leaving a deep hole in the hard bluestone.
"Speak."
"Master, do you remember that crappy 'undercutting the foundation' plan the Black Tiger Gang had a couple of days ago?"
Huang Fugui's tone was full of disdain.
"They actually gathered those famous habitual thieves together. The leader is named Ghost Hand Zhang San. It's said his qinggong is extraordinary, and his hands can silently steal anything from anyone. He’s known as the King of Thieves!"
"And then?"
Lin Feng became slightly interested.
"Then these idiots pulled off a big job last night!"
Huang Fugui's tone grew excited. "They... they robbed Chief Constable Li Gang’s house!"
Lin Feng: "..."
He froze for several seconds before it finally registered.
"Chief Constable Li Gang's house was robbed?"
"Yeah! It was picked clean!"
Huang Fugui said gleefully, "I heard that when Chief Constable Li woke up this morning, he found that even his underwear had been swiped. He was so furious he performed a set of Mad Dog Boxing on the spot!"
Lin Feng was thoroughly amused.
What was this even?
The flood washing away the Dragon King's temple?
One of their own hitting their own?
The Black Tiger Gang's intelligence is truly worrisome.
Chief Constable Li Gang told them to cause trouble for me, but instead, they accurately backstabbed their own ally first.
Sure enough, before long, a constable rushed over to inform him that Chief Constable Li had an important case to discuss and requested all constables to gather in the main hall.
When Lin Feng arrived at the hall, he saw Chief Constable Li Gang with a face as grim as iron, sitting in the chief constable's seat, the fire of rage nearly erupting from his eyes.
When he saw Lin Feng, his gaze subconsciously flickered away for a moment, but he quickly forced himself to maintain a majestic posture.
"Ahem!"
Chief Constable Li Gang cleared his throat and said in a raspy voice, "I presume everyone has heard. Last night, an extremely heinous burglary occurred in the city! The thieves were bold and lawless, actually daring to extend their thieving hands into this chief constable’s residence! This is a blatant provocation against our entire Qingyang County Yamen!"
He slammed the table, making the teacups jump.
"This case must be strictly investigated! Thoroughly investigated!"
The constables below all lowered their heads, wanting to laugh but not daring to, their faces turning red from the effort.
Who didn't know that Chief Constable Li and the Black Tiger Gang were thick as thieves?
These thieves were most likely brought in by the Black Tiger Gang.
Now they've stolen from you; let's see what you do.
Chief Constable Li Gang looked around, his gaze finally landing on Lin Feng, a faint trace of hidden malice flashing in his eyes.
Of course he knew the Black Tiger Gang did it. One-eyed Tiger had already sent someone to explain and apologize, saying his subordinates were ignorant and had robbed the wrong place.
But Chief Constable Li Gang's rage could not be quelled!
What made him even more frustrated was that he couldn't speak of this openly!
He couldn't exactly tell others that he was colluding with a gang and ended up being robbed by the gang's lackeys, could he?
Therefore, this case had to be solved! And it had to be solved by someone else!
And the best candidate was undoubtedly Lin Feng!
Firstly, Lin Feng was strong and famous; sending him to investigate was logical.
Secondly, these thieves were desperate criminals brought in by the Black Tiger Gang, each with extraordinary skills—especially that Ghost Hand Zhang San, who was incredibly cunning.
Sending Lin Feng to deal with them was the perfect way to kill with a borrowed knife, letting them tear each other apart!
Even if they couldn't kill Lin Feng, making him suffer a great loss would still vent some of his anger!
"Lin Feng!"
Chief Constable Li Gang called out.
"Present."
Lin Feng took a step forward.
"The impact of this case is no small matter."
Chief Constable Li Gang said with righteous indignation, "You are the Number One Demon Slayer of the yamen. Dealing with these petty criminals should be a simple matter for you. This chief constable now orders you to bring this bold gang to justice within three days! Can you do it?"
This was another open trap.
If he accepted, he would have to go head-to-head with a group of vicious habitual criminals.
If he didn't, it would be insubordination, giving him an excuse to suppress him.
The surrounding constables looked at Lin Feng with sympathy, feeling that the boss was once again making things difficult for him.
However, Lin Feng's reaction once again exceeded everyone's expectations.
"Three days won't be necessary."
Lin Feng said calmly.
Chief Constable Li Gang was stunned. "What do you mean?"
The corners of Lin Feng's mouth curled up slightly into a confident smile. "What I mean is, dealing with this sort of trash doesn't take that long."
"Half a day is enough."
"I will return to report before sunset today."
After saying this, Lin Feng turned and left, leaving the hall full of dumbfounded constables and Chief Constable Li Gang, whose face turned from blue to purple, and then from purple to black.
Arrogant!
Too arrogant!
This kid simply doesn't respect anyone!
Chief Constable Li Gang trembled with rage, but he was sneering in his heart.
"Fine! Fine! Fine! I want to see how you bring back their heads today! Ghost Hand Zhang San is not some brainless monster like a zombie or a water ghost!"
...
"Huang Fugui, do you know where their hideout is?"
"Master, just you wait and see!"
Huang Fugui's voice was incredibly excited. "Those stupid thieves think they're so smart. After stealing the goods, they didn't leave the city but hid in Widow Alley in the east of the city. That place is a melting pot of all sorts of people, the perfect place to hide filth. Right now, they're in the Hongxiu Zhao brothel at the very end of the alley, fencing the goods and splitting the money!" A flash of killing intent crossed Lin Feng's eyes.
He liked it best when enemies gathered together; it saved him the trouble of finding them one by one, making it convenient to wipe them all out at once.
Widow Alley.
This was one of the most chaotic areas in Qingyang County, even worse than the south of the city.
The narrow alley was filled with gambling dens, brothels, and all sorts of shady businesses.
Lin Feng, dressed in his constable uniform and hand on his blade, strode inside.
His reputation as a "fierce man" had already spread through the underworld of Qingyang County.
The moment he appeared, the entire alley fell silent. Everyone looked at him with terrified eyes and scrambled to get out of his way.
Lin Feng arrived at the entrance of "Hongxiu Zhao" without any hindrance.
Two burly men responsible for guarding the place saw him and stepped forward reluctantly, forcing smiles that looked worse than crying.
"Lord... Lord Lin, you... you are here for..."
"Beat it."
Lin Feng said only one word.
The two men, as if granted a grand amnesty, scrambled away.
Lin Feng kicked open the brothel's main door and walked in.
The madam and a group of gaudily dressed girls screamed in succession, huddling together and trembling.
Lin Feng ignored them and walked straight up to the second floor.
Guided by Huang Fugui, he soon arrived at the door of the innermost private room.
Noisy laughter and arguments over splitting the money came from inside.
"Quiet down, everyone! We robbed the Skinflint Li's house this time and got a huge haul. Everyone gets a share!"
A raspy voice said; it was indeed Ghost Hand Zhang San.
"Hahaha, Big Brother is right! That Skinflint Li usually acts so high and mighty, who would have thought his house held so many good things!"
"If you ask me, One-eyed Tiger of the Black Tiger Gang has a good eye, hiring us to deal with that constable surnamed Lin! Once we finish splitting the money, let's go pay that kid's house a visit too!"
"Exactly!"
Bang!
Just then, the door to the private room was kicked open by a massive force from the outside, wood splinters flying everywhere.
The seven or eight burly men in the room were startled and turned their heads to look.
At the door, Lin Feng stood against the light, hand on his hilt, his expression as cold as eternal ice.
"Are you looking for me?"
"Lin... Lin Feng!"
Ghost Hand Zhang San's pupils constricted. He never dreamed the other party would find them so quickly!
"Brothers, attack together! He's alone! Kill him!"
Ghost Hand Zhang San reacted extremely fast, shouting as he drew a pair of Trench Knives from his waist. His body flickered like a wisp of green smoke as he was the first to pounce on Lin Feng.
His qinggong was indeed extraordinary, his movements erratic and difficult to track.
The other habitual thieves were also desperate criminals, picking up their weapons and charging forward with strange cries.
Facing the siege of seven or eight people, there wasn't the slightest ripple of emotion on Lin Feng's face.
He only slowly drew his blade.
[3.5x Critical Hit triggered!]
"Shua!"
There were no earth-shattering Moves or flashy special effects.
There was only a flash of blade light, extremely fast and extremely cold.
That blade light seemed as if it didn't come from the human world but from the depths of Hell, carrying the finality of reaping all life.
The blade light flashed and vanished.
Lin Feng's figure had already appeared behind Ghost Hand Zhang San and the others, slowly sheathing his blade.
The entire room instantly fell into a deathly silence.
The seven or eight thieves who were charging forward all froze in place, maintaining various pouncing postures, unmoving as if a freezing spell had been cast upon them.
"Gulu..."
The next moment, seven or eight heads rolled neatly from their necks, falling to the floor and bouncing a few times.
Blood, like a delayed fountain, erupted from the seven or eight headless torsos, instantly dyeing the entire room red.
One strike, total annihilation!
Not even a single scream had time to be uttered!
This was Lin Feng's art of the one-hit kill.
[Ding! Successfully killed 8 heinous criminals!]
[Critical hit multiplier increased to 4x! Obtained 400 critical hit points!]
Lin Feng didn't even look at the corpses on the ground. He calmly untied a rope from his waist, strung the eight heads of those who died with their eyes open together, and carried them downstairs.
Downstairs, the madam and the girls were already scared out of their wits, their faces pale as ghosts.
When they saw Lin Feng walking down with a long string of bloody heads, they finally couldn't handle the terrifying shock and collectively fainted with a cry.
Lin Feng walked out of "Hongxiu Zhao," ignoring all the terrified and horrified gazes in Widow Alley, and walked toward the yamen carrying the heads.
At this moment, less than an hour had passed since he left the yamen.
The afterglow of the setting sun stretched his shadow very, very long.
