82: Chapter 82 Armed Swarm
The Japanese Army Officer's sneer froze on his face.
Hell?
He felt as if he had heard a massive joke.
A dying man, out of ammunition and food, surrounded on all sides...
...was talking to him about hell?
"Fire!"
He didn't bother with more nonsense and swung down his commander's saber.
"Capture the one dressed most strangely! Leave him alive!"
Bang!
What responded to him was not a volley from rifles.
But rather, the crisp sound of a wooden box opening.
Chen Xi smiled.
He casually threw the wooden box, disguised as a 'Moth Specimen Box', onto the ground.
The moment the box opened.
There was no earth-shattering explosion.
There was no world-destroying light.
Only a cloud of black 'moths' quietly swarmed out from the box.
They didn't act like real moths, haphazardly fluttering toward the lights.
Instead, in a bizarre, highly disciplined manner, they formed a dense, scalp-numbing phalanx and hovered in mid-air.
Their wings did not flap.
They just suspended there, quietly.
The compound eyes of every single 'moth' lit up with a faint, crimson glow.
Like a field of demon eyes quietly opening in the dark night.
[Holy crap... what is this? Moths?]
[These are freaking Mechanical Moths! Cyberpunk!]
[My trypophobia is acting up... I'm going numb...]
[Master Xi's trump card! This is Master Xi's final trump card!]
The viewers in the Livestream room were speechless with shock at this eerie yet spectacular sight.
The Japanese Soldiers were also stunned.
They didn't understand why, even though their officer had ordered them to fire, they hadn't pulled the triggers.
They just stared blankly at the 'moths' flying out of that strange wooden box.
"Buzz—"
A very faint low hum, like the vibration of a swarm of bees.
The black swarm of 'moths' moved.
They didn't rush toward the nearby Japanese Army surrounding them.
Instead, with incredible speed, they soared into the sky, cleared the warehouse's ruins, and silently pounced toward the Japanese Army's rear positions.
"Baka! What are you standing there for! Fire!"
The Japanese Army Officer finally snapped out of his shock, screaming in exasperation.
But it was too late... At a hidden heavy machine gun nest in the Japanese rear.
Three Japanese Soldiers were leisurely smoking cigarettes.
In their view, the battle was already over.
All that remained was to take a few prisoners and then enjoy the fruits of victory.
One Soldier felt his neck itch slightly.
He reached out to scratch it.
It seemed like a moth.
He didn't pay it any mind.
He casually swatted at it.
Pfft.
A sound even quieter than a mosquito's buzz.
The Soldier's head was twisted off as if by an invisible hand.
It fell to the ground along with half his neck.
Blood gushed out from the severed neck like a fountain.
The smiles on his two laughing companions' faces froze instantly.
Warm liquid splashed all over their faces.
They didn't even have time to scream.
Several more 'moths' silently landed on them.
Pfft.
Pfft.
Two more soft sounds.
Two fresh heads rolled onto the ground.
More 'moths' landed on that type 92 heavy machine gun.
The scorching barrel began to melt and deform at a visible rate.
Like a lit candle.
Finally, an entire box of ammunition was detonated.
Boom—!
A massive fireball soared into the sky from the Japanese rear... At the temporary Japanese Command Post.
The commander who had ordered the final assault was holding binoculars, looking strangely at the sudden explosion of fire.
A 'moth' silently landed on his binoculars.
He felt it.
Frowning, he lowered the binoculars, intending to brush away the annoying insect.
Then, he saw the crimson light glowing in the 'moth's' compound eyes.
That was the last light he would ever see in his life.
Pfft.
...The mortar positions.
The ammunition depot.
The medical station.
One 'moth' after another descended silently.
Bringing a precise and efficient feast of death.
Pfft pfft pfft pfft—!
A series of dense, barely audible soft sounds.
Boom! Rumble—!
A series of earth-shattering chain explosions.
In just over ten seconds, the entire Japanese rear position was completely turned into a sea of fire.
Communications were cut off.
The command system was instantly paralyzed.
The front-line Japanese Soldiers who were charging forward were completely bewildered.
They didn't know what was happening behind them.
They only knew that the officers urging them forward had gone silent.
The heavy machine guns providing fire cover had stopped.
From behind them came only chaotic, desperate screams and the continuous roar of explosions.
Fear spread among them like a plague.
The offensive formation collapsed instantly.
Countless Soldiers threw away their rifles and began scurrying around like headless flies.
The entire battlefield fell into a state of unprecedented, massive chaos... Inside the warehouse.
Xie Jinyuan and Shangguan Zhibiao stared dumbfoundedly at this scene, which looked like a battle between gods.
Their brains had completely given up on thinking.
They only knew that the tide of enemies who had been pushing them to their deaths just moments ago...
...had retreated.
They were in chaos.
They were defeated.
"Go!"
Chen Xi's voice was hoarse and weak, yet it carried an unquestionable power.
He grabbed Xie Jinyuan, who was still in a daze beside him.
"Move now!"
The two snapped out of it, no longer daring to hesitate for a second.
They supported several rear-guard brothers who were also heavily wounded and barely able to stand, rushing toward the Zipline that connected them to life.
[We won? Just like that?]
[Master Xi is freaking awesome!!! (Voice cracks)]
[How the hell are those moths! That's the Kiss of the Reaper!]
[One man destroying an army! Today I've truly seen it with my own eyes!]
[Hurry up and go! Don't just stand there! Go home!]
After a brief moment of being dazed, the viewers in the Livestream room also erupted into a mountain-shaking carnival of joy.
Chen Xi and Xie Jinyuan, along with the last few Soldiers, hooked onto the Zipline.
Behind them was the burning, chaotic, hellish Japanese Army positions.
They turned back and took one deep look at the Sihang Warehouse, which they had guarded with their lives and blood for four days and nights.
Then, without looking back, they slid toward the darkness that represented a new life.
