83: Chapter 83 Goodbye, Four Lines!

Chen Xi grabbed Xie Jinyuan, who was still dazed beside him.

"Go!"

He growled.

Those two words, like a clap of thunder, jolted awake all the rear-guard Soldiers who were still immersed in the shock of the miracle.

Their brains might not yet have grasped everything that had just happened.

But their bodies, through absolute obedience forged by thousands of drills, had already reacted.

A heavily wounded Soldier struggled to crawl up from the ground and grabbed the gun beside him.

Another veteran, who had fired all his bullets, pulled out a polished bayonet from his waist.

They didn't need to think.

They only needed to follow that figure who had created the miracle.

"Quick! Get on the Zipline!"

Shangguan Zhibiao reacted the fastest. The wound on his chest was bleeding, but he didn't even notice. He roared, organizing the last few brothers to rush toward the platform that connected them to life.

Chaos.

Unprecedented chaos.

The Japanese Army's positions had completely turned into a boiling pot of porridge.

The sounds of explosions, screams, and the frantic roars of officers mingled together, playing a symphony of doomsday.

Not a single bullet was fired at the warehouse anymore.

Those Japanese Soldiers who had been charging forward like hungry wolves just moments ago were now scuttling around in the firelight like headless flies.

Some were looking for cover.

Some were calling out to their comrades.

And others just stood there dazed, staring at the hellish, soaring flames behind them.

Their command system was completely paralyzed.

A precious vacuum created by technology.

Chen Xi and Xie Jinyuan, leading the last few brothers, dashed frantically toward the third-floor platform within this vacuum.

Behind them was the burning, chaotic battlefield.

Above them was that cold steel cable, carrying all their hopes.

"Quick! Get on!"

Shangguan Zhibiao was the first to reach the platform. He didn't go first; instead, he turned and used all his strength to push a brother with a leg injury onto the pulley.

"Go!"

That brother looked back at him deeply before disappearing into the night.

One.

Two.

Three.

The last of the rear-guard Soldiers, one after another, stepped onto the path home.

Soon, only three people remained on the platform.

Chen Xi, Xie Jinyuan, and Shangguan Zhibiao.

"You two go first."

Chen Xi looked at them and said calmly.

"No!"

Shangguan Zhibiao refused without a second thought. "If anyone's going first, it's you! Mr. Chen! Your injuries are the most severe!"

"This is an order."

Chen Xi's tone wasn't heavy, but it carried an unquestionable power.

From his vest, he pulled out a palm-sized metal disc that looked like an old-fashioned pocket watch.

On it was a single red button.

"I have to stay behind to set off some fireworks for this place."

Xie Jinyuan's pupils constricted slightly as he looked at the object.

He knew that was definitely no pocket watch.

It was another "miracle" he couldn't understand.

He didn't ask further.

He just patted Shangguan Zhibiao's shoulder and said in a low voice.

"Zhibiao, let's go."

Shangguan Zhibiao wanted to say more, but after meeting Xie Jinyuan's firm gaze, he could only grit his teeth and hook onto the Zipline with him.

Chen Xi was the only one left on the platform.

He turned back and took a long look at this meat grinder of a place where he had fought for four days and four nights.

The walls were riddled with bullet holes.

The floor was stained with blood.

The air was thick with the smell of gunpowder and death.

He could almost still see those young, vibrant faces.

They were laughing.

They were crying.

They were fighting.

They were dying.

Then, all the faces froze on Chen Shusheng's young face, which wore a brilliant smile.

"Brother Chen, for me... see the China of the future."

Chen Xi's eyes grew warm.

He pulled back his lips into a smile that looked more painful than crying.

"I will."

"Little Chen."

"We're going home."

He turned around and hooked himself onto the cold steel cable.

At the moment he slid out.

He pressed the red button.

There was no earth-shattering roar.

Only a dull, almost inaudible "beep."

Chen Xi's figure quickly merged into the darkness.

Behind him, the massive Sihang Warehouse, perched by the Suzhou Creek like a giant beast, still stood quietly.

As if nothing had happened.

On the sliding Zipline.

Shangguan Zhibiao looked back, somewhat confused.

"Where are the fireworks Mr. Chen mentioned?"

Just as he finished speaking.

"Boom—!"

A dull thud, heavier than any previous explosion yet more terrifying, erupted from within the warehouse.

It wasn't just one sound.

It was a series.

Countless explosions were triggered simultaneously from every corner of the warehouse!

A massive orange-red fireball surged up from the center of the warehouse!

Like a volcanic eruption.

And like a lotus of death, suddenly blooming in the dark night.

The sturdy walls, strong enough to withstand countless shells, were torn to shreds from the inside in an instant, as if made of paper!

Countless steel bars and concrete, mixed with flames, were hurled hundreds of meters into the air.

Then, they came crashing down like a rain of meteoric fire.

The soaring firelight illuminated the entire Suzhou Creek as bright as day.

It also illuminated the black silhouettes on the Zipline, sliding toward a new life.

A scorching airwave swept in from behind.

A burning pain radiated from Chen Xi's back.

But he didn't look back.

Before his eyes was only that endless darkness representing rebirth.

And in the darkness, that brilliant smiling face, forever frozen at the age of eighteen.

Goodbye.

Sihang.

Goodbye.

My brothers.
