211: An era without saints!? (X)
The Abyss of Buried Souls.
Jagged black rocks, like the bones of a demon god.
A massive light barrier rose from the ground, sealing the place off.
On the mountain wall in the center of the abyss, Gu Zhan was pinned tightly by a pitch-black nail.
The nail was no ordinary object; it was a "Soul-Suppressing Nail" specially crafted by the Mortal assassin organization, designed to imprison Divine Souls and erode life force.
He had detonated his natal heavy sword; his Divine Soul and dao foundation were already shattered beyond repair.
Blood flowed in a trickle from his chest, staining the rocks beneath him red.
His aura was exhausted, on the verge of fading.
Below the abyss, the Ji Family Divine Maiden, the Wang Family Qilin Son, and a group of other Prodigies stood with cold expressions.
They surrounded him but did not kill him.
"Gu Zhan, aren't you very good at fighting?"
The Wang Family Qilin Son said with mockery.
"You call yourself the Gu Family's number one battle fanatic, so why are you now pinned here like a dead dog?"
The Ji Family Divine Maiden sneered.
"Don't say that. He ended up like this just to protect their six-year-old dao child."
"Truly commendable loyalty."
The insults struck Gu Zhan's crumbling Dao Heart.
Gu Zhan hung his head, unable to respond.
He didn't even have the strength to lift his head.
He had only one thought in his heart.
Did the dao child... escape?
Just then.
A figure slowly stepped out from the shadows in the deepest part of the abyss.
It was the top assassin, "Impermanence."
He walked up to Gu Zhan, his voice raspy.
"Stop fantasizing."
"Your clansmen must have all fallen in battle by now."
This was the final straw.
Gu Zhan lifted his head abruptly, his eyes blood-red.
"Pfft!"
He spat out a mouthful of heart blood, and his aura withered completely.
The Ji Family Divine Maiden and the others laughed even more triumphantly.
However.
Just at their most triumphant moment.
A childish yet incredibly calm figure suddenly stepped out from the Void Realm.
The newcomer was a six-year-old child.
He wore a white robe already stained with blood and dust.
The abyss fell silent instantly.
Everyone's gaze converged on that small figure.
It was Gu Yun.
He had returned.
He had walked right into the trap.
After a brief moment of shock, there was wild joy.
"Hahahaha! Truly, one searches high and low for something, only to find it without any effort!"
The Wang Family Qilin Son laughed loudly.
"There is a path to Heaven that you do not take, and you choose to break into the door of Hell!"
The Ji Family Divine Maiden revealed murderous intent in her eyes.
However, seeing Gu Yun, the Gu Zhan pinned to the mountain wall felt his heart and gallbladder split.
He roared hoarsely with all his might.
"Dao child... run!"
"Run!!"
Hearing the desperate roar, Gu Yun's expression did not change in the slightest.
He did not look back.
He just asked softly in a soothing tone.
"Run?"
"Why should I run?"
The next moment, he slowly lifted his head, his gaze sweeping over all the enemies present.
His childish voice clearly reached everyone's ears.
"The ones who should run... are them."
The scene went quiet, then erupted in laughter.
"Hahahaha! What did I just hear?"
The Wang Family Qilin Son laughed so hard he was almost crying.
"Has this little thing been scared stupid? He actually said we should be the ones running?"
The Ji Family Divine Maiden chuckled, her eyes full of contempt.
"How pitiful, driven mad at such a young age."
"He is just a six-year-old child, yet he dares to utter such wild words!"
"Kill him! Take his Saint Body Origin!"
The others looked mocking, their eyes full of killing intent.
They no longer hid their greed and malice.
Facing the mockery and killing intent, Gu Yun's expression remained unchanged.
He swept his gaze over each person: the Ji Family Divine Maiden, the Wang Family Qilin Son, and the masked assassin, Impermanence.
Finally, his gaze landed on the man on the mountain wall, covered in blood and near death.
Gu Yun's lips moved slightly.
A childish yet icy voice echoed in the abyss.
"Those who hurt my Gu Family clansmen..."
He paused, saying each word clearly.
"...shall all die."
The moment he finished speaking, he used the "Heart Sword" he had comprehended in his previous life.
Where the heart points, the sword follows.
He had only one thought: Kill.
Hum.
An invisible, intangible Sword Intent, imperceptible to any Divine Thought, spread out from him as the center.
The dozen Prodigies charging at the front, ready to capture Gu Yun, stopped their savage grins.
They seemed to feel something pass through their bodies.
The next moment.
Their bodies began to silently turn into the finest dust from the inside out.
The previously noisy abyss became instantly dead silent.
The Wang Family Qilin Son's wild laughter turned into terror.
The Ji Family Divine Maiden's eyes widened in shock.
This eerie and domineering scene left them stunned.
Everyone present subconsciously took a step back.
They looked at the six-year-old child, no longer with contempt, but with deep dread.
But the dread lasted only an instant.
The Wang Family Qilin Son thought of something, his eyes flickering.
He transmitted his voice to the Ji Family Divine Maiden and Impermanence nearby: "Don't be scared by him! He must have used some kind of one-time forbidden treasure!"
"That's right, a mere child like him, where would he get such heaven-defying means? It must be a life-saving trump card left by the Gu Family Old Ancestor, and it's gone after one use!"
The Ji Family Divine Maiden's breathing quickened; greed overcame fear once again.
That's it.
It must be that.
How could so many of them, so many Prodigies, be scared away by a six-year-old child?
If it got out, wouldn't it be a huge joke?
Just as everyone's minds were wavering, that figure who had been hiding in the shadows moved.
It was the top assassin, Impermanence.
"I will kill him."
His voice was still raspy, but carried a hint of confidence.
"There must be a gap when activating such a secret technique; now is the best Opportunity."
Before he finished speaking, his figure instantly turned into a nearly invisible shadow, merging into the Void Realm.
This was the top assassination technique of the "Hell" organization: silent, breathless, Impermanence.
He had absolute confidence that he could take his life before Gu Yun could react.
The Ji Family Divine Maiden and the Wang Family Qilin Son wore cruel smiles.
However, Gu Yun did not even turn his head.
He just calmly spat out two words.
"Court death."
Pfft.
A soft sound.
A line of blood appeared out of thin air in the Void Realm in front of Impermanence.
His charging figure stumbled out of the nothingness, looking down in disbelief.
He watched the hole in his chest continue to expand, all life force there completely erased.
"How... possible..."
This was his last sentence left in this world.
Watching the top assassin Impermanence's corpse fall, the Wang Family Qilin Son and the Ji Family Divine Maiden realized things were bad.
Someone let out a shrill scream.
"Run! Run quickly!"
The remaining Prodigies woke up from a dream, no longer caring about the Primordial Chaos Sacred Body or any peerless Opportunity.
They were terrified, turning into streaks of light and fleeing in all directions, cursing their parents for not giving them two more legs.
Gu Yun did not look at the fleeing enemies again.
Because there was something more important waiting for him.
He turned around and walked step by step to the foot of the mountain wall.
He looked up at the man who had shed his last drop of blood for him.
The killing intent in his eyes faded, turning into deep sorrow and self-reproach.
He reached out his childish little hand and channeled strands of purple-gold Primordial Qi into Gu Zhan's body.
"Clan Brother, I'm back."
Under its nourishment, Gu Zhan's shattered Physical Body began to reshape.
Hideous wounds healed, and the broken dao foundation was reconnected.
His life force was recovering rapidly.
Gu Yun's face, however, became increasingly pale.
He could save Gu Zhan's life.
But he soon discovered a heart-wrenching fact.
Because Gu Zhan had forcibly burned his Divine Soul Origin, his true spirit had suffered irreversible damage.
His dao foundation was destroyed.
In this life, his path of cultivation would stop here forever.
This discovery brought Gu Yun's self-reproach and guilt to the extreme.
It was all because of him.
If not for him, Gu Zhan would have had a bright future.
After an unknown amount of time.
Gu Zhan slowly opened his eyes.
He looked at Gu Yun in front of him, not caring about his own body.
He struggled to reach out, wanting to touch Gu Yun's face, his voice weak and concerned.
"Dao child... you're okay... that's great..."
This pure concern made Gu Yun unable to hold back anymore.
The sorrow in his eyes turned into a determination for revenge.
He looked far beyond the Secret Realm, as if he could see the Ji Family, the Wang Family, and that mysterious "Hell" assassin organization.
"Ji Family, Wang Family, Hell..."
"This debt, I, Gu Yun, will surely repay it ten times, a hundred times over!"
Gu Yun helped up Gu Zhan, who had regained the ability to move but whose aura had fallen to that of a Mortal.
His childish voice was incomparably resolute.
"Let's go, Clan Brother."
"I will take you... to kill."
