11: Chapter 11 The Bai Family's Attitude
Fang Zhuo was not unfamiliar with Advanced Martial Artists; his teacher at the Martial Arts Junior College and the manager of the Tengfei Martial Arts Hall were both Advanced Martial Artists.
But they had always been amiable and had never revealed a fierce side.
This was the first time he had been suppressed by the aura of an Advanced Martial Artist.
Bai Qiming ignored Fang Zhuo, only frowning as he looked at Bai Shiwei.
"Dad!"
Bai Shiwei stepped forward, standing in front of Fang Zhuo, and said with an unhappy expression, "Fang Zhuo is greeting you. He and I have already registered our marriage."
"So that is why you returned, to notify me?"
Veins throbbed on Bai Qiming's forehead; he was clearly furious.
He had spent quite a bit of money on this second daughter for her martial arts training, but after she reached Life Level 15, he had advised her to stop practicing martial arts.
To think she would act out of spite, take out loans everywhere, stubbornly continue practicing martial arts, and even casually find a man to marry for that reason?
"What else?"
Bai Shiwei replied coldly, "You said you wouldn't interfere with me anymore, so I don't need to consult you about what I do. Returning this time is simply because Fang Zhuo, out of politeness, insisted on coming back to see you."
"You!"
Bai Qiming's face flushed red, and he raised his hand to slap Bai Shiwei.
A beautiful woman in a black dress hurriedly walked up, held Bai Qiming back, and urged, "Old man, let's talk things over properly."
"Shi Wei, you haven't been home for so long, it's time to let go of your anger. Speak nicely in a moment, and don't upset your father again."
"Hmph."
Bai Qiming snorted heavily and took the opportunity to lower his hand.
Bai Shiwei, not to be outdone, also snorted and refused to look at her father.
Xu Xue stood in the middle, pulling one person with each hand, offering kind advice and mediating. Seeing that the expressions of the father and daughter had softened, she then said, "Let's have a proper conversation about whatever the matter is."
Immediately after, Xu Xue looked at Fang Zhuo: "Fang Zhuo?"
"Yes."
Fang Zhuo nodded.
This mother-in-law looked seventy percent like Bai Shiwei, especially her peach blossom eyes, which were practically carved from the same mold.
Her figure was equally tall, just a bit more voluptuous.
At this moment, Xu Xue lifted her chin slightly, crossed her arms, and looked down at Fang Zhuo with a condescending air.
"Come with me."
After Xu Xue finished speaking, she turned and walked ahead, indifferent to Fang Zhuo's thoughts or feelings.
Bai Shiwei frowned and wanted to say something, but was stopped by a look from Fang Zhuo.
Fang Zhuo followed, gently patting Bai Shiwei's shoulder to signal her not to worry.
The Bai family study.
Xu Xue sat down in a chair first, crossed her arms over her chest, sat with her legs crossed, and then looked at Fang Zhuo and said, "Sit."
"How old are you this year?"
"21."
Fang Zhuo answered truthfully.
Although he couldn't figure out what the mother-in-law wanted to say by finding him alone, he remained calm, prepared to handle whatever came his way.
This was the composure brought by having lived two lives, as well as the confidence gained from having the system.
"21?"
"That's not very old. You're still in university, right? Which Martial Arts Junior College are you at?"
Xu Xue asked knowing the answer; when Bai Shiwei said yesterday she was bringing her husband back, she had been greatly shocked and immediately used connections to check Fang Zhuo's information.
Upon discovering he was just a young, inexperienced kid from a Martial Arts Junior College.
Xu Xue's expression could not have been uglier; her daughter, whom she had raised herself, had been swindled away by such a yellow-haired brat?
Asking this now was just to intentionally make things difficult for Fang Zhuo and give him a 'show of power' first.
"Jinhe Martial Arts Vocational College."
Fang Zhuo smiled and said.
"Oh?"
"This is a Martial Arts Junior College, right?"
Xu Xue asked with feigned surprise, her peach blossom eyes narrowing slightly. This son-in-law didn't seem to feel inferior because of his educational background at all?
Was he really a young man with good character, or was he just feigning calmness, putting on an act?
"Where are you working right now?"
Xu Xue 'concernedly' said, "Shi Wei has been pampered since she was young and is accustomed to spending money lavishly. If you are under financial pressure, you can tell me."
The subtext of these words was, 'What is your income level? Are you worthy of my daughter?'
Fang Zhuo heard the meaning in his mother-in-law's words and remained unperturbed: "I just resigned from the martial arts hall and am preparing to focus on graduation before looking for formal work."
"If I am under pressure, I will speak up."
Xu Xue smiled and said, "That means you don't have a job right now."
Fang Zhuo did not refute this; he pondered slightly, thinking about how to speak.
Seeing Fang Zhuo's unflustered demeanor, Xu Xue's heart wavered. It seemed this cheap son-in-law wasn't that bad, at least his character was good?
A Martial Arts Junior College in the Federation wasn't considered bad, it was just that relative to a family like theirs, it wasn't quite up to par.
Should she persuade the old man to just let the daughter and this young man live their lives in peace?
Xu Xue hesitated.
But then she heard Fang Zhuo say, "Mom, I am from a Martial Arts Junior College, that is true, and I won't make empty boasts, but I will not stop at being a Primary Martial Artist, and in the future, I will never let Shi Wei suffer any grievances."
"What?"
Xu Xue was shocked. If she hadn't heard wrong, did this son-in-law mean he intended to continue practicing martial arts?
She had checked his information very clearly: a Life Level of 15, no Martial Aspect awakened; he could already be declared as having bid farewell to the martial path.
Her husband, as an Advanced Martial Artist, still followed the Federation's recognized principles and had given up on investing in their daughter's martial arts.
Fang Zhuo's family situation was average, and it was even more impossible for them to support him in practicing martial arts.
Without family financial support, how could this young couple continue practicing martial arts?
By taking out loans, stealing, and swindling?
They were crazy!
His temperament was just like her daughter's; it really lived up to the saying, 'If you aren't of the same family, you don't enter the same door.'
Xu Xue had been hesitant before, but now there was no need to struggle. She quickly said with a cold face, "Fang Zhuo, I will speak plainly with you. If you divorce my daughter, my Bai family will give you two million."
"Divorce?"
Fang Zhuo's eyes narrowed slightly, and his gaze turned sharp.
There was a saying about the grace of a day as husband and wife; having registered his marriage with Bai Shiwei two days ago, he had already built up a certain amount of affection. After spending time together, he was very satisfied with Bai Shiwei, whom he had met through an arranged date.
How could he possibly divorce her?
On the other hand, he still had the system; if he got divorced, would the system be completely written off?
"I will not divorce Shi Wei!"
Fang Zhuo's tone was firm.
Xu Xue was somewhat surprised: "Are you sure you won't consider it? Two million; barring any accidents, as a graduate of a Martial Arts Junior College, you might not be able to save up two million even after working hard for twenty years."
Fang Zhuo's voice turned cold as he stared straight at his mother-in-law: "Never mind two million, even twenty million won't do!"
"Is that really what you think?"
Xu Xue was stunned. She couldn't tell if she felt regret or relief in her heart; perhaps it was both?
This son-in-law, with this attitude, could be seen to genuinely like her daughter.
It was a pity that he couldn't awaken a Martial Aspect; his future life was destined to be ordinary, and in all likelihood, he would stop at being a Primary Martial Artist.
...
Living room.
Bai Shiwei had a brief 'exchange' with her father, and after both had vented their emotions at a low intensity.
A girl of fifteen or sixteen ran over.
"Second Sister~~~"
"You finally came back. I heard you brought a brother-in-law; where is he?"
Bai Gubei crashed into Bai Shiwei's arms, burying her head deep into her sister's embrace, and only raised her head after a long while, blinking her big eyes as she asked:
"Is he handsome? Which Martial Arts Junior College did he graduate from? How is his martial arts talent?"
"Are you checking the water meter?"
Bai Shiwei had a face full of black lines, but felt helpless; this was the only sister she was close to in the family, who was very obsessed with martial arts but had no martial arts talent.
"Adult matters, don't ask so many questions, kid."
"I want to care, I want to care."
Bai Gubei stuck out her pink tongue and made a funny face at her second sister.
The two women huddled together, chatting about domestic trifles.
Not long after, a boy of the same age, fifteen or sixteen, returned home.
Bai Heng was shirtless, his sports shirt completely soaked with sweat, and he glanced at Bai Shiwei in the living room with indifference.
Immediately after, he looked at his father and said:
"Dad, the ice-flame marrow-cleansing fruit works well. Can you buy me two more?"
Bai Qiming frowned: "Do you think the ice-flame marrow-cleansing fruit is Chinese cabbage? Just two are enough for you to lay a solid foundation for martial arts."
"You have awakened a Superior Martial Aspect, and your efficiency in absorbing starry sky origin power is very high, so you don't need to rely too much on martial arts training resources."
Bai Shiwei looked at Bai Heng with gloomy eyes.
This was her youngest brother, who had awakened a Superior Martial Aspect at sixteen, was deeply loved by their father, was seen as the hope for the Bai family to reach a higher level in the future, and had also consumed all the family's savings in one go.
The resources she had managed to fight for from her father were also cancelled because of this.
