49: Iron Man Rebellion
Bai Ye greeted them one by one.
The Beast Tamers in this small team were all Rank Two. Their configuration was comprehensive, and their clear division of labor showed they were experienced veterans.
Their beast pets were uniformly at the Transcendent Limit.
Although they were not skilled in direct combat, they should be more than capable of protecting themselves within the Secret Realm.
"Alright, everyone's here. Time is pressing, let's prepare to set off."
Li Feng glanced at his watch and said in a deep voice.
Everyone nodded and followed behind Li Feng, walking toward the back of the junior high school teaching building.
The entrance to the Secret Realm was located there.
They were lucky this time; not a single student or staff member had been drawn into the Secret Realm.
Otherwise, the Association wouldn't have waited for Bai Ye to return; they would have directly dispatched a team of Beast Tamers to bring the students back.
Once ready, the group of seven, led by Li Feng, walked into the Spatial Vortex that emitted a faint blue light.
The moment he passed through the thin barrier, Bai Ye felt the scene before him twist.
When clarity returned, an aura of deathly silence rushed toward him.
It was completely different from the two Secret Realms he had entered before.
There were no dense forests here, no lush green grass. The sky was a hazy gray expanse; neither the sun nor the moon was visible.
What met their eyes was a stretch of ruins that seemed to go on forever.
Under the hazy gray sky, there were collapsed buildings everywhere, broken bridges, and metal wreckage that had been corroded beyond recognition by the passage of time.
"What is this place?"
"It looks like a city?"
"Are you kidding me? How can there be a city inside a Secret Realm?"
The members of the support team who had entered the Secret Realm first gasped in disbelief at the sight before them.
"Quick, Dezhu, record all of this."
Li Feng was the first to react, shouting at the stout man carrying the camera.
Zhao Dezhu quickly activated the equipment, recording the shocking scene.
"This is definitely a major discovery."
The technician Zhang Yu excitedly pushed up his glasses.
"A Secret Realm that hosted a technological civilization—its research value might be even higher than a Rank Six Secret Realm."
Bai Ye was not as agitated as they were; his attention was focused more on the surrounding environment.
He walked up to a collapsed building and picked up a rust-covered steel plate from the ruins.
Engraved on the steel plate were symbols that looked like writing, which he couldn't understand.
"Zhang Yu, come take a look at this," Bai Ye called out.
Zhang Yu quickly ran over and summoned a Mechanical System beast pet that resembled a beetle.
"Data Bug, analyze these writings."
Data Bug's compound eyes lit up red, and it began scanning and rapidly calculating the symbols on the steel plate.
"My beast pet, Data Bug, can analyze and decipher unknown languages and scripts, but it will take some time," Zhang Yu said.
"The value of this Secret Realm might far exceed our imagination."
Li Feng also walked over, looking at the steel plate, barely able to contain his excitement.
"A Secret Realm civilization possessing writing—if reported to the Association, it would definitely be a huge discovery that shakes the entire Xuanhuang Nation."
Everyone's hearts grew fervent.
They might be witnessing history this time.
Bai Ye, however, was not as optimistic as they were.
He stood up, surveying the silent ruins, a sense of foreboding lingering in his heart.
Why did such a vast civilization turn into ruins?
What did they encounter?
Was it a natural disaster? Or... "We'll take a short break here. Sun Qiang, Zhou Li, set up a temporary camp. Wang Qian, check the surroundings for harmful gases."
Li Feng issued instructions methodically. Given the gravity of the situation, they couldn't afford any carelessness.
Half an hour later, Data Bug emitted a "didi" notification sound.
"Captain, it's deciphered!"
Zhang Yu showed an expression of ecstasy.
Everyone gathered around.
A light screen projected from Data Bug's electronic eyes.
On the light screen, a line of deciphered text was clearly presented before everyone.
When they saw the content of the text, everyone's breathing quickened considerably.
"Iron Men... Rebellion... Humanity... Self-Destruction."
The Iron Man Rebellion?
This information was overwhelming.
Just as everyone was still immersed in shock, Bai Ye's ears suddenly twitched.
He abruptly raised his head and looked toward the distant ruins.
"Something is coming."
No sooner had he spoken than several black dots rapidly approached their position from the silent ruins in the distance.
"It's the enemy!"
Li Feng roared, his vocal cords strained.
Danger lurked everywhere in the Secret Realm.
No extra commands were needed; the team members reacted almost instinctively, connecting their Mental Energy, and Summoning Formations lit up beneath their feet!
Two Stone Golems rose from the ground, two Gale Wolves appeared out of thin air, and finally, two Thunder Tigers roared with heads held high, electric arcs dancing across their fur.
The six Transcendent Limit Battle Pets were the team's entire offensive power, surrounding everyone in the center to form an airtight defensive perimeter.
As for the support beast pets, releasing them in this kind of encounter would be pointlessly sacrificing them.
In the shadows of the distant ruins, the black dots were approaching at a terrifying speed, their outlines rapidly expanding.
When Li Feng clearly saw their full appearance, his heart plummeted.
They were not flesh-and-blood creatures at all.
Cold metal reflected the dim sky light. Eight long, sharp legs supported a disk-shaped metal body.
As they moved, they emitted dense, scratching "kacha kacha" sounds, traversing the rugged ruins as easily as walking on flat ground.
In the center of the body, a huge scarlet single eye emitted a red light.
Their speed was too fast.
In the blink of an eye, the group of metal monsters had already charged to the front of their formation.
[Name]: Mechanical Sentry
[attribute]: Mechanical
[Rank]: Intermediate Extraordinary Level
[Skills]: Energy Ray, Metal Claws
[Introduction]: A basic mechanical combat unit, possessing no intelligence, only capable of executing the simplest commands.
"They are Mechanical Demonic Beasts."
Li Feng's expression was extremely grim.
"There are at least thirty of them. Everyone stay focused."
The Mechanical System is one of the most difficult attributes to deal with.
They feel no pain, don't get tired, have ridiculously high defense, and their attack methods are flashy and hard to guard against.
The Stone Golem struck with tremendous force. Its rounded punch landed with a loud bang, instantly smashing the foremost Mechanical Sentry, causing it to completely dent and deform.
However, the Mechanical Sentry's red eye merely flickered, and its eight long metal legs sprang back.
With several "puchi puchi" sounds, they all stabbed into the Stone Golem's body.
The Transcendent Limit rock body was actually easily breached by an attack from a Intermediate Extraordinary Level creature.
The difficulty of this Secret Realm was definitely at the peak of Rank Two, perhaps even able to contend with some Rank Three Secret Realms.
"Damn it, why are these metal lumps so tough?"
Li Feng clenched his back teeth, watching as several holes, spewing rock fragments, appeared on his Stone Golem in an instant.
"The eyes! Attack their eyes!"
Zhang Yu's urgent shout rang out across the battlefield; Data Bug had already analyzed their weak point.
With that command, the tactics immediately changed.
The Gale Wolf deftly dodged the sweeping Metal Claws, then transformed into a green blur, its claws aiming straight for the opponent's single eye.
The red eye shattered.
Electric sparks flew wildly across the Mechanical Sentry, its eight legs twitched, and it instantly collapsed.
It worked.
Knowing the weakness of these metal lumps, the battle situation immediately improved significantly.
But the Mechanical Sentries had too great a numerical advantage. They had no tactics and no fear, only following the command to surround and kill.
When one fell, three or four immediately took its place.
The beast pets were quickly submerged by the tidal wave of metal spiders, with blood and rock fragments constantly spurting from their bodies.
