99: Chapter 99 Dragon in Flight Injects Omega Mutant, National Security Bureau Intervenes

In the main control room, Long Zaifei could only hear the monotonous ticking of the instruments.

The chief engineer slumped in his chair, muttering to himself, "Energy conversion rate... monitoring shows over 40%... this violates the laws of thermodynamics... it's impossible..."

Long Zaifei did not speak.

He quietly watched the shallow crater on the screen, the fragmented warhead at the bottom, and the perfectly intact Fanxing Technology Park. Then, he pulled up the operation logs and began checking the "Xingtian" system's launch records line by line.

His movements were steady and slow.

But everyone could feel it—something inside this man had snapped. It wasn't anger or frustration, but something deeper—the conviction that had sustained him until today had crumbled into dust at this moment.

He thought he was the chess player, believing that holding a strategic weapon like "Xingtian" was enough to crush any opponent.

But Chen Fan had used a miracle that defied physics to tell him: your so-called trump card doesn't even have the right to make me frown.

"Com... Commander..." a young technician spoke up timidly, "Graden Headquarters has sent a seventh inquiry. They demand an immediate explanation for this unauthorized launch and order you to... return to headquarters to face the Arbitration Committee's inquiry."

Long Zaifei closed the communication request.

He turned around, looked at the subordinates who had followed him for years in the main control room, and suddenly let out a very soft laugh.

There was no warmth in that laughter.

He now knew what kind of opponent Long Zaitian had been facing. Perhaps Long Zaitian wasn't stupid; it was simply because the opponent was too powerful.

Long Zaifei walked out of the main control room alone and into the private laboratory at the deepest part of the base. He opened the silver refrigerated cabinet that required triple biometric identification and took out the only item inside—

A syringe filled with a viscous, dark red liquid.

The liquid writhed slowly inside the tube, as if it were alive.

The syringe label was printed with a simple symbol: Ω

Below it was a line of small text:

[Project Number: Zero-Ω]

[Codename: Flesh Ascension]

[Warning: This sample originates from 'The Other Shore'; its use will irreversibly cause the user to transcend the scope of human life forms]

Long Zaifei did not hesitate.

He pressed the syringe against his carotid artery and pushed the plunger.

The moment the dark red liquid flooded his blood vessels, his entire body began to convulse violently! Twisted veins bulged under his skin, his eyeballs became bloodshot, and a non-human rasping sound escaped his throat.

But he gritted his teeth and did not let go.

Until the entire tube of liquid was injected.

Three minutes later, the convulsions stopped.

Long Zaifei slowly climbed up from the floor, his movements somewhat stiff, somewhat... unhuman. He walked to the mirror and looked at his reflection.

Deep in his pupils, a hint of dark red slowly spread.

"Chen Fan..." His voice had changed, gaining a raspy, metallic quality, "You blocked the spear of 'Xingtian'."

"Then next... try a monster returned from 'The Other Shore'."

---

Shanghai, Fanxing Factory Base Office.

Chen Fan slumped in his office chair, drenched in cold sweat. The aftereffects of the Amplification system's overload were still throbbing in his nerve endings, every heartbeat bringing a sting of pain.

"Boss, the analysis of the impact point residue is complete," Xiao Zhi's voice sounded. "Trace amounts of 'Palladium-13' isotopes were detected inside the projectile—this is a common marker for interstellar navigation beacons."

Chen Fan rubbed his temples.

He walked to the window; dawn was approaching.

The time was 5:40 AM.

The piercing air-raid sirens had just ceased, and the perimeter of the park was surrounded by flashing police lights. A convoy of twelve black government vehicles drove into the park gates, the logos of the "National Security Bureau" and the "Military-Industrial Technology Security Department" exceptionally prominent in the morning light.

Inside the main control center, Chen Fan watched the rapidly advancing investigation team on the surveillance screen and whispered, "What was bound to come has arrived. With an attack of this level, it's impossible for the state not to intervene."

Before he finished speaking, the alloy door of the main control center slid open. Seven personnel in dark uniforms filed in, led by a stern-faced middle-aged man around fifty years old. The two bars and four stars on his epaulets indicated his high-ranking status within the national security system.

"Mr. Chen Fan, I am Zhou Weiguo, Director of the Special Investigation Office of the National Security Bureau." The middle-aged man presented his credentials, his tone serious yet polite. "We need to understand the details of the high-speed impact event that occurred near your park at 5:14 AM."

Chen Fan nodded and gestured for Xiao Zhi to pull up the holographic data panel. "Director Zhou, please sit. That was an electromagnetic railgun projectile launched from the Northwest. It had a mass of 127 kilograms, an initial velocity of 7.8 kilometers per second, and was aimed at my factory building."

"With an attack of this level, the factory should have been razed to the ground by now," Zhou Weiguo judged based on experience.

"I placed a plasma shield over the factory," Chen Fan explained calmly.

The accompanying staff members' jaws nearly dropped in shock.

He pulled up another set of data: "I detected 'Palladium-13' isotope markers in the impact residue. This stuff is usually used for interstellar navigation beacons and is extremely rare on Earth. Based on ballistic back-calculation, I've locked onto the precise coordinates of the launch source."

The holographic map expanded, and a red dot began to flash in the Northwest desert.

Coordinates: Latitude 4°12'37" N, Longitude 94°48'22" E

Elevation: -83 meters (underground facility)

Error Radius: ≤ 5 meters

Zhou Weiguo's gaze suddenly sharpened. "Are you sure?"

"The error won't exceed fifty meters," Chen Fan said with certainty. "The projectile was affected by atmospheric disturbances and geomagnetic deflection during flight. My AI system has performed seven rounds of trajectory inversion calculations. This coordinate point is the launch position of that electromagnetic railgun projectile."

The investigation team fell into a brief silence. Zhou Weiguo exchanged a look with the representative from the Military-Industrial Technology Security Department beside him, then stood up quickly. "Mr. Chen, this intelligence is extremely important. We need to report this immediately and take action. Please keep your communication lines open; we may need your technical support later."

"I will cooperate at any time," Chen Fan said solemnly. "But please be careful—someone capable of launching an attack with such a weapon will never just sit and wait for death."
