2: Chapter 2 Half a Piece of Dragon Jade

Hearing his son's voice, Mo Shoutian looked in the direction where Mo Xiaochuan was.

By this time, it was completely dark, and he could not see very clearly. He could only make out that the thing in Mo Xiaochuan's hand was small, faintly reflecting light in the night.

Mo Shoutian walked over.

After getting closer, he saw clearly that it was a crystal-clear piece of jade.

The shape of the jade was like a semicircle, with a dragon carved on it.

Mo Shoutian took the jade from his son's hands and examined it carefully for a moment, finding that this piece of jade did not seem complete and should be missing the other half.

Because it was too dark, he couldn't see the details on the jade, so he could only reach out and touch the broken edge.

The roughness transmitted from his fingertips made him even more certain that this piece of jade was indeed incomplete.

Thinking of the conversation between the two Immortals earlier, Mo Shoutian felt a stir in his heart.

The reason those two fought to the death seemed to be precisely to compete for a piece of jade.

Viewed this way, the broken jade in his hand must not be any ordinary object.

"Dad, what is this thing?"

Mo Shoutian looked at his son, then glanced at the broken jade in his hand, without explaining too much.

"It shouldn't be an ordinary object. Let's put it away for now."

After finishing, he put the broken jade carved with dragon patterns into the cloth bag filled with glowing stones.

A few minutes later, the father and son re-checked the two corpses.

No other things were found on the one-armed man's body.

As for the corpse hiding the broken jade, there was likewise a small cloth bag on it.

Inside were more than twenty glowing stones, which were much more than the ones in the one-armed man's cloth bag.

Mo Shoutian collected all these things.

Afterwards, the father and son carried the two corpses into the old forest and threw them in a place frequently haunted by beasts.

Looking at the two Immortal corpses on the ground, Mo Shoutian still felt somewhat uneasy.

He asked Mo Xiaochuan to help again, stripping all the clothes off the two corpses.

After finishing this, he breathed a slight sigh of relief.

Mo Shoutian looked at his son standing aside and covered in sweat, earnestly instructing:

"Xiaochuan, you cannot tell anyone about what happened today."

"Including your mother."

Mo Xiaochuan nodded.

"I know, Dad."

Mo Shoutian still felt somewhat uneasy.

He led his son along the original path to check again, making sure nothing was dropped and no overly obvious traces were left, before bringing Mo Xiaochuan down the mountain.

By the time the father and son walked to the village entrance, it was already late at night.

Most households in the village had turned off their lights, and only a few windows still glowed with dim yellow light.

Among them was Mo Shoutian's home.

Mo Shoutian glanced at the bundle strapped to his back.

The bundle contained the clothes of the two Immortals.

He originally wanted to bury these clothes on the mountain, but after thinking about it carefully, he felt it was inappropriate, so he brought them back instead, preparing to burn them all after returning home.

Walking to the front door of his home, Mo Shoutian looked at his son once more.

"Don't forget what to say when we get home in a moment."

Mo Xiaochuan nodded.

Mo Shoutian looked around in a circle again, making sure no one was there before leading his son towards their home.

Inside the house, Mo Shoutian's wife, Liu Chunmei, was sitting under an oil lamp doing needlework.

From time to time, she would stop her actions and glance in the direction of the courtyard gate.

Ever since the loud noise came from Baitou Mountain yesterday, she had been constantly worried about the safety of the father and son.

In the past, when Mo Shoutian took his son into the mountains to hunt, even if they didn't return for a few days, she wouldn't worry too much.

Because she knew her man's ability.

Mo Shoutian was a famously good hunter in the village.

But the commotion made on Baitou Mountain yesterday was simply too huge, how could she not worry?

Right at this moment, the courtyard gate was pushed open with a creak.

As soon as the father and son walked into the courtyard, Liu Chunmei walked out of the house holding a broom.

"Dear, are you two all right?"

As she spoke, she walked up in front of the two of them and used the broom to sweep the accumulated snow off their bodies.

"You woman."

"If something really happened to the two of us, could we still be standing here?"

Hearing Mo Shoutian say this, the strength in Liu Chunmei's broom suddenly increased a bit.

"Aren't I worried about you two..."

Before she finished speaking, the broom in her hand suddenly stopped.

She smelled the stench of blood.

That was not the smell from a prey, but the smell of human blood.

As a hunter's wife, she was very certain about this point.

Mo Shoutian knew she had discovered the abnormality and said in a low voice:

"Let's go inside the house first and talk."

Having said that, he walked into the house first.

Mo Xiaochuan followed behind his father, while Liu Chunmei walked at the very end, casually closing the room door.

Standing in the courtyard just now, the light was dim, and she didn't see clearly.

After entering the house, by the dim yellow light on the table, she discovered that the clothes of the father and son were stained with quite a few dark red traces.

She knew those were all bloodstains.

Before she could open her mouth to ask, Mo Xiaochuan said according to the wording discussed on the way:

"Mom, we met the bandits sent out to scout the path by Ma Kui on the mountain."

"Father and I were afraid he would go back to report the news and bring bandits to devastate the village, so we killed him."

Hearing these words, Liu Chunmei let out an obvious sigh of relief.

A group of bandits was hidden deep in Baitou Mountain, and their leader was called Ma Kui.

Those bandits often went down the mountain to rob food and property, and sometimes they even hurt people.

There were many hunters in Mo Family Village, and they had exchanged blows with the bandits a few times before.

That group of bandits couldn't gain much advantage and instead lost quite a few people. Of course, Mo Family Village also had people die in their hands.

Therefore, when hunters in the village met bandits scouting the path in the mountains, they generally would not let the other party go back alive.

Although Liu Chunmei let out a sigh of relief, she still stepped forward and carefully felt over the bodies of the father and son.

"Then did you two get injured?"

"Father and I are both fine."

After saying this, Mo Xiaochuan glanced at his father and said with a somewhat spoiled tone:

"But Mom, Father and I have been nearly starved to death these past two days."

Hearing that her son could still cry out of hunger, Liu Chunmei completely set her mind at ease.

"It's good that you aren't injured."

"Mom will go make food for you right now."

People in Mo Family Village often had to go into the mountains to hunt when winter arrived.

The men sometimes couldn't eat a bite of hot food for days, so even if they came back in the middle of the night, their family members would still make them a hot meal first.

Watching Liu Chunmei walk towards the kitchen, Mo Shoutian looked at his son and nodded gently.

He was very satisfied with his son's performance just now.

Although Mo Xiaochuan was only thirteen years old, whether it was his calmness when encountering matters or his courage during hunting, he was no worse than him.

If Mo Xiaochuan hadn't acted in time today, he probably would have already died on the mountain.

Mo Xiaochuan glanced at the bulging bundle behind his father's back and said:

"Dad, you rest for a while first, I'll go deal with these clothes."

Mo Shoutian nodded.

"Go ahead, be a bit careful."

After his son left, Mo Shoutian took off his outer garment and threw it on the ground, then sat down by the kang.

He took out those two small cloth bags from his bosom.

When he was on the mountain just now, his mind was only set on dealing with the corpses as quickly as possible, coupled with the fact that it was too dark outside, so he hadn't carefully inspected that broken jade carved with dragon patterns.

Things that could make two Immortals risk their lives to compete for were definitely not ordinary objects.

Mo Shoutian opened the small cloth bag containing the broken jade.

After seeing the situation inside clearly, he was momentarily stunned.

He remembered very clearly.

When he put the broken jade inside just now, there were clearly more than a dozen glowing stones in the cloth bag.

But now, not a single one of those stones was to be found.

Only that piece of broken jade was left in the cloth bag.

And the dragon carved on the surface of the broken jade also seemed a bit more rounded than before.

Could it be that this piece of jade ate those glowing stones?

As soon as this thought appeared, Mo Shoutian shook his head himself.

How could that be possible?

Even if this broken jade truly were an Immortal's treasure, it couldn't eat things like a person.

But where on earth did those glowing stones go?

Thump, thump, thump!

Right at this moment, a burst of knocking suddenly came from outside the courtyard gate.

Mo Shoutian was so startled that his body shuddered, and he instinctively gripped the cloth bag in his hand tightly.
