45: Chapter 45 The Sword That Cuts Water
After making all the arrangements, Mo Shoutian went to Mo Changlin's house.
Mo Changlin's house was also vastly different from a year ago.
Although it couldn't compare to Mo Shoutian's house, it was still one of the top-tier brick-and-tile houses in the village.
At that moment, Mo Changlin was in the courtyard repairing a carriage wheel, with his son Mo Qingshi assisting him on the side.
"Busy, Uncle Changlin?"
Turning around and seeing that it was Mo Shoutian, Mo Changlin stood up and said,
"Shoutian is here."
Mo Qingshi also chimed in and called out,
"Uncle Shoutian."
Mo Shoutian nodded.
"Uncle Changlin, I came over to discuss something with you."
"Alright, let's go inside to talk."
Mo Changlin handed what was in his hands to Mo Qingshi and led Mo Shoutian into the house.
After entering the house, Mo Changlin poured water while saying,
"Shoutian, you must want to talk about the Xianrengu Market, right?"
Mo Shoutian smiled.
"Nothing can be kept from Uncle Changlin."
"When do you plan to go?"
"I was thinking of setting off tomorrow."
"Alright, I have no problem with that."
Mo Changlin handed the water to Mo Shoutian and continued,
"Shoutian, I also have a matter I'd like to discuss with you. See if this is acceptable."
"Uncle Changlin, please go ahead."
"Over the past year or more, Chen Wanshan, Mo Qingshi, and I have made many trips to Jiuzhou City. We've become familiar with Manager Qiu over there, as well as the people at the Zhou Family Pharmacy."
"I was thinking that from now on, Mo Qingshi can lead the team to Jiuzhou City, while Chen Wanshan and I will go to Xianren Valley."
Without thinking too much about it, Mo Shoutian agreed directly.
"Alright, Uncle Changlin, we'll do as you say."
Afterwards, the two chatted more about matters concerning the caravan, and Mo Shoutian returned home.
Just as he walked to the courtyard gate, he saw a carriage parked outside.
Looking closely, it seemed to belong to Chen Wanshan's family. Only then did he remember Chen Wanshan mentioning a few days ago that he would bring his daughter over to stay for a few days.
Mo Shoutian walked into the courtyard and immediately saw Chen Wanshan sitting on a chair on one side of the main hall, drinking tea, with a rectangular box placed beside him.
Next to Chen Wanshan sat a girl around Mo Xiaochuan's age, and Liu Chunmei was holding her hand and talking to her.
As soon as Mo Shoutian entered the main hall, Chen Wanshan stood up.
"Brother Shoutian, today I've brought my little daughter to your estate to impose on you for a few days."
Mo Shoutian smiled and said,
"Brother Chen, what are you saying? Yesterday Chunmei was still talking to me about when you folks would arrive."
Chen Wanshan turned his head and said to the girl beside him,
"Xiuyun, this is your Uncle Mo."
Chen Xiuyun quickly bowed in greeting.
"Hello, Uncle Mo."
Only then did Mo Shoutian carefully examine this future daughter-in-law.
Chen Xiuyun had a delicate face shape, fair and clean skin, curved eyebrows, and a pair of dark, bright eyes.
Her nose bridge was petite, her lips were rosy, and when she smiled, two shallow dimples would appear on her cheeks.
She wore a light cyan padded jacket, with tiny white flowers embroidered on the collar and cuffs, and a light blue long skirt on her lower body.
Her pitch-black hair was neatly combed and braided into a long braid at the back of her head, tied with a red cord at the end.
She didn't wear much jewelry, wearing only a pair of delicate silver pendants by her ears.
The more Mo Shoutian looked at this daughter-in-law, the more he liked her, nodding repeatedly.
"Good, good."
Liu Chunmei also took out her own dowry bracelet.
"Xiuyun, this was given to me by my maiden family when I got married. Your auntie doesn't have anything better to give you, so take this as a gift."
Chen Xiuyun didn't reach out to take it immediately, instead glancing at Chen Wanshan first.
Chen Wanshan smiled and said,
"Xiuyun, just accept it. This is a gift from your future mother-in-law."
Hearing the words "future mother-in-law," Chen Xiuyun's face instantly turned red.
"Thank you, Auntie."
Seeing her accept it, Liu Chunmei smiled so wide her mouth couldn't close.
Just at that moment, Mo Xiaochuan walked in from outside.
"Dad."
Mo Shoutian nodded.
Mo Xiaochuan turned around and cupped his fists toward Chen Wanshan.
"Hello, Uncle Chen."
"Good."
Chen Wanshan pointed at Chen Xiuyun beside him and said,
"Xiaochuan, this is my daughter Chen Xiuyun. She's a year younger than you."
After speaking, he said to Chen Xiuyun,
"Xiuyun, call him Brother Xiaochuan."
Chen Xiuyun looked at Mo Xiaochuan with a red face.
"Hello, Brother Xiaochuan."
Hearing her address him like that, Mo Xiaochuan's face turned red as well.
Seeing the two children's expressions, Mo Shoutian, his wife, and Chen Wanshan all burst into hearty laughter.
After laughing, Chen Wanshan said to Mo Xiaochuan,
"Xiaochuan, close the door."
Mo Xiaochuan nodded, turned around, and closed the door of the main hall.
Once the door was closed, Chen Wanshan continued,
"Xiaochuan, as your future father-in-law, I'm also giving you a gift."
As he spoke, he picked up the rectangular box placed on the floor.
Before the box was even opened, Mo Xiaochuan felt a strong surge of Spiritual Qi coming from inside.
Speaking, Chen Wanshan opened the lid of the box.
Inside lay a long sword over three feet long.
The scabbard was pitch-black throughout, with no extra patterns on it, engraved only with a few simple cloud motifs at the hilt.
Chen Wanshan took the long sword out of the box and drew it a third of the way.
The silvery-white blade was revealed, shimmering with a cold glint under the sunlight.
Inside the room, except for Chen Xiuyun who was still secretly glancing at Mo Xiaochuan, everyone else's gaze fell upon the sword in Chen Wanshan's hand.
"Xiaochuan, this is an immortal sword passed down from my family's ancestors, named Severing Water. See if you like it."
As he spoke, Chen Wanshan handed the sword to Mo Xiaochuan.
Mo Xiaochuan reached out and took the long sword.
As soon as the sword entered his hand, he felt a sudden weight in his hand.
The sword looked light, but holding it in his hand, it was considerably heavier than an ordinary long sword.
Following that, a chilly breath came from the hilt, slipping along his palm and drilling into his arm.
The Spiritual Qi within Mo Xiaochuan's body also stirred in response.
Upon sensing the Spiritual Qi inside Mo Xiaochuan, the Severing Water Sword in his hand trembled slightly, and at the same time, a low sword hum came from within the scabbard.
Mo Shoutian spoke up, saying,
"Brother Chen, this gift is much too precious."
Chen Wanshan smiled and waved his hand.
"No matter how precious an immortal sword is, how can it compare to my precious daughter?"
"It won't be long before Xiuyun enters the Mo Family's household. What is there for a father like me to be reluctant to give?"
After saying this, he looked back at Mo Xiaochuan.
"Xiaochuan, do you like this gift Uncle Chen gave you?"
"Uncle Chen, I like it, but this gift is simply too precious."
Hearing this, Chen Wanshan smiled and said,
"As long as you like it. Precious or not, I only hope you won't let Xiuyun down in the future."
Mo Xiaochuan turned his head to look at Chen Xiuyun, right as he collided with her stealthy glance, causing both of their faces to blush a few shades redder.
"Uncle Chen, rest assured. I will never let Xiuyun down in the future."
"Good, I've noted those words. If you ever truly dare to bully Xiuyun, I, her father-in-law, won't stand for it."
Mo Shoutian looked at the sky outside and said to Liu Chunmei,
"Chunmei, it's getting late. Make a few extra dishes tonight so Brother Chen and I can have a good few drinks."
Liu Chunmei smiled and stood up.
"Alright, I'll go right now."
Chen Xiuyun also stood up along with her.
"Auntie, I'll go help you."
"No need, Xiuyun. You just arrived, sit down and rest a bit."
After speaking, Liu Chunmei turned her head to look at Mo Xiaochuan.
"Xiaochuan, keep Xiuyun company and chat for a bit."
