9: Chapter 9 No Longer Being Trampled Underfoot
When Mo Shoutian returned to the main room, Liu Chunmei had not yet gone to sleep.
"Is Xiaochuan's bow fixed?"
Mo Shoutian did not answer his wife, but instead looked out into the courtyard.
Feeling that his actions were somewhat strange, Liu Chunmei also followed suit and looked around outside the window, but she couldn't make out anything at all.
"Dear, what are you looking at in the middle of the night?"
Mo Shoutian sat down beside Liu Chunmei, very close to her.
Liu Chunmei's heart skipped a beat.
The couple were both around thirty years old, and she didn't stand on ceremony either, pursing her lips and leaning toward Mo Shoutian.
"What are you doing?"
Mo Shoutian asked, looking at his wife's approaching lips.
This time Liu Chunmei wasn't having it.
"What do you mean, what am I doing? You came and sat right next to me, so what, was I wrong to play along?"
Mo Shoutian sighed and muttered softly:
"This woman only ever thinks about these things."
Although his voice wasn't loud, since the two of them were sitting so close, how could Liu Chunmei possibly not hear him?
"What, aren't you thinking about this stuff?"
"Back when we just got married, who was it that couldn't even wait for dark every day, clinging to me all impatient and eager?"
Seeing that Liu Chunmei had opened the floodgates and was about to keep going, Mo Shoutian hurriedly interrupted her.
"I'm going to tell you a secret, one that concerns the lives of our entire Family and even the whole village."
Seeing him speaking so seriously, Liu Chunmei immediately swallowed the words that were on the tip of her tongue.
"Dear, what kind of secret could affect the lives of our entire Family and the whole village?"
Mo Shoutian glanced outside the house again before lowering his voice and saying:
"You know about how I led the villagers up the mountain every day a while ago, right?"
Liu Chunmei nodded.
"Weren't those Immortals making you guys look for some Double Dragon Jade, as well as the corpses of Immortals?"
Mo Shoutian nodded.
"That piece of jade is right in our house now."
"Ah!"
Liu Chunmei had barely let out half a cry before Mo Shoutian clamped a hand over her mouth.
"Keep it down! Do you want to get yourself killed?"
At this point, Liu Chunmei was so frightened that her whole body began to tremble.
"Dear, if those Immortals find out about this, our whole Family really won't survive."
Mo Shoutian placed his hand over Liu Chunmei's.
"If our Family always stays like this, even if our generation can live well, what about the next generation? What about the generation of our grandchildren?"
"Today, an Immortal from the Baihe Sect killed the village chief, Uncle Changfu. Tomorrow, some Black Crane Sect might come and kill everyone else in the village."
"Sooner or later, it will be our Family's turn."
"And a while ago, when the Immortals fought on Baitou Mountain, you didn't see it, but I saw it with my own eyes."
"So many mountain peaks were blasted flat. If the next time they fight is right here in Mo Family Village, will there be any living people left in our village?"
Hearing this, Liu Chunmei also understood her man's meaning.
"But what can we do?"
Mo Shoutian glanced outside the window again and lowered his voice to say:
"Our Family is going to produce an Immortal as well."
Afterwards, he told Liu Chunmei the whole story from beginning to end, starting from the day the father and son hid in the cave up until Mo Xiaochuan taking Qingli as his Master tonight.
From initial fear, Liu Chunmei gradually grew somewhat excited.
Her own son was about to become an Immortal; how could she not be excited?
After finishing the whole story, Mo Shoutian looked at Liu Chunmei and said:
"One day, our Mo Family will also become a Cultivating Family."
"Not to step others underfoot."
"It's so that no one can ever step us underfoot again."
After hearing this, Liu Chunmei nodded heavily.
"Then what should I do from now on?"
"Keep it a secret."
Mo Shoutian said:
"Don't let anyone enter Xiaochuan's room, and that includes you—don't go in casually either."
That night, Mo Shoutian and Liu Chunmei hardly closed their eyes.
Mo Xiaochuan in the next room also didn't sleep all night.
By this time, he had already sensed Spiritual Qi entering his body.
Although he hadn't rested the entire night, he didn't feel the slightest bit sleepy.
This was also the first time he truly experienced what difference there really was between those who Cultivate and Mortals.
Early the next morning, after Mo Shoutian and Liu Chunmei got up, the couple cast glances toward their son's room from time to time.
Although they couldn't see anything, they still couldn't help wanting to look.
Finally, Mo Shoutian spoke up:
"Go make some food and get more meat for Xiaochuan to properly nourish himself."
Liu Chunmei nodded and went to the kitchen.
The clattering and banging noises usually made when cooking were much quieter today, for fear of disturbing their son.
As for Mo Shoutian, he sat in the room and began calculating where to get Spirit Stones.
After much deliberation, he finally made a decision.
He would go to the town to take a look first, and if that really didn't work out, he would head to Jiuzhou City.
There were many Immortals there.
A place with many Immortals would definitely have Spirit Stones.
Mo Shoutian calculated bit by bit in his heart, and in the blink of an eye, it was noon.
The door to Mo Xiaochuan's room was finally pushed open.
The couple, who had been sitting on the kang, immediately stood up.
Mo Xiaochuan walked into the main room.
"Dad, Mom."
The couple nodded, and at the same time, they noticed the changes on Mo Xiaochuan's body.
Although he had only cultivated for a single night, his whole person already looked somewhat different from before.
First, his skin was much fairer than before.
Although he wasn't particularly dark before, he had spent year after year following Mo Shoutian into the mountains to hunt, so naturally he couldn't have been very fair.
Secondly, his overall energy and spirit were much better than before.
Seeing his parents staring intently at him, Mo Xiaochuan asked:
"Dad, did you tell Mom everything?"
Mo Shoutian nodded, then continued to ask:
"Is there any discomfort in your body?"
Mo Xiaochuan first glanced outside the courtyard before saying:
"Dad, Mom, I've been cultivating from last night until now, and my body doesn't feel uncomfortable at all. On the contrary, I feel great, and I'm not sleepy at all."
Saying this, he paused for a moment.
"Master kept praising me for having great talent, saying that in less than a month I can reach the third tier Qi Drawing Late Stage."
Although Mo Shoutian didn't understand what the third tier Qi Drawing Late Stage of the First Realm was, the stone in his heart finally dropped completely.
He had previously worried that his son's body might have some problems after he started cultivating.
Now it seemed he had been worrying needlessly.
"Mom, I'm a bit hungry."
Hearing this, Liu Chunmei hurriedly said:
"The food is in the pot. Mom made your favorite venison, I'll bring it right over."
As she spoke, she went to the kitchen.
After Liu Chunmei left, Mo Shoutian asked:
"Xiaochuan, how many Spirit Stones do you have left now?"
"There are still sixteen left."
Mo Xiaochuan said:
"Dad, these Spirit Stones are still enough for three or four months, you don't need to rush. When I'm done cultivating enough, I'll think of a way to get some."
Hearing this, Mo Shoutian said:
"Xiaochuan, you don't need to worry about the matter of Spirit Stones."
"Right now, all you need to do is Cultivate steadily. When you are needed, Dad will naturally tell you."
"But Dad, where are you going..."
Before Mo Xiaochuan finished his sentence, he was interrupted by Mo Shoutian.
"You don't need to worry about this."
"What you need to do right now is just Cultivate steadily."
Just at that moment, Liu Chunmei walked into the room carrying a large plate of venison.
"Xiaochuan, hurry and eat."
"Your dad and I have already eaten, this was specifically saved for you."
Mo Xiaochuan nodded and began to eat heartily.
After eating his fill, he returned to his own room and continued to Cultivate.
Looking at their son's changes, both husband and wife wore expressions of joy on their faces.
At this time, Mo Shoutian said:
"I plan to make a trip to the town and might stay for a few extra days."
"While I'm not home, you should pay more attention."
Liu Chunmei looked at him and asked:
"Why did you suddenly think of going to town?"
"To buy some things we'll need."
"When are you leaving?"
Mo Shoutian said as he put on his shoes:
"Now."
