48: Chapter 48 That old guy is too cunning

Mo Shoutian and the other two walked into the Executive Hall and came to the counter on the Xuanyang Sect's side.

Sitting behind the counter was a man in his forties, wearing the same dark red robe as the Disciples guarding the valley.

The man looked up and asked,

"What business are you here for?"

Mo Shoutian took out the xuanyang token and placed it on the counter.

"We are people from the Mo Family of Baitou Mountain, and we'd like to rent a shop in the market to sell things from large beasts."

The man picked up the xuanyang token, took a look at it, and then opened the booklet in front of him.

"There is still an empty shop near the carriage yard. It's not very big, but there is a storage room for goods in the back. It costs two Low-Grade Spirit Stones per month. Do you want it?"

Mo Shoutian asked,

"Can the rent be paid month by month?"

"If you pay for a full year upfront, you can save two Spirit Stones. If you don't have enough Spirit Stones on hand, you can also pay monthly for the first year."

Mo Shoutian discussed it with Chen Wanshan for a moment, then took out two Spirit Stones and paid a month's rent in advance.

The man noted the Mo Family's name in the booklet and called over a young Xuanyang Sect Disciple to take the three of them to see the shop.

The shop was not far from the Executive Hall. There was only a single storefront in the front, and in the back, besides the room for stacking goods, there was also a small courtyard.

The counter and shelves inside were all ready-made, though they were covered in quite a bit of dust.

Chen Wanshan walked around the shop and pushed open the back door to take a look.

"Although the place is a bit small, in the future when animal skins and bones are transported here, we can just unload them directly from the back door."

Mo Shoutian asked,

"Is this place enough?"

"It's definitely enough to start with. If it really can't hold everything, it just means our business is taking off, and it won't be too late to switch to a larger shop then."

The three discussed it in the shop for a while and decided to return to Mo Family Village first, re-select the existing items, and then deliver the first batch of goods.

They locked the shop door and left Xianren Valley that very day.

When the few of them returned to Mo Family Village, it was already noon the next day.

Mo Shoutian had someone summon Mo Shouyi, Mo Shoucheng, Mo Dashan, and the others.

Everyone came to the main hall, and Mo Shoutian recounted what he had seen in Xianren Valley this time.

When he mentioned that a Giant Tiger with a beast core could sell for two Spirit Stones for just a single front paw, Mo Shoucheng couldn't help saying,

"How much silver did Qiu Wansheng give us for the large beasts we sold him in the past, when the tiger paws, tendons, and bones were all counted together?"

Mo Changlin sat aside and said,

"That old fellow surnamed Qiu hasn't made a small profit off us over the past year and more."

Mo Shouyi also chimed in,

"Since we've already rented a shop in Xianren Valley, why sell to him in the future? Wouldn't it be fine to send everything to our own shop?"

Mo Shoutian didn't answer immediately, but instead looked at Chen Wanshan.

Chen Wanshan spoke up,

"The business in Jiuzhou City cannot be cut off yet."

Mo Shoucheng was somewhat puzzled.

"Since we all know these things can be sold for Spirit Stones, why do we still need to sell to him?"

"Because the Mo Family not only needs Spirit Stones, but also has to use silver."

Chen Wanshan counted on his fingers and said,

"Buying horses and carts, and paying wages to the villagers, which of those doesn't require silver?"

"The Cultivators in Xianren Valley look down on ordinary beast meat and mountain goods, so these things will continue to be sold to my Senior Brother Qiu Wansheng in the future. As for any large beasts with beast cores inside their bodies, we will pick out the beast cores and those things worth Spirit Stones, place them in our shop in Xianren Valley, and sell them ourselves."

Mo Dashan understood.

"You mean the good things are sent to Xianren Valley, and ordinary things are still sent to Jiuzhou City?"

"Pretty much, but we can't divide it too cleanly either."

Chen Wanshan continued,

"Qiu Wansheng and the Zhou Family have been doing business with us for over a year. It's fine if the goods sent to Jiuzhou City are fewer in the future, but we can't suddenly not have a single good item left."

"After a long time, they will naturally know that the Mo Family has opened a shop in Xianren Valley. There's no need for us to hide it. As long as there is still business to be done on both sides, they won't go against silver."

Mo Shoutian took over the conversation and said,

"In the past, the Mo Family had no other path to take, and Qiu Wansheng was willing to accept our large beasts and helped us quite a bit. Making a profit from the middle is his ability, and there's nothing much to say about this."

"Now that we have an extra path, we can't block off the previous path either."

Mo Dashan asked,

"Then how should these things be divided in the future?"

Mo Shoutian thought for a moment and said,

"Most of the beast meat, ordinary beast skins, beast bones, and ordinary medicinal herbs collected from the village will still be sent to Jiuzhou City as usual."

"As for the beast cores, as well as the beast tendons, paws, and teeth of those large beasts with beast cores, leave a little for Shopkeeper Qiu first, and send the rest to Xianren Valley."

"Old medicinal herbs with age should also be picked out separately. If they can't be sold in Xianren Valley, then send them to Zhou Family Pharmacy."

Chen Wanshan went on to say,

"We can bring a few more varieties for the first batch of goods, and there's no need to rush whether they can be sold or not. First, find out the price of each item clearly, and after returning, we will naturally know how to divide them in the future."

Everyone then discussed the arrangement of manpower.

Chen Wanshan was responsible for staying in Xianren Valley to run the shop.

Mo Changlin was responsible for delivering goods to Xianren Valley.

Mo Shouyi, Mo Shoucheng, Mo Dashan, and Mo Xiaoshan were responsible for leading the team to continue hunting large beasts in the back mountain.

Mo Qingshi was responsible for delivering goods to Jiuzhou City.

After Mo Shoutian arranged these matters, everyone went off to get busy with their respective tasks.

Just as Chen Wanshan was about to leave, Mo Shoutian called out to him.

"Brother Chen, whether the Mo Family can gain a foothold in Xianren Valley this time depends entirely on you."

Chen Wanshan smiled and said,

"With me here, aren't you still at ease?"

"Brother Chen, there is one more matter."

Mo Shoutian glanced toward the door and lowered his voice a bit.

"I would like to ask you for a favor."

"What is it?"

"When you are in Xianrengu Market, please help me keep an eye out and see if anyone mentions half a piece of jade."

"Half a piece of jade? What jade?"

Mo Shoutian did not elaborate.

"It's not that I don't trust Brother Chen, but this matter concerns the life and death of Mo Family Village, so I cannot speak of it. Brother Chen just needs to keep a lookout for me and see if anyone mentions half a piece of jade."

Hearing him say this, Chen Wanshan did not continue to press the matter.

"I've noted it down."

"If there is nothing else, Uncle Changlin and I will go to the warehouse to tidy things up. Tomorrow, I will take Xiuyun back to Qingshi Town first, and then go to Xianren Valley to wait for Uncle Changlin to deliver the goods."

Mo Shoutian nodded.

"Do as you say. After all, Xianren Valley is full of Cultivators, so Brother Chen must be careful."

After saying that, Mo Shoutian took out the xuanyang token and handed it to Chen Wanshan.

"Brother Shoutian, I will be careful."

Chen Wanshan took the xuanyang token and went to the warehouse.

After Chen Wanshan left, Mo Shoutian calculated the dates.

Two days later would be the day when the Xuanyang Sect came over to select people.

Although children with good Aptitude had already been picked out in advance by Mo Xiaochuan, if the Mo Family acted completely unenthusiastic, it would instead make the Xuanyang Sect suspicious.

Mo Shoutian thought for a moment, got up, and went to the medicinal herb warehouse.

He wanted to pick out a few decent medicinal herbs to use as gifts for the Xuanyang Sect Cultivators who would come to select people in two days.

In this way, the people from the Xuanyang Sect would only think that the Mo Family paid great attention to this matter and would not harbor suspicions.
