348: Virtual particles and antiparticles

This kind of bizarre Feynman diagram was the first Guo Hao had ever seen.

He was very curious about what was behind it.

Two special antiparticles seemed to produce special quarks during a collision with a positive particle.

The special virtual particles were very obvious on the Feynman diagram, exceptionally dazzling. Virtual particles shouldn't be this dazzling. In fact, virtual particles are not something that actually exists in current human research.

Generally speaking, in quantum field theory, particles are excited states of the field. Virtual particles are likely particles that appear temporarily during interaction processes, such as particles acting as intermediate processes in Feynman diagrams.

These virtual particles do not satisfy the usual energy-momentum relationship, which is E² ≠ p²c² + m²c⁴, so they are called "virtual" because they cannot be directly observed.

While positive and antiparticles are pairs of particles with opposite charges, such as electrons and positrons, they follow conservation laws when they are created or annihilated.

Guo Hao began to calculate this Feynman diagram.

The quantum field above was very abnormal; those few virtual particles had actually become something that almost actually existed.

They could actually satisfy the energy-momentum relationship; they actually possessed energy, and judging from the situation on the Feynman diagram.

These virtual particles actually possessed momentum!

And it wasn't false; it was a very strong reaction.

The more Guo Hao calculated, the more surprised his eyes became. It was too strange!

In the field of Quantum Physics, such strange virtual particles were too bizarre, completely inconsistent with current human understanding of Quantum Physics.

It could be said to have broken existing understanding.

It gave humanity a deeper understanding of the field of High Energy Physics.

Analyzing the Feynman diagram and some recorded data, the more he analyzed, the more excited Guo Hao became.

He hadn't produced much knowledge in the field of Theoretical Physics before.

After all, Theoretical Physics was too ethereal, and many things simply couldn't be proven, such as string theory, or gravitational waves.

Many things that were only theoretically valid simply couldn't be proven.

To catch a glimpse of the field of High Energy Physics, one could only use high-energy particle colliders to see a corner of the field of High Energy Physics.

Guo Hao was actually not very interested in the current stage of Theoretical Physics.

It could be seen from his university major choice of Materials and Engineering that this guy was a complete pragmatist.

He knew his own capabilities very well and understood that for current humanity, while advanced theory was important because it represented the future.

Practicality was a more important matter.

Only after the practical foundation is stronger can the development of scientific research be like a tree with roots and water with a source.

The fundamental basis of everything is application, which is Materials.

Without sufficiently powerful Materials as support, science wanting to develop is essentially a castle in the air.

After all, even a high-energy particle collider, if supported by sufficiently powerful Materials, could build a larger-scale, more powerful particle collider.

Even if technology was strong enough, and humanity could easily land on the Moon, or even Mars, high-energy particle colliders could be built on the Moon.

That way, humanity's understanding of the field of High Energy Physics would definitely be more intuitive and clear than relying on empty thoughts on Earth, using some not-so-detailed data for deduction and calculation.

Technological progress can completely feed back into the progress of theoretical science.

Guo Hao was very clear about this, so he had always pursued technological progress, even Computational Materials Science, which indeed counts as theory.

However, in Guo Hao's eyes, Computational Materials Science itself was born to discover new Materials and was not considered theoretical research.

And now, a huge change has occurred.

When the Controlled nuclear fusion reactor core completely melted down, the resulting energy turbulence, carrying huge changes between particles, caused a peculiar phenomenon.

It revealed a very important discovery in the field of High Energy Physics, and Guo Hao would certainly not let go of this discovery.

A brand new system!

Within three days.

News about the complete meltdown of the core of the EAST fully superconducting Tokamak Controlled nuclear fusion, and the investment of billions turning into nothing, spread intentionally.

The entire Dragon Country public opinion was in an uproar.

Nearly a hundred media outlets, including authoritative official media, reported on this matter.

It can be said that the impact was enormous.

People on the internet were already arguing incessantly.

"What the hell are these people doing? Money laundering?? I remember EAST was built in '06, and it was a big deal back then! They said it cost billions.

It's the largest fully superconducting Tokamak Controlled nuclear fusion device in the country! Did it just melt down like that???"

"Indeed! It melted, it wasn't just damaged. Does melting mean it's impossible to repair? Can it only be rebuilt? Damn! Billions, I'm really impressed!"

"??? This is really outrageous! They should investigate! I remember this thing should be able to shut down forcibly and cool down! I don't believe it doesn't have this device!"

"Indeed, it's too strange. How could it get to the point of the core melting? If the core melted, what's left of the entire fully superconducting Tokamak? Doesn't the control center also have to be destroyed? That's hundreds of millions of degrees Celsius!"

"Uh, I don't quite understand... Can any experts explain? Is it normal for equipment to be destroyed during an experiment... Why is everyone so anxious..."

"Heh heh, you know about nuclear fission power plants, right? Generally speaking, nuclear fission has reaction devices, and even if there's a problem, they can usually shut down in time.

And a core meltdown of this magnitude is basically equivalent to Chernobyl!"

"Holy cow! Then we really should complain!"

.........

Many people were complaining online, and many even went to the official account of the Dragon Country Controlled nuclear fusion Research Center to complain.

Many people started reporting like crazy.

But no matter what, not many people truly understood the importance of this matter. Many people who heard this news just treated it as news.

There was much more important news than this.

Three days later, except for some voices still complaining online.

Other people were no longer paying much attention to this matter.

It can be said that everyone at the Luzhou EAST Controlled Nuclear Fusion Center, including Director Yu, was thoroughly criticized.

But there was nothing they could do; they could only endure it and couldn't provide any effective explanation.

After all, they all signed confidentiality agreements, and nothing about the experiments Guo Hao conducted, whether it was data or anything else, could be revealed in the slightest.

Guo Hao spent these three days basically researching the content in the Feynman diagram and writing it into a paper.
