12: Chapter 12 Raising Fire Ravens

Song Jiang's face flushed red as he scratched his head in agitation. He wanted to explain, but didn't know what to say, and eventually turned his pleading gaze toward his brother.

Supervisor Song took a deep breath and said to Song Jiang's team members, "Everyone, I will personally guarantee this matter."

"Since I have asked Li Yu to perform the cultivation, it proves that I believe in his ability. After all... the Starlight Wolf King was cultivated by Li Yu, and that is an indisputable fact."

Song Jiang nodded hurriedly, "Yes, yes! My Starlight Wolf King is the best proof; it was cultivated by Li Yu..."

The captain raised his hand, cutting off Song Jiang, and glared sharply at Supervisor Song, "But Supervisor Song, accidental success does not mean continuous success. This field relies on experience and knowledge."

"You are letting an Intern perform the cultivation. What if he fails? Who will be responsible for the loss of our beast? Are you treating our beasts as a joke?"

Two young team members fumed and shouted along,

"That's right! What if it fails?"

"If you're so capable, why don't you use your own beast for cultivation? Why use ours!"

Facing the questioning, Supervisor Song did not get angry. With a serious and solemn expression, he said, "Since I have provided a guarantee, I will be responsible until the end. If it fails, I will pay out of my own pocket to hire an Intermediate Cultivator, or even a Senior Cultivator, to help restore your beasts. You can rest assured about this."

"Hmph! I don't trust you!"

A young team member said this, walked straight toward Li Yu, and without even greeting him, rudely ripped off the testing wires, threw them on the ground, and took his beast away.

Another team member followed closely behind.

Only the Mud Armor Rhino, the Fire Crow, and Li Yu remained standing in front of the equipment.

Li Yu did not pause; instead, he beckoned the Mud Armor Rhino to continue checking its attributes, as if nothing had happened.

The laboratory was not large, and he had heard those conflicts and arguments very clearly.

Yet he knew that arguing, guaranteeing, or swearing wouldn't solve the problem. The only thing he could do was to perform the cultivation well.

With the most extreme quality of cultivation, he would strike back at all the doubt and disdain.

As for whether anyone would be willing to let him perform the cultivation, that was for Supervisor Song to fight for.

...

"Captain, the two of us won't be doing the cultivation. In my opinion, you should hurry up and take your beasts back, lest you get them killed. Anyway, I don't trust anyone with the surname Song anymore."

The team member who took back the toad said this to the captain and Yang Juan.

The captain did not speak, but just kept shifting his gaze between Li Yu and the Mud Armor Rhino, hesitant in his heart.

On one hand, handing a beast over to an Intern from a technical school for cultivation—anyone with half a brain knew that was courting death.

On the other hand, Li Yu had cultivated an s-rank new species, the Starlight Wolf King. This was a concrete achievement, and based on his understanding of Song Jiang, Song Jiang would never harm the team for personal gain.

Cultivate? Refuse?

He was somewhat hesitant.

At this moment, Yang Juan, who hadn't said much the whole time, spoke up.

"I choose to continue with the cultivation."

Everyone looked at her in surprise.

"Yang Juan?"

"Why?"

Several teammates asked.

Yang Juan revealed a self-deprecating smile.

"It's a disabled beast anyway; the success rate won't be high regardless of who cultivates it. If he really is confident, let's give it a try. In any case, the worst result is just the same as it is now—continuing to be a burden."

Song Jiang was moved by these words and said excitedly, "No! You are not a burden! Yang Juan, without you, we would have died long ago. Believe me, you are not a burden!"

"Thank you." Yang Juan smiled.

The captain stared at Song Jiang for a long time, and a decision formed in his heart.

"Since that's the case, I will also participate in the cultivation."

"Captain!"

The two teammates who had given up on cultivation shouted.

"Why?"

This was asked by Song Jiang.

The captain said, "I'll trust you this time, seeing as you said something sensible. Besides, what kind of captain hides in the back while their team members take risks?"

This remark left Yang Juan and Song Jiang incredibly grateful.

The other two teammates looked at each other and shook their heads speechlessly.

In their view, the captain had simply been bewitched by Song Jiang to make such an irrational decision.

It seemed that after today, the War Wolf team would fall apart.

Supervisor Song breathed a sigh of relief and said to the captain, "Rest assured, my word always holds. If there are any issues with the cultivation, I will be responsible until the end."

"With a storefront as large as Bright Moon Company, I assume you wouldn't dare to break your word," the captain said.

...

Before long, the attributes of the Mud Armor Rhino and the Fire Crow were detected.

Li Yu took a look, held the Fire Crow, led the Mud Armor Rhino, and returned to the group with a calm smile on his face.

"So... who goes first?" Li Yu asked.

"Are you confident? The Fire Crow is disabled," Yang Juan asked.

Li Yu nodded, "I am."

As soon as these words were spoken, the reactions of everyone present varied.

The two teammates who had given up on cultivation were secretly glad about their decision.

Supervisor Chen was expressionless, but the mockery in his eyes was visible to anyone.

Song Jiang was naturally excited. Since the successful cultivation of the Starlight Wolf, in his stubborn mind, if Li Yu said he could, then he could!

Supervisor Song, however, frowned with worry. After all, among the two beasts, anyone who wasn't blind knew that cultivating the Mud Armor Rhino was the safest bet.

If something went slightly wrong while cultivating the Fire Crow, it would be a failure.

In Li Yu's current situation, there was no room for trial and error. Once the cultivation of the Fire Crow failed, the others would certainly not entrust their beasts to him again.

And Supervisor Song himself would not be able to produce a presentable report to hand over to Special Assistant Yang.

Supervisor Song said somewhat hesitantly, "How about we start with the Mud Armor Rhino? Let's begin with the easier one."

"There's no need for that," Li Yu shook his head, "The Fire Crow is small, so it will be faster to cultivate."

"But..."

Supervisor Song wanted to persuade him further, but a grating voice rang out.

"Yes, yes, yes. Truly worthy of being the person so highly recommended by Supervisor Song. A tiny Fire Crow is nothing to you. Could it be that Supervisor Song lacks confidence?"

Supervisor Chen, who had been quiet for only a moment, popped up again.

Supervisor Song glared at him, and the words he had intended to use for persuasion had to be swallowed back unwillingly.

After all, if he continued to persuade, it would appear that he lacked confidence himself. If the only two remaining people backed out because of this, today's cultivation would be a total failure.

The only strategy now was to trust Li Yu.

He took a deep breath and patted Li Yu on the shoulder, "Do a good job, and don't carry any burden."

"Mm."

Li Yu nodded, but his gaze shifted toward Supervisor Chen, and he nodded appreciatively.

What a great assist!

He had originally thought he would have to waste some breath to get Supervisor Song to agree to let him cultivate the Fire Crow first. He hadn't expected this guy, who looked like a hybrid of a monkey and a rat, to seal off Supervisor Song's retreat with a single sentence.

He had two evolution cards in total: one all-purpose, and one strictly for fire attributes. He would definitely use the restricted one first.

Besides that, the Fire Crow had a disabled body and low morale, making it difficult to cultivate. But by the same token, once the cultivation was successful, the gratitude he would receive would be even greater.

It might even yield higher cultivation value than the Starlight Wolf King had given him.

As for the risks of cultivation...

If he couldn't even handle one disabled beast, how could he be called "God-level"?
