143: Chapter 143 The Mystery of the Blood Refining Ruins

Leaving the Cultivation Department, Li Yu walked down the main road with a dark expression, still clutching that inescapable blood jade in his hand.

Suddenly, a car drove against traffic and stopped beside Li Yu. The window rolled down, and Chen Qing looked at him: "Want a ride?"

Li Yu didn't speak and silently got into the car. His movements paused as he fastened his seatbelt, taking in the unfamiliar vehicle and the faint smell of smoke inside.

"Where did you get this car?"

"Picked it up on the side of the road."

"Again?!"

Li Yu's mouth twitched slightly.

It was like the real-life version of Grand Theft Auto; just press "F" to enter a vehicle. Every time she went out, some unlucky soul lost their car, and she totaled one every hundred kilometers? Honestly, Li Yu felt a bit of resistance in his heart.

"Where to?"

"Bright Moon Company. Hey, hey, hey? Why is this seat moving? Oh ho ho... it even has a massage function."

Li Yu's sense of morality gradually faded away amidst the massage from the back of the seat. Chen Qing glanced over, the corners of her mouth curling up slightly as she shifted gears and stepped on the gas, causing the car to surge forward.

Indeed, there was no guilt in stepping on the gas of a car picked up from the side of the road.

The car sped along the road, with trees and buildings outside the window flashing by like fleeting shadows.

"Did you get everything?" Li Yu asked.

"Yes," Chen Qing said, "but these things aren't enough to deal with Jin Yulong."

"Let's get him kicked out of Bright Moon Company first."

"That will be enough."

Chen Qing drove with one hand while reaching behind her with the other to hand the document bag resting on the seat back to Li Yu, who examined them one by one.

The contents of the documents were varied, including records of Jin Yulong misappropriating company assets and bribing government officials, as well as evidence of him forming cliques, engaging in factionalism, and ostracizing others.

Most striking among them were the analysis reports of many batches of inferior materials, including the poison spirit bamboo shoot.

In those material analysis reports, a type of earthy yellow crystal had been identified.

"What are those crystals?" Li Yu asked.

"I don't know," Chen Qing answered, "but they are very common in the organization and are a necessity for many studies."

Li Yu was lost in thought. Soon, the car stopped outside Bright Moon Company.

The two walked into the company.

Busy colleagues in the lobby greeted Li Yu enthusiastically when they saw him, and Li Yu responded with a smile... although he didn't recognize a single one of them.

Li Yu had researched the antidote for the blood toxin, and as his employer, Bright Moon Company held a huge advantage; the authorities prioritized them for material supply, assistance from Breeders, and more.

Having reaped the benefits, the people inside the company looked at Li Yu as if they were seeing the God of Wealth. They took the elevator straight to the top floor.

...

Yang Xue was busy at her desk when she heard a knock. She called out "Come in," but when she looked up and saw Li Yu, a flash of surprise crossed her eyes.

She was just about to ask if Li Yu had come to the wrong door, since this guy had only ever passed by the top floor in the past and never came to see her.

At this moment, her gaze shifted down to the file folder in Li Yu's hand, and she said meaningfully: "Truly a rare guest. It seems you didn't come to the wrong door this time."

"Of course, I'm here to deliver a gift." Li Yu shook the document bag.

Yang Xue was curious and gestured toward the two chairs in front of her. After the two sat down and the folder was pushed in front of her, she opened the bag and took out the contents to examine them.

The entire process was crisp and efficient, without a shred of wasted words.

As she flipped through the pages, a look of surprise appeared on Yang Xue's face. She looked at Li Yu, then shifted her gaze to Chen Qing.

"You found these?" Yang Xue asked.

Chen Qing nodded slightly.

"Not bad skills," Yang Xue smiled. "Do you want to work for me?"

Chen Qing shook her head.

"What a pity."

Although Yang Xue said it was a pity, not a hint of regret could be seen on her face.

Three minutes later.

She put down the documents and looked at Li Yu: "These things are useful. What do you want?"

She didn't say what they were useful for or how useful they were, but Li Yu knew that this answer was enough to explain everything.

"Nothing for now. Let's keep it as a debt," Li Yu said.

He wasn't lacking anything at the moment. If he were to say he lacked something, it would be a channel to contact foreign medical companies for his mother, but Bright Moon Company had already been working on that since he became a Senior Cultivator.

It was just that the current situation abroad was unstable, so there had been no progress.

Yang Xue said: "Then we'll keep it as a debt. Provided it doesn't violate the law or company regulations, I can help you once."

"Good." Li Yu nodded.

The three had nothing left to say, and the atmosphere fell into silence again.

Li Yu fiddled with the blood jade in his pocket and asked: "Is the President in?"

"Probably. Go knock and see. It's not like it's the first time anyway." There was a hint of teasing in Yang Xue's words.

Just as Li Yu was about to get up, the office door opened with a "bang," and the sound of light, barefoot footsteps rang out.

"Li Yu!"

He turned around and saw Ming Yueguang with eyes shining, rushing toward him with an excited expression.

Chen Qing frowned and instinctively tried to stop her, but just as she blocked Li Yu, Ming Yueguang's figure disappeared, without even a trace of an afterimage.

So fast!

Chen Qing was suddenly startled. Looking back, Ming Yueguang was already holding Li Yu's arm, her face flushed with excitement.

"Such fast speed! I didn't even have a chance to dodge or stop her." Chen Qing was terrified, but at the same time, she let down her guard and silently stepped aside.

With President Ming's strength, if she wanted to kill Li Yu, the result would be the same whether she was there or not.

"President Ming, are you looking for me?" Li Yu asked.

Ming Yueguang nodded heavily, her dark hair somewhat disheveled from running. She asked excitedly: "I heard you snatched the captain qualification for the Blood Refining Ruins. Is it true?"

"Captain qualification!" Yang Xue's pupils constricted, and she looked at Li Yu in surprise. "You possess the captain qualification? How did you manage that?"

Mentioning the Blood Refining Ruins caused Li Yu's expression to darken. The joy of solving one worry vanished in an instant.

He said: "It can't be called snatching. This damn thing is like a piece of dog-skin plaster; it insisted on crashing into my hands, and I can't shake it off."

As he spoke, he slapped the blood jade onto the table with a "smack."

He wasn't worried about anyone snatching it; on the contrary, if anyone wanted to snatch it, he would absolutely be the first to cooperate, even paying them to take it!

Ming Yueguang picked up the blood jade and observed it carefully, even sniffing it with her nose, not knowing what she was trying to distinguish.

"No traces of battle, no spiritual wisdom; it's an inanimate object."

Upon hearing this, Yang Xue asked: "Then... your captain qualification wasn't snatched by yourself?"

"Of course not," Li Yu spread his hands. "I'm just a Breeder; I don't even know how to command beast combat. Why would I snatch this damn captain qualification? Isn't that just courting death?"

As soon as these words were spoken, Yang Xue and Ming Yueguang were slightly taken aback. They exchanged glances, their eyes becoming a bit more cautious.

Chen Qing asked: "Is there something wrong?"

Yang Xue looked at Ming Yueguang. Seeing that the latter was lost in thought but didn't intend to refuse to answer, she explained:

"Since ancient times, the captain qualification has always been the result of regional competition—survival of the fittest. Only the person with the strongest combat power can gain the recognition of the ruins."

"I have never heard of a Breeder being chosen as a captain. The ruins trial is extremely dangerous; even top-tier powerhouses might fall if they are the slightest bit careless."

"What is the difference between letting a Breeder participate and sending them to their death? This does not conform to the laws of the ruins at all."

Li Yu listened, tears streaming down his face, wishing he could hold Yang Xue's hand and shout a few times, "Kind sister! Everything you said is what I'm thinking!"

Chen Qing asked again: "Could it be related to this blood toxin? Maybe the blood toxin is a test."

"Impossible." Yang Xue said firmly: "Every ruin is filled with slaughter; there is no such thing as a ruin trial without slaughter. This also determines that the ruins cannot choose a Breeder with near-zero combat power as a captain. It goes back to what I just said... 'It does not conform to the laws of the ruins'."

After she finished speaking, both Chen Qing and Li Yu frowned. The atmosphere suddenly felt oppressive.

Suddenly, Ming Yueguang thought of something and said: "No! There is one more possibility!"

The three looked at Ming Yueguang.
