61: Chapter 61 Former Master, Today's Enemy
The Spirit Probing Armor didn't look in mirrors; otherwise, it would have seen that its black eyes were much more expressive than before, sparkling like two glowing gemstones.
It also hadn't noticed that after evolving, it was much better at thinking than before.
It stood at the door for a long while, mentally preparing itself before standing up on its hind legs and mimicking a human knocking.
Its claws weren't large but were very sharp; as they struck the door, they sounded like a knife scraping a wooden board, making a rustling sound and scattering some wood shavings.
The voices inside the room stopped.
"Who is it?" an impatient voice rang out.
The Spirit Probing Armor trembled slightly, unable to contain its excitement. Its long claws curled up, clenching like fists.
Although it knew it had been abandoned.
But what if it was all a misunderstanding?
While the Spirit Probing Armor was hesitating, the door opened.
A boy wearing casual clothes, with a flat nose and a face full of acne, looked around, one hand scratching his backside.
"No one? Who is it?! Knocking on someone's door in the middle of the night, is this fun?!"
Having said that, he was about to turn back inside when the Spirit Probing Armor let out two whimpers.
Only then did he look down and see an unfamiliar pangolin. He frowned and said, "Where did this tamed beast come from? No, wait, there's no contract mark. This is a damn masterless monster! Dammit! Iron-Armored Rat, come here quickly!"
Terrified, he hurriedly retreated a few steps into the room while calling for his own beast.
The difference between a tamed beast and a monster lay in a hidden contract mark on the forehead. With a mark, it was a tamed beast with a master, someone to look after it, and it was controllable.
Without a mark, it was an uncontrollable monster. Since monsters were highly destructive, if an uncontracted monster was seen in the city, it was usually captured for the market or killed on the spot if capture was impossible.
Even abandoned tamed beasts were treated the same way.
The boy's retreat made the Spirit Probing Armor freeze in place. It had planned what to say, but seeing the other's terrified gaze still caused it a wave of distress.
"Wu, wuuu..."
The Spirit Probing Armor slowly approached, calling out to the boy while pointing at a photo on the wall that hadn't been taken down yet. It was a photo of the boy as a child, holding a Yellow Mountain Beetle. The child in the photo smiled innocently, and the Yellow Mountain Beetle's mouth also held a slight curve.
"Are you Huang Jia?" the boy asked suspiciously.
The Spirit Probing Armor couldn't understand the words, but having spent its childhood with him, it understood his meaning and knew he was calling its name. It nodded hurriedly.
"Damn, holy crap! You actually evolved? You really lucked out."
The boy sized up the Spirit Probing Armor with a look of wonder, but he had no intention of getting close. When the Spirit Probing Armor took a step toward him, he barked, "Stop! Stay right there!"
As he spoke, his tamed beast rushed out, blocking the Spirit Probing Armor's path while baring its teeth.
It was an Iron-Armored Rat, a size larger than the Spirit Probing Armor, at Bronze Level 2.
The Spirit Probing Armor was startled into stopping, whimpering at the boy.
"Iron-Armored Rat, what is it saying?" the boy asked, then thought for a moment and said, "Forget it, it doesn't matter what it says. Drive it out. Dammit! If you could evolve, why didn't you do it sooner? You made me lose face in front of my classmates."
The Iron-Armored Rat was about to convey the Spirit Probing Armor's words, but upon hearing its master's command, a fierce glint immediately appeared in its eyes, and a layer of dark light quickly covered its four claws.
The Iron-Armored Rat was a Metal-type tamed beast, its entire body as hard as steel. Though small, its strength, speed, and destructiveness were not weak. Moreover, this type of beast was ill-tempered and loved to kill, making it a high-quality beast in the eyes of many combat-oriented Beast Tamers.
The Spirit Probing Armor whimpered, only to find its former master's gaze had become incredibly cold; he had even ordered his new beast to attack it.
Having been together for so long, it understood its former master's intentions all too well.
Before it could understand why, the Iron-Armored Rat lunged forward, its four sharp claws carrying a sharp dark light as they ruthlessly tore into the Spirit Probing Armor.
Crack...
In an instant, many of the scales on the Spirit Probing Armor's body shattered.
Although it had evolved and its quality was slightly higher than the Iron-Armored Rat's, the level difference was clear. Its scales couldn't withstand the attack at all.
Having landed a hit, the Iron-Armored Rat immediately pressed its advantage, jumping onto the Spirit Probing Armor's back. Its sharp teeth bit down, tearing two bloody holes in its back. As its scales broke, the Spirit Probing Armor's cries became pitiful.
It looked at its former master, but there was only excitement in his eyes.
That's right.
He had always wanted a beast with strong combat power and had always been a combative human. Since it couldn't even beat this large rat, how could he possibly treat it well?
I'm so stupid...
What exactly was I expecting?
While the Spirit Probing Armor was in a daze, the Iron-Armored Rat's attacks didn't stop. In a short time, amber scales were scattered all over the floor, and blood stained the ground.
Instead of stopping the Iron-Armored Rat, the smell of blood seemed to trigger its ferocity. Its small, slightly reddened eyes glared as it bit and tore even more forcefully.
The boy watched the scene, smelling the blood in the air, and the smile on his face grew even brighter.
"Yes! Just like that! Haha~ Good job, Iron-Armored Rat. Tear it to pieces for me. I'll take you to fight other classmates' beasts another day and show them how powerful we are!"
At this point, he thought of something, took out his phone, and dialed a number. After a moment, the call connected.
"Hello, is this the Security Bureau? A monster has run to my doorstep. Yes, a monster, not a tamed beast. It has no contract mark and looks quite fierce, but it's no match for my beast."
The man spoke while watching the battle outside the door. The screams and hisses rang out, adding credibility to the monster attack for the person on the other end of the line.
"Don't worry, I'll stay safe. Leave it to me. As a Beast Tamer, being a Guardian of the home and fighting off intruding monsters is the duty of our kind. You flatter me. Okay, okay, bye."
Hanging up the phone, a cruel excitement appeared on the man's face. He said, "Iron-Armored Rat, bite it hard! This is your first battle; you're not allowed to lose! If you dare lose, I'll stew you!"
Having received the order, the Iron-Armored Rat tore at the Spirit Probing Armor even more violently. With its four claws ripping and its teeth gnawing, flesh and blood flew, and broken scales splattered everywhere.
The Spirit Probing Armor looked at its former master in disbelief. The intense physical pain was no match for the heartache. A strong sense of grief and indignation welled up in its heart, turning into rage.
It could no longer care about their past bond and lunged toward its former master.
But it was not a combat-oriented monster after all, and its level was lower. Having lost a lot of blood, it only took two steps before the Iron-Armored Rat caught up, flipping it onto the ground with a claw, belly-up.
The man was startled by the Spirit Probing Armor's move and shrank back. Seeing the Spirit Probing Armor subdued, he immediately felt relieved and, with a face full of anger, grabbed a shoulder pole by the door.
"You damn beast! I'm your master, and you actually tried to attack me! Die!"
Under the hallway light, the shoulder pole looked like a pitch-black whip as it fell ruthlessly onto the Spirit Probing Armor.
A shrill cry echoed through the hallway.
