20: Chapter 20: Benefits for Li Yu

"Huff... huff... huff..."

Supervisor Song's breathing sounded like thunder; every breath made his lungs feel like they were burning, his vision blurred, and his head throbbed.

In a daze, he felt as if he were floating, slowly and unsteadily climbing the last few steps.

Fifty floors!

He had climbed a full 50 floors!

He had fought his way through obstacles all the way up, barely managing to break through layer upon layer of blockades.

Finally.

The security door on the 50th floor was right before him.

He gripped the handle, took a deep breath, and leaned his weight against it to push it open.

"Creak—"

Outside the door, a dozen or so young men were looking at him with cheeky grins.

Thump!

Supervisor Song plopped onto the floor, staring at the crowd in utter bewilderment.

"You guys!" he shouted, then pouted, "Please, let me go! I just want to go and report."

"Supervisor Song, sorry about this, but our boss gave a strict order. If we don't stop you, we won't get our performance bonus for this month," a male student said helplessly.

"That's right, our supervisor also said that stopping you counts as two performance points," a girl said, holding up two fingers in a 'V' sign.

"Two performance points? Your supervisor is so stingy."

"We only got one performance point."

"Even stingier..."

These young people ignored Supervisor Song and started chattering away. Crucially, they didn't even try to hide their conversation, so Supervisor Song heard everything.

He finally realized what was going on.

So, besides him, all the other departments had teamed up just to snatch Li Yu.

"I give up, I just give up... Is it easy for me? I've been waiting on this employee hand and foot, and I still have to defend against you bastards trying to poach him." Supervisor Song felt like crying without tears, leaning against the door with a vacant look in his eyes.

Suddenly.

A cool, detached voice rang out.

"What are you doing here?"

Supervisor Song usually felt immense pressure when he heard this voice, but now, it sounded like a trumpet of hope.

The others shivered and turned to look. Most of them didn't recognize the newcomer, but that didn't stop them from reading, and when they saw the ID badge hanging on the person's chest...

"Spe... Special Assistant Yang..."

Someone spoke up.

Everyone snapped to attention in a 'whoosh,' calling out cautiously, "Hello, Special Assistant Yang."

"You didn't answer my question," Special Assistant Yang said, expressionless.

He had just left his office to get a glass of water when he heard the chattering coming from the direction of the security stairwell, something that had never happened before.

The 50th floor wasn't a place just anyone dared to come to.

Everyone looked at each other. Someone glanced behind them, their eyes lighting up, and said, "Ah! We were just helping Supervisor Song get up here. He ran up the stairs and was exhausted."

"Ran up the stairs?"

The crowd made way. Special Assistant Yang looked toward the door and, sure enough, there sat a large, heavy-set man leaning against the door, looking like he'd been fished out of a pool of water. He looked absolutely miserable.

Special Assistant Yang's eyes flickered slightly. She swept her gaze over the crowd, causing them to stand there in terror, not daring to move.

"Supervisor Song, come with me," Special Assistant Yang said, then turned and returned to the office.

Supervisor Song scrambled up, and with the help of the others, walked into the office. Then, Supervisor Song waved his hand, and those people scurried away, closing the door behind them.

Special Assistant Yang asked, "What exactly is going on?"

"Sigh~ I've made a fool of myself in front of you. These little brats were ordered by the supervisors of those other departments to block my path and keep me from reporting," Supervisor Song gulped down a glass of water and said, "I suspect they are already trying to poach him."

Poach him?

Special Assistant Yang raised an eyebrow. She quickly thought of the young man Supervisor Song had mentioned, and then, recalling the bizarre things each department had done in the past to poach talent, she understood about seventy or eighty percent of the situation.

"Since that's the case, give your report first," Special Assistant Yang said.

"Okay."

Supervisor Song stood up, his legs still shaking, but his expression was highly excited. He gave a detailed account of the breeding from this morning to Special Assistant Yang.

Special Assistant Yang, who had been leaning back in her chair looking relaxed, couldn't help but sit up straight. She performed a few operations on her computer and quickly saw the new breeding record.

"Another s-rank new species!"

Special Assistant Yang's eyes narrowed, flashing with intensity. Her shock was beyond measure.

An s-rank new species, two consecutive breeding successes!

This was definitely not a coincidence.

Either someone had plotted to send this person here with ulterior motives, or... this person was truly an exceptional talent.

Special Assistant Yang quickly dismissed the first guess. There was no other reason; if someone really wanted to plant an agent inside the company, there was no need to go to such lengths. A new species below s-rank would have been enough.

S-rank wasn't something that could be easily achieved.

Dismissing the first answer, only the second remained.

Talent.

And an exceptional talent at that.

Seeing that Special Assistant Yang remained silent for a long time, Supervisor Song said cautiously, "Special Assistant Yang, about that... he's under me, you absolutely cannot give him to other departments."

Special Assistant Yang glanced at him, scaring him into shutting his mouth immediately.

"What's his name?"

"Li Yu."

"Li Yu..." Special Assistant Yang murmured, committing the name to memory. "Make him a permanent employee. We'll waive the internship period."

"I'm afraid that won't be possible. There's no partnership between the technical school and the breeding certification board, so even though Li Yu is out for his internship, he hasn't taken the grading exam yet. He is just a Breeder apprentice," Supervisor Song explained.

Breeders are divided into several ranks: Apprentice/Trainee, Junior, Intermediate, Senior, Master, etc.

Apprentices cannot breed independently; they must have a Breeder watching over them to operate. They also cannot become permanent employees until they pass the grading exam.

Although the relevant departments aren't strict about this point, and many companies don't emphasize it, Bright Moon Company is very strict about it.

Special Assistant Yang didn't insist upon hearing this, instead asking, "What is his family situation like?"

"His father died early. His mother is being treated at the City First Hospital for Spirit Depletion Syndrome. The family isn't wealthy, and the 50,000 yuan he earned from breeding yesterday is his mother's life-saving money. Also, he has a younger sister who is about to take the college entrance exam."

Supervisor Song said, secretly relieved that he had asked a few extra questions; otherwise, he really wouldn't have been able to answer just now.

"Let's do this. There are three things you need to take care of," Special Assistant Yang said.

"Please, go ahead."

"First, reward him with 100,000 yuan, to be transferred immediately, to relieve his worries about his mother's medical expenses."

"Second, Spirit Depletion Syndrome is not incurable; the difficulty lies in the channels. Tell him to work with peace of mind. When he has saved enough money, the company will step in and help him hire foreign doctors for treatment."

"Third, have him complete his grading exam as soon as possible. The company's benefits, including medical care for family members, require permanent status to be accessed. As for the rest... when the president returns, I'll see if there are any additions."

After she finished speaking.

Supervisor Song was already stunned.

Good heavens!

These benefits were exceptionally good!

Giving money and providing channels—and this is still while he's an Intern. Once he officially becomes a permanent employee, wouldn't his compensation skyrocket?

Of course, Supervisor Song didn't think there was anything wrong with that.

To say nothing else, the breeding of two s-rank new species was enough for Bright Moon Company to flex its muscles in this year-end annual report.

By then, who knows how many business partnerships and resources would come their way.

What the company would gain would definitely be far more than what the Breeder would receive.
