210: Counting the harvest and planning the evolution of the night
It was noon when Lin Shu finally got out of bed.
He had, quite unusually, rested for a longer period.
The surroundings were incredibly quiet, with only the constant howling of the yellow sand wind.
Clearly, everyone had already gone to the Land of Inheritance for their second challenge.
Lin Shu, however, had no such intention; after all, trying again wouldn't lead to any improvement, so there was no need to waste the time and energy.
He might as well practice his skills in his room, accumulating more proficiency, which would be more beneficial to him.
At this moment, Black Night Saturn Purple Eyes and Silver Spirit were continuously unleashing their skills outside, and since no one else was around, they wouldn't disturb anyone.
So, they could fully stretch their limbs.
Lin Shu then took out several items from his spatial ring; these were the rewards he had obtained from the Land of Inheritance.
There weren't eight items, but only four.
Through the eight acts, he could choose items a total of eight times; five of those times, Lin Shu chose Spirit Coins, the reason being that the other two options weren't very helpful to him.
It was better to choose Spirit Coins, which could also be exchanged for academic credits, a very popular item.
As soon as they were released, someone would buy them.
The ratio was roughly 2:1, and a larger quantity could even yield more.
Five selections yielded a total of three thousand Spirit Coins, meaning he could exchange them for at least 1500 academic credits, which was no small sum.
Among the other three items, naturally, a spatial stone was included.
The remaining two chosen items were two secret arts.
Only these two rewards were somewhat interesting; the other things weren't very helpful to Lin Shu.
One of them was a Mental attack method focused on killing—Soul Shattering Blazing Thought Slash.
This was the reward chosen in the seventh act, with extremely complex content and power far exceeding ordinary attack secret arts.
It was likely among the top tier of offensive methods.
Although the Spirit Source Heart Canon also had such offensive means, it was merely an accessory, and its effectiveness couldn't quite keep up, which was normal.
The formidable attack power of Soul Shattering Blazing Thought Slash could perfectly replace it.
He would have an additional layer of means to deal with enemies in the future.
The second secret art was more interesting; its function was no longer focused on Mental or Beastmaster, but on the Beastmaster himself.
This was the Six Source Body Refining Art, a secret art for tempering the body and enhancing physique; though called a secret art, it wasn't closely related to it, but merely broadly categorized as such.
It was chosen in the sixth act, meaning the effects of the other two items were even worse, otherwise, he wouldn't have chosen it; it was purely a treasure hunt in a trash can.
According to information unearthed in the Otherworld, there was such an unconventional and niche path that went against the norm.
That was to treat the Beastmaster as the strongest beast.
Their bodies, empowered by the beasts' feedback, perfectly combined with the bodies tempered by this body refining art.
This gave rise to a group of monsters who could tear beasts apart with their bare hands, fight them with their fists, and engage in close-quarters combat.
These people were called Beastmaster Warriors, but this path was incredibly difficult, with very few reaching the peak, and due to its high difficulty and the even greater resources required compared to nurturing beasts, it disappeared into the river of history.
Lin Shu chose the Six Source Body Refining Art not to become a Beastmaster Warrior, but merely to test its effects and see if it could compensate for some of his shortcomings.
He had seen too many Beastmasters who were utterly helpless when Black Night got close, and although they had the Damage Transfer secret art, they wouldn't suffer damage.
But his own beasts were inevitably somewhat constrained, or even a drag on the overall situation.
After cultivating the Six Source Body Refining Art to a high level, combined with the physical qualities provided by Hei Ye and the others, although he couldn't defeat enemies, he would at least have some ability to fight back, allowing him to stall until his beasts arrived.
It could also make him stronger; even if the effect wasn't as expected, it wouldn't be a big deal, as this was just an attempt, and besides, his clones practiced it daily.
Just like Gu Li, he possessed such formidable power because he had learned such a secret art.
After tallying his rewards, Lin Shu began to plan his next goals.
His Mental strength had now reached the fourth-tier level, and he could contract another beast.
Speaking of this, Lin Shu felt a bit troubled; at this rate, he would have five beasts.
The thought of five open mouths made his head ache a bit; his current proficiency couldn't quite support it.
But then he remembered how Tuyao Zimu was easily severely injured by the Jin family in the eighth act, and he was powerless to help.
His next selection criteria would now focus on healing types; otherwise, if he encountered such a situation again with a stronger opponent, he would be completely helpless.
Alternatively, a water-attribute beast, one that could be ridden underwater; these two aspects were what he urgently needed to supplement.
Of course, it would be most perfect if the next beast had both functions.
Unfortunately, he hadn't heard of such a thing yet, but the matter of contracting wasn't urgent.
He could wait until he encountered a suitable beast before contracting it.
Then came the next main direction of focus.
Black Night was now not far from the eighth tier, and not far from the conditions for evolving to epic quality; his skills were basically up to standard, and the comprehension of Profound Truth could also be achieved with some proficiency.
It could be said that apart from the eight thousand proficiency points to purchase the evolution method and evolution materials, Black Night's evolution could basically be completed as soon as he reached the required level.
Lin Shu was also very much looking forward to the second Talent Black Night would gain in his next evolution, wondering if it would be as powerful as Void Walk.
Therefore, the focus moving forward would be to fully complete Black Night's evolution.
He also needed to find a new place to grind proficiency, preferably an Otherworld with beast tides, as that would be the fastest, but such places were hard to find, so he could only rely on luck.
Outside, Black Night, who was diligently practicing his skills, suddenly stopped his movements.
For some reason, he felt as if something good was about to happen to him, which was quite strange.
Without thinking further, Lin Shu began to plan on learning the two newly acquired secret arts.
Due to their high difficulty, it would take a considerable amount of time to reflect them on the panel... Time quickly passed to evening.
After being subjected to the onslaught of numerous students, the blue water curtain finally got a rest, slowly receding into space and disappearing.
This also signified that the Land of Inheritance had ceased to be open, and everyone's journey here had come to an end.
After nearly a day, Lin Shu barely managed to get Soul Shattering Blazing Thought Slash to an introductory level, displaying it on his panel.
The Six Source Body Refining Art, however, was still quite distant; its difficulty lay not only in learning the tempering method.
It also required time to accumulate, a slow and painstaking process, and needed to be combined with various energies to cleanse the body; no wonder it was overlooked, as ordinary Beastmasters couldn't afford it, and wealthy individuals didn't value such a small improvement.
Lin Shu walked out of the room he had inhabited for about a week, lining up neatly with everyone else.
Gu Li and Wu He Tai agreed that it wasn't too late and decided to fly back to Central State University that very night, as they were all leaving anyway.
Before leaving, Yu Liyan from Tianshu University came over and added Lin Shu's contact information.
He also expressed the idea of sparring next time.
Clearly, the other party was somewhat obsessed with such activities, to which Lin Shu shrugged, indicating that it was no problem.
The other party had also successfully cleared the eighth act in his second attempt, demonstrating his due strength.
Such a cultured rich young master who pursued Beastmaster strength was easy to gain a good impression of.
After a brief exchange, he left.
Immediately, the group from Central State University all boarded the giant-winged black sparrow and began their journey back.
The massive black figure instantly merged into the sea of clouds.
It began its return to Central State University at an extremely fast speed...
