29: Chapter 29, Section 29: You don't want to stay here forever, do you?
The carriage slowly traveled through the streets of Spirit City, its wheels rolling over smooth white jade slabs, emitting a light and rhythmic sound. Wang Donger lowered the curtain, but her gaze remained fixed on the ever-changing scenery outside the window, the shock in her heart lingering for a long time.
Is this Spirit City from ten thousand years ago?
On both sides of the street were rows of buildings, all constructed from white stone, with upturned eaves and carved beams, exuding a magnificent and imposing atmosphere everywhere. In the open spaces between the buildings stood statues of various shapes; some were Spirit Masters holding long swords, others were awe-inspiring Spirit Beasts, each one so lifelike that it seemed as if they would come to life the next second.
What amazed Wang Donger the most were the pedestrians passing by on the street.
There was no rush of ordinary people, no hawking of common peddlers; looking around, every person passing by exuded a Soul Power fluctuation, whether strong or weak.
Occasionally, children would run by laughing, their small figures containing Soul Power that could not be underestimated—clearly, here, even children had long since completed their Spirit awakening and embarked on the path of a Spirit Master.
"They are all Spirit Masters..." Wang Donger murmured to herself, her beautiful eyes filled with disbelief.
She came from the Clear Sky Sect, and as the young Sect Master of the Clear Sky Sect ten thousand years later, she had seen countless Spirit Masters, but she had never seen any city that could achieve such a density of Spirit Masters like Spirit City. Here, being a Spirit Master was not a privilege for the few, but the norm; it was as if the city itself was born for Spirit Masters.
Perhaps only Shrek City, which stood at the pinnacle of the Spirit Master's world, could be mentioned in the same breath as the Spirit City before her.
No wonder the classics said that Spirit City was the holy land in the hearts of all Spirit Masters ten thousand years ago. This pure atmosphere of Spirit Masters alone was enough to make any Spirit Master yearn for it.
The carriage turned a corner, and a huge square appeared in front. In the center of the square stood a towering stone tablet that reached into the clouds, covered with densely packed names, each name marked with the corresponding Soul Power level and Spirit. On the square, many Spirit Masters were stopping to watch the stone tablet, occasionally letting out bursts of admiration or discussion.
"What is that?" Looking at the stone tablet outside, Wang Donger asked very curiously.
"I don't know." Lu Jing, sitting opposite, spoke suddenly. Following Wang Donger's gaze, he realized what it seemed to record, narrowed his eyes slightly, and scanned the area with his Mental Energy.
"It seems to be a Monument of Honor!" Li Qing replied.
"Monument of Honor? What kind of thing is that?" Hearing this name, Wang Donger also became interested and immediately scanned it with her Mental Energy.
"If I'm not mistaken, it should be that as long as a Spirit Master's cultivation reaches level 70 or above, their name will be engraved on it for passing Spirit Masters to admire, regardless of where they come from or whether they are from Spirit Hall." Lu Jing explained, because he saw some familiar names on it, such as the three chief instructors of the Heaven Dou Imperial Academy.
Wang Donger nodded in realization, her understanding of Spirit Hall deepening a layer. To have such magnanimity, it was no wonder it could become the number one power on the continent ten thousand years ago.
However... such a glorious era eventually perished.
Thinking of this, Wang Donger could not help but sigh softly. In the history books ten thousand years later, there were very few records about Spirit Hall, mostly fragments about the confrontation with ancestor Tang San, and the tone was full of criticism. But seeing it with her own eyes now, she realized that behind that simplified history, there had once been such a brilliant civilization.
If it weren't for that accidental spatial turbulence, she would probably never have had the chance to witness all this with her own eyes.
"Since we're already here, don't think so much."
Lu Jing's voice sounded again, with a hint of gentle comfort, reminding her: "The most important thing for us now is to improve our strength. Only by being strong enough can we gain a foothold in this era, and have a chance to find a way back."
Wang Donger withdrew her gaze, turned her head, and looked at the child in front of her.
Lu Jing's face carried a calmness that did not match his age, and his eyes were clear and firm. During this time, the two of them had experienced spatial turbulence together and arrived in this strange era together, which could be considered sharing weal and woe.
She blinked, her long eyelashes trembling slightly, and nodded: "You are right."
Complaining and lamenting were meaningless; to return to her own era, she had to rely on herself.
Lu Jing looked at her serious appearance, and his heart breathed a sigh of relief, but to be safe and just in case, he felt he still had to make things clear in advance, saying: "Moreover, we are now on the same boat and must help each other. This era is far more complex than we imagined; Spirit Hall, the two great Empires, and those reclusive Sects, danger is hidden everywhere. If we have internal strife first and engage in backstabbing, I'm afraid we will have already fallen in this era before finding a way back."
He paused and looked at Wang Donger earnestly: "You wouldn't want to be trapped here forever, would you?"
Wang Donger's heart stirred.
She certainly didn't want to. Ten thousand years later, she had her family, her partners, and everything she was familiar with. No matter how prosperous this place was, it was not her home.
"I understand." Wang Donger did not hesitate at all, nodded seriously, and agreed: "Regardless of whether we had any grievances before, we will put them aside now. The most important thing is to join forces to deal with the current situation."
Although she and Lu Jing had no deep friendship before, and even before coming to this era, they were in a subtle relationship of grievances, after all, she was a freshman of Shrek Academy, and those hunting Lu Jing were precisely people from Shrek Academy.
However, at this moment, in this strange time ten thousand years ago, they were indeed each other's only reliance.
Lu Jing laughed, a look of relief appearing in his eyes: "Good. It's a deal."
The carriage continued forward, passing through the bustling streets, heading toward the core area of Spirit City. The scenery outside the window was still spectacular, the figures of Spirit Masters flashed by constantly, and the air was filled with a rich atmosphere of Soul Power.
Wang Donger leaned against the carriage window, looking at the sunlight belonging to ten thousand years ago outside, the confusion in her heart gradually replaced by determination.
No matter what she would encounter in the future, she must survive, become stronger, and then find the way back.
Whether it was the glory or the destruction of Spirit Hall, it had nothing to do with her. She was just a passerby who had accidentally entered this place; her goal was always that home ten thousand years later.
The carriage finally stopped in front of a magnificent palace, and the coachman's voice sounded outside, saying: "The two of you, we have arrived at our destination."
Wang Donger took a deep breath, looked at Lu Jing, and a trace of determination flashed in both their eyes.
A new life had begun.
