229: Chapter 229 Coaxing
But from an outsider's perspective, she was a bit naive.
Chen Cheng thought for a moment and then asked, "Are you really sure he is your father?"
This person was actually not Han Su's biological father; he was just a man who had gone on a blind date with her mother.
Her biological father had gone bankrupt while her mother was pregnant and owed a lot of money.
Not wanting to drag his wife and daughter down with him, he had no choice but to run away.
Han Su took a sip of her drink and nodded. "I turned our house upside down."
"There was only one photo of that man with my mother."
Chen Cheng raised an eyebrow. "So, you're convinced he's your father based on just one photo?"
Han Su paused, stunned. "It is a bit hasty, but at home, that's the only trace of this man I could find."
"It was tucked inside an old book."
Chen Cheng shook his head. "I think you should talk to your mother, or find a way to confirm your actual relationship with that man in the banquet hall just now."
"If he isn't your biological father at all, then haven't you been sad for him for nothing?"
Han Su suddenly felt her throat go dry. "Is that a possibility?"
"Are you stuck in your own fixed mindset?"
"Anything is possible."
"Why not just verify it?"
"How do I verify it?"
"Get a DNA test." Chen Cheng smiled.
Meeting his look, which was as if he were staring at an idiot, Han Su's mouth twitched, and she reached out and smacked him.
Chen Cheng's lips curved slightly as he took the wine glass from her hand. "Alright, let's go steal something else."
"What?"
"Come with me, and you'll know," Chen Cheng said with a smile, lifting his arm.
Han Su stood up, half-doubting, and reached out to link her arm with his.
Chen Cheng turned his head to look. Her tears had stopped, but her makeup was ruined.
Chen Cheng placed the bottle and glass on a side table.
He took Han Su to the front desk, asked a few questions, and borrowed a makeup bag for her to touch up her makeup.
After she finished touching up her makeup, Chen Cheng checked it. "There, smile. Let's go 'steal something'."
Pfft.
Han Su was amused by his deadpan nonsense.
The two went upstairs and returned to the banquet hall.
"Which one?"
Han Su was clearly not as nervous as before and pointed to a refined middle-aged man sitting at a round table.
Chen Cheng looked in the direction she pointed and paused.
He turned to look at Han Su. "Are you sure it's him?"
Han Su kept her eyes fixed on the man.
Chen Cheng was struggling to keep a straight face; he had seen this man just yesterday.
He had even spent over a million dollars on him.
Yes, for buying the business jet, this was the person recommended by the brokerage firm.
Chen Cheng smiled and led Han Su over.
"Lawyer Sun."
Sun Xu turned his head, looked at Chen Cheng in surprise, and quickly stood up, reaching out his hand. "Mr. Chen, I didn't expect to meet you here."
The man's Mandarin was much better than General Manager Guo's, possibly because he had spent time in the Mainland.
Han Su's mouth dropped open. She looked at Chen Cheng, then at Sun Xu in front of her, forgetting to be nervous.
She was completely shocked; how could he know Sun Xu?
Chen Cheng smiled and shook his hand. "I just saw Lawyer Sun and came over to say hello."
Sun Xu nodded. "I see." Recalling that Gao Peng was also from the Mainland, he asked, "Does Mr. Chen know General Manager Gao?"
Chen Cheng shook his head. "I don't really know General Manager Gao; I'm here accompanying a friend."
He turned to look at Han Su. "Han Su, my classmate, is also a lawyer. She happens to be working on the IPO project for General Manager Gao's company, so I just tagged along for fun."
Sun Xu realized instantly; being a worldly-wise man, he immediately understood what was going on. A big boss like Chen Cheng wouldn't have the time to accompany someone insignificant.
Since they were classmates, it was nothing more than a romantic affair.
He smiled and reached out to Han Su. "Lawyer Han, hello."
Han Su suddenly felt a bit uneasy. Chen Cheng patted the hand she had resting on his arm to comfort her.
Han Su took a deep breath, reached out her right hand, and shook Sun Xu's hand. "Lawyer Sun, hello. Actually, I'm also from Yingke Law Firm, working under Morena and Lawyer Hu."
Sun Xu was a bit surprised. "You're the newcomer that Morena was going to introduce to me earlier, right?"
Han Su had regained her composure and nodded with a smile. "Yes, that's me."
Sun Xu looked Han Su over and praised her, "You are quite good. Lawyer Hu rarely takes the initiative to introduce new people to me."
"You're too kind. It's just that Lawyer Hu is willing to cultivate us colleagues."
The three of them exchanged a few more pleasantries before Chen Cheng took Han Su to take their leave.
Passing by Sun Xu's chair, Chen Cheng quickly grabbed the back of it.
Middle-aged men lose their hair in clumps, and a chair used for a long time easily gets shed hair stuck to it.
He had been staring at that strand of hair for a long time.
The two walked straight out.
Han Su turned to look at Chen Cheng. "How did it go?"
Chen Cheng smiled and opened his hand, revealing a single strand of hair.
Han Su's eyes lit up immediately.
Chen Cheng's mouth twitched; this would only work to fool a liberal arts student.
Naturally shed hair cannot be used to extract effective genetic information.
To perform an identification test using hair, you need the root follicle, which means it has to be plucked directly from the head.
Coming over to steal the hair was just a way for Chen Cheng to divert Han Su's attention.
Chen Cheng smiled and whispered, "Give me a strand of your hair, and I'll take care of this for you."
Han Su thought about how busy she would be for the next little while and nodded. "Okay~"
"Thank you."
Chen Cheng's lips curved slightly; if he let her do it herself, she would have messed it all up.
While they were talking, General Manager Guo brought a few people over to socialize.
Chen Cheng naturally introduced the two to each other.
The two left the hotel and got into the car, where Chen Cheng tossed the pile of business cards he had collected into the center console.
Watching Chen Cheng's actions, Han Su raised an eyebrow and asked, "You didn't like any of them?"
Chen Cheng smiled. "Not exactly, it's just that these connections are of no use to me. As for making friends, they are a bit too old, so we might not have much in common to talk about."
"So I have to wrong them a little and let them be buried in the center console."
Han Su smiled and shook her head.
After the superficial socializing earlier.
Ever since General Manager Guo brought people over, there was an endless stream of people coming up to exchange business cards and pleasantries.
Han Su already had some understanding of Chen Cheng's status.
Chen Cheng smiled, looking at Han Su, whose eyes were a bit unfocused. "Let's go, I'll take you home."
Tonight, Chen Cheng held the same glass of orange juice until the end, having only taken a small sip of the red liquid at the very beginning with Gao Peng.
Han Su wasn't him; when others came over to exchange business cards and socialize, she couldn't avoid clinking glasses and exchanging pleasantries with them.
By the time they left the banquet hall, Han Su's eyes were already unfocused.
Han Su blushed and nodded. "Okay."
Seeing that she didn't move, Chen Cheng smiled and leaned over to fasten her seatbelt.
Looking at Chen Cheng slowly approaching, Han Su instantly sobered up, her cheeks becoming even redder.
