534: Chapter 534 Shattered

As they sat in the car, Sun Xin glanced at Zou Yu in the passenger seat and leaned closer to the person beside her.

She spoke in a low voice, "Isn't your secretary a bit too beautiful?"

Her words were tinged with jealousy.

The corners of Chen Cheng's mouth curled up, feeling a bit smug.

He reached out and took her hand, whispering comfort into her ear, "It's not as exaggerated as you say. In her family, she's actually the ugliest one."

Sun Xin's eyes widened. "She's the ugliest?"

"Is her family a nest of beauties?"

"A nest of beauties?" Chen Cheng's mouth twitched. "Hmm, something like that."

Chen Cheng began to talk nonsense. "Her mother used to be a famous beauty known for miles around. She also has two younger sisters; one looks exactly like her and is even younger."

"Exactly like her?"

Chen Cheng nodded.

"Not twins?"

"No."

Chen Cheng blinked, thinking that she just hadn't met Sun Xiang yet.

Otherwise, your buddy would definitely tell you that you have another sister in Magic City.

Sun Xin glanced at Zou Yu's profile again and shook her head. "I don't believe it."

Heh! You don't believe it, huh?

Chen Cheng directly took out his phone and pulled up Zou Yu's Moments.

Inside were photos of her with Zou Yue, as well as photos of her with Xing Lu.

Sun Xin was stunned and muttered, "They look way too similar."

“...”

With all the banter, Sun Xin suddenly forgot to be jealous.

Before long, the car arrived downstairs at Sun Xin's company.

However, Sun Xin didn't get out for a long time, staring blankly at the entrance of the building.

Chen Cheng frowned and asked softly, "What's wrong?"

"Aren't you going to be late?"

"Why aren't you in a hurry anymore?"

"Do you want to stay with me a bit longer?"

Sun Xin swallowed nervously and shook her head. "No."

"Then what is it?"

Sun Xin pointed toward the building. "Chu Xiaoyu is here."

Chen Cheng looked in the direction she pointed and indeed saw a figure that looked very much like Xu the Firecracker, looking around as if searching for something.

He thought for a moment. "Do you want me to walk you over?"

Sun Xin pondered for two seconds and shook her head. "Forget it, I haven't figured out how to tell my family yet."

"It's better if he doesn't see you for now."

Chen Cheng had a smile on his lips as he gazed into her eyes. "Are you sure?"

Sun Xin nodded. "Yes! I'm sure."

After speaking, she took a deep breath, pushed open the car door, and got out.

Chen Cheng watched her figure walk away and smiled. "That's good, saves me the trouble."

Zou Yu immediately frowned, turned her head, and cursed, "Pah, you scumbag."

Chen Cheng didn't mind and tilted his chin up proudly. "What?"

"Don't you like it?"

"You..." Zou Yu's cheeks instantly turned crimson from his direct gaze.

That big Baby—once you've used it, it's hard to say you don't like it.

Chen Cheng said to Eleven, who had been silent and keeping her eyes fixed on Sun Xin's back, "Let's go, stop watching the show."

"She's a rational person; she'll make the choice that's best for her. She's capable of handling a small matter like this."

"Oh~" Eleven gave an 'oh' and stepped on the gas, leaving the spot.

When Sun Xin was thirty meters away from the building, Chu Xiaoyu saw the radiant Sun Xin walking over from the roadside.

Following the direction she came from, he also caught sight of the black bentley that had just driven away.

Chu Xiaoyu suddenly felt a surge of burning rage.

In a few steps, he blocked Sun Xin's path and questioned her while suppressing his anger, "Who is he?"

Seeing his bloodshot eyes, Sun Xin instinctively took half a step back and frowned. "Who are you asking about?"

"I saw everything, why are you pretending?"

"Sigh~" Sun Xin let out a breath.

It seemed her clumsy excuses from last night could fool Sun Xiang, but they couldn't fool Chu Xiaoyu.

Sun Xin thought he had actually seen Chen Cheng, so after a moment's thought, she simply admitted it. "Fine... it's my college classmate, Chen Cheng."

Chu Xiaoyu felt like he'd been struck by a bolt from the blue; it really was a man.

"A college classmate can keep you from coming home all night?" Chu Xiaoyu took a step closer.

"You didn't reply to my green bubble messages, you didn't pick up the phone, and I waited at the entrance of the alley until the early morning."

"Even Old Zhang's commissary had its lights turned off."

"You said you were at a hotel chatting with a female classmate. I even wondered if you'd had too much to drink at a reunion and if you were feeling unwell, so I ran over early this morning to check on you."

"And as it turns out, you get out of a man's car."

"I was too tired, so I put my phone on silent," Sun Xin said in a flat tone. "I originally wanted to explain to you after I'd thought things through."

"Since you've seen it all."

"This is fine too; I won't have to rack my brain trying to figure out how to tell you without hurting you."

"Too tired? Afraid of hurting me?" Chu Xiaoyu's mouth twitched as he let out a sneer, his tone filled with self-deprecation.

He looked at Sun Xin with red eyes. "Was it too tiring being with him, or is it too tiring dealing with me?"

Sun Xin's fair face instantly turned bright red. She was about to say something, but Chu Xiaoyu interrupted her.

"Xin Xin, you never used to ignore my messages."

"You weren't like this before."

As he spoke, Chu Xiaoyu looked like he was about to burst into tears.

Seeing him in this dramatic state, Sun Xin felt a headache coming on. "Chu Xiaoyu, grow up. You know I don't have romantic feelings for you."

Chu Xiaoyu retorted sharply, "Then you have them for him?"

"You haven't seen each other for years, and the moment you meet, you go roll in the hay?"

"You..." Sun Xin was embarrassed by his words. After a two-second pause, she said, "Yes, that's right."

"I've liked him since eight years ago, and I'm very happy that he came specifically to see me."

"Eight years ago?" Chu Xiaoyu sneered. Fine, your buddy has been a backup for eight years.

He looked at Sun Xin with red eyes. "Then how do these twenty-plus years of mine count?"

“...”

Sun Xin felt a massive headache. She took a breath, and her voice softened slightly.

"I didn't mean to keep it from you intentionally; I just... hadn't figured out how to tell you yet."

"Stop making a scene, I have to go to work."

"Hadn't figured it out?" Chu Xiaoyu laughed. "Were you waiting for me to wait for you for a few more nights? Waiting until you two are appearing in public as a couple, inseparable, and waiting until you've introduced him to your parents before coming to tell me, 'Oh by the way, I have a boyfriend now,' is that it?"

As he spoke, Chu Xiaoyu pursed his lips and looked at Sun Xin with a face full of grief and indignation, shaking his head. "Sun Xin!"

"From today on, we go our separate ways. We're finished. Let's just act as if we don't know each other."

"Chu..." Before Sun Xin could say anything else, Chu Xiaoyu turned and left.

Sun Xin watched his resolute back and suddenly felt a sense of relief.

She shook her head and turned to walk toward the building's lobby.

Chu Xiaoyu's face was flushed as he walked toward the subway station, his pace gradually slowing.

In the end, he couldn't hold it back; tears poured from his eyes like a collapsing dam.

Those twenty years of affection, those nights of worry and anxiety—in the end, they were all carried away by the waves of heat in this summer air, leaving not a single trace behind.
