Find the clues and the mystery begins!
Zhao Dongchuan thought it over and over, feeling that writing poetry was still more convenient; writing a novel was too much trouble!
It had too many words, and he didn't have the time to write so much now.
With a plan in mind, he took out the small notebook where he had previously recorded poems and songs from his spatial storage.
He found a modern poem he really liked. Given the current situation, this poem would probably have to wait a bit longer to be published, but he could use it to fulfill his obligation for now.
That day, he routinely went to the village's information center at the entrance, listening to the old men tell stories.
The old men all liked to talk about things from the past, for example, an elderly man from Jinjiawan, a place not often mentioned, started talking about the era of the Baldy.
"They say that decades ago, when the White Army came, they even stayed in our house. It was an advance squad... They were stationed on Shenxian Mountain..."
"Later, the Japanese came and fought them... That battle was a hail of gunfire, blowing up half of Shenxian Mountain..."
Listening to the old man from Jinjiawan's account, Zhao Dongchuan's heart stirred. Shenxian Mountain... the White Army... the Japanese...
He felt like he was vaguely grasping something...
He quickly asked, "Was there a military unit stationed on Shenxian Mountain back then?"
"Yes, the White Army was stationed there, and later the Japanese Army was also stationed there... They were messing around on Shenxian Mountain for quite a long time!" the old man from Jinjiawan recalled.
"Then do you know where on Shenxian Mountain they were stationed?" Zhao Dongchuan asked.
"Young man, why are you asking about this...?" The old man looked at Zhao Dongchuan, puzzled.
However, he didn't press further. Instead, he thought for a moment, paused, and continued, "Let me think... ah, yes, on the west side of Shenxian Mountain, near the Kuyan River, halfway up the mountain... I don't remember the exact location, just that general area... I even found bullet casings there before..."
At this point, Zhao Dongchuan had a clue. This metal piece was very likely a map left by the Japanese Army or the Nationalist Army at that time, probably a military strongpoint. It was unlikely to be some treasure.
But since he had come this far, he naturally had to investigate.
After chatting for a while longer, and with no new discoveries, he bid farewell to everyone and went home. It was getting a bit late today, so he planned to go early tomorrow morning.
The next day, after greeting Shaoan and Xiulian whom he met on the road, he walked directly across the Dongla River, passed the Kuyan Bridge... and followed the Kuyan River towards Shenxian Mountain.
Soon, he arrived at the halfway point of Shenxian Mountain, on the west side near the Kuyan River.
This area was very large, and without a specific target, he wouldn't find anything.
He took out the metal piece and began to compare it with the map inside.
This time, with a clear direction, it was naturally different. He quickly found a faint outline based on the ravines on the map.
Zhao Dongchuan followed the map's markings and found a small hill. Beside this hill was a large tree, and it was this tree that ultimately helped him pinpoint the location.
"This should be roughly it..." Zhao Dongchuan muttered to himself.
Taking a shovel from his spatial storage, Zhao Dongchuan began to dig at the center of the hill.
It was the height of summer, and no one came to the mountain, so no one noticed him digging a pit there.
Relying on his exceptional physique, Zhao Dongchuan quickly dug a two-meter-deep pit. Just as he was about to try another spot, a metallic clanging sound rang out...
Zhao Dongchuan's heart leaped with joy. What was this... what had he dug up?
He quickly focused on that area and dug rapidly!
Before long, Zhao Dongchuan had uncovered a rough outline of the object!
It was a small metal door, just wide enough for two people to pass through at most.
Zhao Dongchuan continued to dig deeper, fully unearthing the metal door.
Putting the several broken shovels from his hands and the ground back into his spatial storage, Zhao Dongchuan, with an excited heart, prepared to open the metal door.
However, before opening the door, Zhao Dongchuan needed to conceal his work. He then gathered some dry grass, withered branches, and fallen leaves from around to roughly cover the excavated soil and the pit.
For now, he could only do some simple concealment. Fortunately, this location was quite remote, and people generally wouldn't come here.
After doing all this, Zhao Dongchuan took out a pair of white gloves from his spatial storage and put them on. He then lit a candle and took out a flashlight.
If he had a gas mask, he would have wanted to wear one, but unfortunately, he didn't have one. He could only wet a towel with water, tie it around the back of his head, and cover his mouth and nose.
After all these preparations were done, and feeling that there were no omissions, Zhao Dongchuan grasped the doorknob and slowly pulled with force. Uh, no reaction?
This door wouldn't be stuck, would it? Zhao Dongchuan was momentarily baffled. Then he twisted it... it moved!
It turned out he needed to twist it open... well, he felt foolish!
With a final twist, and then a slow pull, the metal door slowly opened!
Inside was a dark, stone-lined passage!
Having not seen sunlight for many years, it was full of dust. Zhao Dongchuan didn't immediately enter after opening the door. Instead, he placed the lit candle inside.
Watching the candle gradually extinguish, Zhao Dongchuan sat at the entrance and waited. After fifteen minutes, he lit the candle again and placed it inside. This time, the candle was burning normally.
Zhao Dongchuan poured some more water onto the towel covering his mouth and nose, turned on his flashlight, and walked in.
After entering, he propped a stone against the door to prevent it from accidentally closing on its own. He then walked slowly forward with his flashlight on.
The stone walls on both sides were very rough, indicating that the construction was likely rushed and not very meticulous.
After about a dozen steps, Zhao Dongchuan discovered a skeleton on the ground!
It was wearing a Japanese Army uniform, lying prostrate on the ground.
Judging by the style of the uniform, he guessed it was an officer, because he saw a samurai sword beside the clothing.
It was Zhao Dongchuan's first time seeing such a scene, and he felt a little unnerved.
He suppressed his inner discomfort and began to examine it.
A pistol, a samurai sword, and he also found a key.
Strangely, he didn't find any bullet wounds or other injuries on the skeleton. This was very odd. How did this person die?
With no other discoveries, Zhao Dongchuan didn't dwell on it. He slowly walked forward... After walking some distance, he found another heavy metal door ahead...
However, this heavy metal door required a key to open.
Looking at the key in his hand, Zhao Dongchuan inserted it directly, then twisted it. The lock opened, and then he slowly opened the door.
The space inside was enormous, clearly excavated, with many scattered boxes around. The walls were reinforced concrete.
Zhao Dongchuan estimated that this place was left behind during the Japanese invasion.
He looked around, found nothing unusual, and slowly approached a wooden box. He reached out and slowly opened it.
Looking at the contents inside, his pupils contracted.
